This Friday, Su Wan kept rembering the phone call from Jiang Zhiyan a couple of days ago, inviting her to et up.
That day was like any other, and at noon, she went with Fu Weiheng to their usual vegetarian restaurant for lunch. While ordering, she received a call from Jiang Zhiyan, asking her to have dinner and et that evening.
Su Wan glanced at Fu Weiheng across from her, worried that it might be too rushed, and suggested changing the eting to Saturday evening.
Jiang Zhiyan didn’t hesitate and agreed.
Once the call was over, she ntioned the eting to Fu Weiheng. Though slightly displeased, Fu Weiheng understood the relationship between her and Jiang Zhiyan and what they likely had to discuss, so he reluctantly accepted it.
So, on Saturday night, after work, Su Wan took the elevator down to the first floor. It wasn’t until she stepped out of the company building did she call Fu Weiheng—
"Neil, are you still busy?"
Fu Weiheng hadn’t slept well the night before and had been busy all day, so his voice sounded muffled: "Yeah, what’s up?"
Su Wan anticipated he might have forgotten about her eting with Jiang Zhiyan, so she reminded him: "Did you forget? I’m eting with Jiang... the lawyer today."
Fu Weiheng paused, raised his hand to look at his watch, and realized it was already ti to leave work. He pinched the bridge of his nose and said, "Wait for in the parking lot; I’ll drive you."
"No need." Su Wan quickly refused, "You didn’t sleep well after working late yesterday; I’ve ordered takeout for you. Just go ho and rest after you eat. I can go by myself."
Fu Weiheng was silent for a mont, then agreed: "Leave the violin in the security room, and I’ll bring it back for you; it’s too heavy to carry."
"Okay."
"Send the location." he said again.
Su Wan smiled and obliged: "Alright."
The location was a Cantonese restaurant in Henglong Square. Su Wan took the subway there without any hitches and arrived early, while Jiang Zhiyan hadn’t arrived yet.
She picked a seat by the window and only ordered a pot of tea to wait.
About ten minutes later, Jiang Zhiyan pushed the restaurant door open and walked in. His striking appearance caught the attention of several girls. Instinctively, Su Wan glanced toward the door. The man, wearing a long, dark green trench coat, looked tall and cool; however, his handso face appeared pale and sowhat worn out.
Jiang Zhiyan spotted her and walked over, sitting down in front of her. He couldn’t help but cover his mouth, coughing heavily twice before speaking: "Sorry to keep you waiting."
His raspy voice was heavily nasal, and Su Wan was startled: "Are you sick?"
Jiang Zhiyan coughed lowly twice more: "Just caught a cold, nothing serious."
Su Wan felt a bit guilty: "We could have rescheduled... if you’re not feeling well..."
Jiang Zhiyan curved his lips into a smile, looking her in the eyes: "I didn’t want to break another promise to you."
Su Wan was montarily speechless, recalling his words: Six years ago, when you called London, I was the one who answered... I’m sorry, I forgot to pass on your ssage.
The person before her had already raised his hand to summon the waiter and asked her, "What would you like to eat?"
Su Wan snapped back to reality: "Wonton noodles."
After placing the order and watching the waiter leave, Su Wan slowly said: "I don’t bla you..."
Jiang Zhiyan’s hand paused while reaching for the teacup; she continued, "And it wasn’t your fault..."
Even if her mother knew, given Old Sir Jiang’s temperant, he probably wouldn’t have let her co back so easily, would he?
After a while, Jiang Zhiyan laughed with relief, his brows and eyes notably handso: "Thank you."
"No, I should be the one thanking you." She smiled, "Thank you for what you did about the forum... Neil told ."
Jiang Zhiyan didn’t mind: "It’s what I should do." He said, sowhat ashad, "It’s also an attempt to redeem my image as your cousin in your heart..."
Su Wan remained silent, feeling a bit unaccustod.
Jiang Zhiyan naturally understood that adapting to the relationship between the two of them wouldn’t be easy, so he didn’t say much but realized a tricky issue. After hesitating, he finally said: "Wanwan... about my grandpa..."
Su Wan interrupted him: "I know."
