78 Was She That Scared?
Bai Qi stretched out his body once he had finished checking his report. When he looked up again, he was surprised to see that it was already late.
He shut down his laptop and decided to stop by the nurse’s station before he returned for a nap.
The corridor was dimly lit. Seeing that there was a figure standing in the middle of the corridor made him halt. It took him a while to realize that it was a patient.
He narrowed his eyes to get a closer look.’
Judging from her side profile, Bai Qi was sure that the person in front of him was soone he knew.
“Zhang Li Xue?”
The person turned to look at him.
When their gazes t, Bai Qi could notice a light lit up in the woman’s eyes. “Doctor Bai.”
“You... what are you doing here?” Bai Qi looked around and saw that they were not far away from her room. “Aren’t you supposed to be resting?” A thought ca to his mind and his brow furrowed. “Are you feeling uncomfortable?”

Zhang Li Xue giggled. “Doctor Bai, you’re asking too many questions. You sounded like my mother.”
Bai Qi pursed his lips. Zhang Li Xue’s smile was infectious. Soon, Bai Qi found that he was smiling as well.
“Well, I can’t sleep.” Zhang Li Xue touched her stomach. “I’m too hungry and I couldn’t find anything to eat. My mother is asleep and I didn’t want to wake her up. I thought that I could find so snack vending machine or sothing.”
“There’s no vending machine on this floor. If you want to get sothing, you have to go to the convenience store downstairs.”
Zhang Li Xue could not hide her disappointnt.
She did not want to go too far. Her mother would worry when she found that she has been missing.
But, she really could not fall asleep like this. She hadn’t eaten anything for lunch and then, she was taken to the hospital for surgery.
When she woke up, her mother offered her so food to eat. However, Zhang Li Xue was not hungry and she had let her mother finish the food instead. After talking to her mother for a while, she went back to sleep.
But a while ago, her empty stomach woke her up. Until she fills it up with food, she would not be able to sleep.
What was she supposed to do now?
Should she wake up her mother and tell her that she’s hungry.
“Are you... really hungry?” Bai Qi asked. He saw the disappointed look on her face and thought that this little fairy was too pitiful.
Zhang Li Xue nodded. She was so hungry that she could eat a whole chicken.
“Then, wait for a while,” Bai Qi said. “I think, I have sothing that you can eat in my office. It might not be that much, but it will help you to pad your tummy.”
Zhang Li Xu stared at the young doctor as if she was looking at her savior. She watched as Bai Qi turned around to leave and gasped. Her hand instinctively tugged at his sleeve to stop him.
“What’s wrong?” Bai Qi tilted his head to one side.
“That...” Zhang Li Xue looked around and cough. “Can I co with you?”
Bai Qi was surprised by her request.
Zhang Li Xue leaned over and spoke in a low voice. “How should I say this... The hospital seed like a scary place at night. Especially when you’re alone. I don’t want to wait here alone.”
Just now, she had thought that she had seen sothing.
Then, Bai Qi had called her na, scaring her. She was very close to screaming. Fortunately, she had seen his face and suddenly, her fear had dissipated. Seeing a familiar face made her feel at ease.
Bai Qi blinked a few tis. When he understood her aning, Bai Qi could not help but chuckle.
“Doctor Bai, don’t laugh at .”
“I’m not laughing at you.” Bai Qi bit his cheek to suppress his smile. His little fairy was too cute. It turned out that she was scared.
Zhang Li Xue narrowed her eyes. It seed that she did not believe his words.
“Then, let head over to the nurse’s station first,” Bai Qi spoke. “At least, your mother would not worry when she woke up and find that you were not around.”
“Oh.” Zhang Li Xue nodded.
“Wait here. The nurse’s station isn’t that far ahead.” Bai Qi pointed. Then, he turned around and walked over to the nurse station.
Zhang Li Xue took a step. Then, she stopped herself. From where she stood, she could see the young doctor standing in front of the desk as he spoke to one of the nurses.
She did not know what they were talking about, but Zhang Li Xue thought that the look on his face was too serious.
As if he could sense her gaze, Bai Qi turned around to look at her. Seeing that Zhang Li Xue was looking in his direction made him stunned.
Was she that scared?
After speaking a few more words with the nurse, Bai Qi finally turned around and walked over to the girl’s side. “I’ve spoken to the nurse,” Bai Qi said. “The nurse will let your mother know if she wakes up.
“Mhm... Thank you, Doctor Bai.”
A faint sigh escaped him.
These days, his little fairy would call him Doctor Bai. His heart ached a little bit. Bai Qi missed the ti when Zhang Li Xue would call him Brother Bai Qi. He wondered if he would be able to listen to those words again.
“Co on. Let’s go.”
Zhang Li Xue trailed after Bai Qi closely. As she walked, she could not help but look around. She had walked around this place a few tis when she ca to visit her Uncle Qi Zheng. However, this was the first ti that she had walked around in the middle of the night.
Surprisingly, the mood was very different.
After walking for a short distance, they finally arrived at Bai Qi’s office.
Bai Qi paused for a few seconds before he finally pushed the door open and stepped aside to let her in.
