David casually scratched his head, "You're right, that's what a tough guy does."
"Haha..."
They both laughed.
As David ate his steak, he asked, "Buddy, besides shooting practice, what else did you want to see for today?"
"I'm not in a rush, why are you?"
"Co on, you're doing so well now, not only the rising star of the police force but also an investigative consultant for the FBI. I want to ride your coattails a bit."
Luke was a bit surprised, "That doesn't sound like sothing tough guy David would say."
"What else should I be like, the deputy team leader? Deputy, deputy, deputy...
I'm just saying this to you.
If you tell anyone else, I won't admit it."
"You're not happy in the Anti-Gang and Narcotics Division?"
"Not really, it's just... I sotis miss the days in the Robbery and Murder Departnt, always feel like sothing's missing...
Like the deputy team leader, I used to not like that stubborn old man, but now I think of him often."
Luke raised his glass and clinked it with his, "We're all at the Detective Bureau, not far from each other. When there's a chance to make a contribution, I'll call you." Luke took a sip of wine and continued, "I wanted to see you today to discuss sothing."
"*Creak*..." David clenched his fists and guessed, "Did so gang's punk annoy you again?"
Luke briefly explained the situation.
David asked, "You want to help the Zhang brothers? That doesn't seem like your style. You usually don't ddle."
"If there's no benefit, I wouldn't ddle, for sure.
Since they need sothing from us, it's not difficult for us either, and we can earn so extra cash."
"How much are they offering us to settle this?" David slightly frowned, glanced around, and in a voice only the two could hear, said,
"Will this money bring trouble? Can we trust the Zhang brothers?"
"He only promised a generous reward, didn't say how much, and even if he paid, I wouldn't take it."
"Then what do you want?"
"We can invest in their construction company. The two brothers run it, and we provide protection. Everyone makes money together."
David was a bit concerned, "I don't really understand the construction business. Are you sure we won't lose money? And I don't have much to invest."
"The investnt is just symbolic, won't be much. Even if you don't have it, I can cover for you first, and you can pay back after dividends."
David understood, "Will the brothers agree to this?"
"I wanted to discuss it with you first, then talk to them.
If you don't want to do it, I'll just refuse them.
Besides, they ca to us for help. If they find my terms unreasonable, they can refuse.
We can't take risks just to help them."
David nodded, the Zhang brothers' generous reward was likely a sum of money.
He didn't want to directly ntion such undefined money either.
Taxes are a hassle too.
The best way is like Luke said.
Everyone goes into business together, and David and Luke have a stake in the construction company. If those gang mbers co looking for trouble again, it would be damaging David and Luke's interests, so they would have a legitimate reason to deal with them.
As the Deputy Team Leader of the Anti-Gang and Narcotics Division, David's main duty is to combat gangs. As long as he reveals his identity, he wouldn't even need to act; those guys would be gone as fast as they can, definitely not daring to cause trouble at the construction company.
So the matter with the Zhang brothers wasn't really a problem for David.
If it's truly like Luke said, and the Zhang brothers are willing to let them invest in the company at a low price, it ans having long-term dividend earnings, much more worthwhile than taking a one-ti paynt.
David was inevitably a bit tempted and also a bit skeptical, would the Zhang brothers agree?
