183 He Rong’s Call
That night, the young doctor was unable to sleep well.
Bai Qi kept on recalling the way Zhang Li Xue had acted these past few days.
Her words and the way she looked at him made him anxious, but not in a bad way. Sothing in his stomach turned and the feeling was as exciting and scary as riding the roller coaster for the first ti.
In fact, Bai Qi realized that sothing had changed from the day that Zhang Li Xue appeared at the hospital to sending so stead buns to everyone who was working the night shift.
Bai Qi wanted to believe that Zhang Li Xue might give him hints that she liked him. However, he still did not dare to entertain such thoughts. His personality and low confidence did not allow him to have this dream.
In his mind, Zhang Li Xue was a fairy that he could only watch and protect. To be with her was sothing unattainable.
But he liked her so much. Even if it would be nearly impossible, Bai Qi thought that he still wanted to be given the chance to pursue her.
That feeling was sothing that he could not eliminate, no matter how much his brain tried to reason with him.
The young doctor continued to think about the girl almost all night. When he woke up in the morning, Bai Qi was still trying to determine real life and fantasy. Moreover, the black rim under his eyes seed to worsen.
.....
Bai Xi Xi stared at her brother with worry. “Brother Bai Qi, you’re turning into a panda. Did you have trouble sleeping?”
Bai Qi sighed. “I was reading so docunts last night,” he lied. “I did not notice that it was too late.”
The frown on Bai Xi Xi’s face deepened. “Brother Bai Qi, you can’t do this. You need to look after your health properly. Otherwise, I would worry.”
A faint smile curled on his lips. “Un. I know. I will rember to rest a lot more so that Xi Xi will not have to worry.” He gestured to the food on the table and spoke, “Quickly eat your breakfast. I will send you over to your school.”
Bai Xi Xi’s eyes lit up. Then, she picked up her chopsticks and began to eat her food slowly. It was a rare chance for her to have her brother send her over to her school.
After sending his little sister to school, Bai Qi went straight to the hospital.
He went to his ntor’s office to discuss a few things. However, before he could utter a word, Qi Zheng had spoken first.
“Bai Qi, why do you look as if you did’t have enough sleep?” Qi Zheng asked. “Wait. If I rember correctly, you were not on the night shift yesterday. Were you bullied again?”
“No.” Bai Qi coughed. “Doctor Qi... I just had sothing in my mind and was unable to fall asleep.”
And this matter had sothing to do with your niece.
But of course, Bai Qi only dared to say those words in his mind. He did not want Doctor Qi to know that he was close with Zhang Li Xue.
Qi Zheng stared at the young man in front of him. “If you ran into a problem, you have to rember to tell .”
His lips tilted up into a warm smile. “Un. I know.”
Qi Zheng waved his hand. Then, the two of them started to discuss Bai Qi’s paperwork.
Later, Bai Qi was busy with his work that he did not have ti to think of anything else.
During lunch hours, the others went to the cafeteria to have their al, but Bai Qi continued to stay in his office to do his work.
There was a knock on his door and Nurse Tian peeked into his room.
“Doctor Bai, I’m going to the cafeteria,” the elder nurse spoke. “Do you want to join and the others or would you like to order a takeaway for you?”
Bai Qi glanced at the scattered paperwork on his table. “Nurse Tian, please help to order a takeaway for .”
“Alright.” After exchanging a few more words, Nurse Tian left.
However, Bai Qi finally realized that he seed to have forgotten about sothing.
Last night, didn’t Zhang Li Xue tell him that she would co to the hospital and accompany him for dinner?
How could he forget?
As the thought ca to his mind, Bai Qi reached for his phone and texted Zhang Li Xue to confirm.
The girl’s reply ca over a few seconds later. “Un. I will co over and find you after work. Bai Qi, what would you like to eat?”
Bai Qi stared at her ssage for a long ti. He still thought that he was dreaming.
His little fairy would co to the hospital just to accompany him for dinner...
As he was still staring at his phone with a dazed expression, the phone in his hand chid, surprising him. Bai Qi almost dropped the phone on the ground. Fortunately, he was quick enough to react.
His heart raced, thinking that it was his little fairy who called.
However, when he saw the na on the screen, Bai Qi could not help but sigh in disappointnt.
He picked up the phone call and pressed it to his ear. “Hello.”
“Bai Qi, it’s . He Rong,” the man identified himself. “Is this a bad ti?”
Bai Qi cleared his throat as he wonder if the disappointnt in his tone was too apparent. “No. I’m currently on a break.”
“That’s good,” He Rong spoke. “It has been a few months since you moved over to Y City. How was it? Is everything alright?”
The two friends chatted briefly before He Rong finally spoke about the reason he called.
“That’s right. I just wanted to let you know that my wife and I will be heading to Y City at the end of this month.”
Bai Qi smiled. “Planning to continue your honeymoon?”
“My wife wanted to visit her best friend and her family,” He Rong said. “That’s right. Do you rember that woman you helped during our wedding? That’s her. Zhang Li Xue.”
“Un. I rember.”
Bai Qi had never told his friend that he knew Zhang Li Xue from kindergarten. If He Rong knew that he was still in contact with her, how would he react?
“Moreover... I wanted to look for you to discuss sothing,” He Rong said. His tone turned serious.
“What’s up?”
“You rember the first ti we t in S Country?” He Rong said. “You invested so money into my company.”
Of course, Bai Qi rembered the day well. He was listening to He Rong’s speech and decided to spend a little money he have in hand and invested them in He Rong’s company.
“Recently, the company made so money. As the investor, of course, you will get so profit,” He Rong said.
He Rong reported the amount of money that Bai Qi would receive.
The mont Bai Qi heard the number, he was unable to react.
