Luke walked over to check, and it was indeed Helson he was looking for.

Paradics rushed over to administer aid, but after a quick check, they shook their heads and said, "There are no longer any signs of life."

Luke nodded and had soone notify the forensic doctor and the technical team.

The rescue scene had also beco a cri scene.

After the firefighters had placed Helson down, they re-entered the house, turned off the natural gas valve, and opened all the windows.

At that ti, the natural gas concentration inside the house was very high, and the police still couldn't enter the scene.

Luke walked over to examine Helson's condition. His body had no obvious injuries, he slled strongly of alcohol, and he was dressed in ho clothes.

According to the firefighters, the natural gas valve and the stove valve had both been turned up to the maximum. Luke didn't believe this was an accident.

Suicide?

Or murder?

There was too little evidence now to make a judgnt.

The technical team and the forensic doctor gradually arrived at the scene.

Because the natural gas in the house had not yet completely dissipated, the technical team began their investigation in the yard, considering safety issues.

Forensic doctor Hila examined Helson's body, and the preliminary autopsy was completed faster than expected.

Hila said, "The physical condition of the deceased is consistent with natural gas poisoning features, with no signs of being bound and no defensive wounds found. The ti of death should be between ten and ten thirty at night.

There's a strong alcohol odor on and in the mouth of the deceased. We will asure the alcohol concentration in his blood once we're back at the police station." After speaking, Hila pondered,

"I... I think I've seen him before."

"You have indeed seen him; he was the husband of the headless female corpse we found at noon today. He was also at the scene then."

"No wonder. Although I've handled many bodies, this kind of situation is quite rare."

"We didn't expect it either," Luke sighed softly. He had taken a statent from Helson that morning, and the man's emotions had seed normal. Luke had not expected that twelve hours later, he would be dead.

"Can you determine whether it is suicide or homicide?"

"I can ascertain that he died from natural gas poisoning, but as for whether it's accidental leakage or sothing deliberate, that's for you to investigate."

Luke nodded, and just as he was about to say sothing, Mary from the technical team ca over, "Captain Luke, Dr. Hila, you'd better co take a look."

Luke asked, "Did you find sothing?"

"We dug up so things in the backyard of the deceased's ho that you might be interested in."

Mary led the two to the backyard, where a pit had been dug in the open space. Inside the pit was a tool box. When opened, it contained a reddish-brown saw with many of its teeth broken off.

Forensic doctor Hila went over to examine it, "These are traces of dried blood. The shape of the saw teeth resembles the cuts on the two headless female corpses. It's very likely the murder weapon used in the headless female corpses case. I suggest we do a DNA comparison."

"Let's do as you say," Luke stood up, glancing over the entire backyard, "Mary, the heads of the two headless female corpses haven't been found. Could they also be buried sowhere in this yard?"

"We'll search carefully."

"Thank you," Luke replied.

After being promoted to captain, Luke was not only responsible for investigating cases but also for communicating with other departnts.

Subsequently, Luke found the fire crew to confirm the concentration of natural gas in the house, learning that it had dissipated enough to no longer pose a risk to human health.

Luke led his team into the house to examine the scene.

In addition to Luke and Jackson, the deputy team leader, Raymond, Blackie, and Jenny also arrived on the scene.

Besides the mbers of Squad One, there were also people from the technical team and a firefighter.

This firefighter was a young, strong black man, even larger than Luke, and he was the one who had carried Helson out of the house.

Luke needed him to identify Helson's position and posture at the ti to reconstruct the cri scene as accurately as possible.

The firefighter led Luke and the others to the living room, pointing to the couch next to the coffee table, "I found him right here. He was sitting on the sofa, leaning his head back.

The concentration of natural gas was very high at the ti, and an explosion could have happened at any mont. Without ti to think, I carried him out imdiately."

"You did the right thing," the deputy team leader patted his shoulder, then added, "Of course, it would have been even better if you had taken a picture."

The firefighter shook his head, "No, we didn't have the ti for that. If soone had seen it, I definitely would have gotten into trouble."

"I was just joking, don't take it to heart," the deputy team leader said, pointing to another sofa, "Jackson, have a seat."

Then to the firefighter, "Help him pose."

"Marcus, you take the pictures.

Captain, I assu my arrangent is fine?"

Luke smiled, knowing the old man's habits were flaring up again, and didn't argue, "Couldn't be better."

Jackson played the role of the model, the firefighter was the instructor, and Blackie took the photographs, quickly producing a simulated photo of the deceased's sitting position.

Blackie sent the photo to the group.

Luke opened it to take a look, "Not bad."

"I've been taking pictures of Julian often lately. We want to docunt her entire pregnancy. Her belly is growing day by day. It will an a lot after the child is born," Blackie said with a smile.

"Oh my god, are you still the Marcus I know?" the deputy team leader exclaid with an exaggerated expression.

Blackie pursed his lips, "Sorry, Julian doesn't want to get too close to you."

"Why, does she think I sll old? Be careful, or I'll accuse you of discrimination."

"No, it's just that your past experiences worry Julian. She's afraid I'll pick up bad habits from you."

The deputy team leader responded with a rude gesture.

Luke clapped his hands, "Guys, now's not the ti for chatting, let's get to work first."

Everyone started to search the house separately.

Luke, looking at the simulation photo, surveyed the area around the sofa. The coffee table had an empty wine bottle and a bottle of whiskey on it, plus a whiskey glass that was still halfway full—no snacks to go with the drinks.

Luke also found a pen next to the coffee table, capless, as if it had been used.

He looked around again and found a crumpled paper in the trash can nearby. He put on gloves, took several pictures, then unwrapped the paper.

"Gelina was killed by , I hated her.

But after killing her... I felt very guilty.

I'm sorry, I was wrong!"
