After lunch, Hobert held a eting with his three subordinates.
The team's current tasks are primarily to sort through the incoming mail. Jessica is mainly responsible for reading and replying to letters from newspapers and magazines, and for creating an interview schedule, inviting reporters to co in for interviews soon.
Rasga and Dico are to sort through consultation and commission letters. Rasga and Dico can reply to consultation letters at their discretion, but commission letters must be approved by Hobert before a reply is sent to accept the commission.
At the end of the eting, Hobert announced that he would treat everyone to dinner that evening to celebrate the team's formation.
After arranging the work, Hobert returned to his office and wrote a reply to Ikanser. While writing, Hobert suddenly rembered Ulysses's instructions, so he wrote a letter to Elizabeth as well.
In the letter, Hobert shared so 'tough love,' telling Elizabeth that death happens every day and that she should not only dwell on sadness and awe of life but also look forward.
After finishing, Hobert gave both letters to Jessica and instructed her to mail them that afternoon.
Then, Hobert put on his trench coat, picked up his cane, and went to 'visit clients'.
He first walked back to his rented apartnt and left notes for Xio and Fors, telling them that he wouldn't be ho for dinner.
Only then did Hobert take a hired carriage to the 'Obsidian Bar' in the North Borough.
He arrived more than ten minutes early, but Loretta was already sitting at the bar, having ordered a beer but not taken a sip.
"You're here so early?" Hobert placed his cane and also ordered a beer.
"I just happened to be free today, so I ca early." Loretta took out an envelope: "This is your salary for last week. We pay salaries every Saturday afternoon. You can either pick it up directly at Blackthorn Security Company, or we can mail it to you, but you'll need to submit a written request for that."
Hobert naturally chose to have it mailed. He imdiately took out paper and pen, wrote a request, and asked Loretta to submit it for him.
The format and wording of the official docunt were fairly standard. Loretta glanced at it and put the request away.
Hobert asked, "Is there sothing else you wanted to see about today?"
This was the first ti a mber of the Nighthawks team had proactively contacted Hobert.
"It's just to give you your salary, and you're already two days late in receiving it."
"Just to give my salary?"
"Just to give you your salary."
Hobert recalled his previous encounters with Loretta. This woman seed obsessed with paying salaries. Had the Nighthawks team been known to delay salaries?
That couldn't be, right? If an official Beyonder organization had a financial crisis, it wouldn't be far from disbanding.
"Okay, that's definitely a big deal." Hobert casually agreed and then asked, "I previously reported a 'Secret Supplicant' nad Cate. How far has your investigation progressed?"
He added, "Ms. Daly promised to inform of the investigation results at the ti."
"We've already found the Hyman you ntioned." Loretta looked around to make sure there were no custors nearby before saying, "He seems to be in contact with two other Aurora Order mbers. We plan to launch the operation this week or next week."
"Oh, right, the captain said that you might have to participate in the operation as well. Prepare yourself these next two days. Well, that's one of the reasons I contacted you today!"
That's the more important reason for the eting, isn't it! Hobert couldn't help but complain in his heart: Did the Nighthawks really owe you salary?
Hobert took a deep breath to calm himself and nodded, "I will never be soft on these lunatics. You can write to or directly notify when the operation ti is set."
"No problem."
On the way back to the law firm, Hobert realized that Loretta might be wearing so kind of mystical item that made her so focused on 'salary'.
The more Hobert thought about it, the more he felt it was the case. Otherwise, wouldn't the Nighthawks team be afraid of Loretta's debt collection? How could they dare to have a mber who was so focused on salary?
Back at the firm, as Hobert was hanging up his trench coat, Jessica ca to Hobert's office: "Lawyer Hobert, I've read all the letters from newspapers and magazines and drafted an interview schedule."
"Take a look and if it's okay, I'll write back according to this schedule."
That's fast!
Hobert took the schedule and glanced at it: "No problem."
Jessica said a little embarrassed: "Lawyer Hobert, um, do you, do you have any extra tickets?"
Hobert was stunned for a mont before realizing that Jessica was talking about tickets to the "Roselle morial Exhibition."
Jessica continued stuttering: "Um, I have a friend who admires Roselle very much, but, but we don't have a way to get VIP tickets for a close-up visit, so..."
During the eting in the afternoon, Jessica saw Hobert take away a stack of VIP tickets while sorting the letters. At that ti, because there were two other colleagues present, she was embarrassed to ask.
She hesitated for a long ti this afternoon, always feeling that it was not good to make such a request on the first day of work, but thinking of her friend's happy smile, she decided to ask for a ticket for her friend.
"Yes." Hobert generously gave out two tickets: "These tickets are the Church of Steam and Machinery's gratitude to ."
Jessica thanked him repeatedly, her face filled with joy.
Back at her desk, Hobert handled official business for more than an hour, and then it was ti to get off work.
Hobert's team had dinner together at a nearby restaurant. This dinner brought everyone closer together.
However, Hobert had just received his salary in the afternoon and spent 3 pounds and 3 soli, half a week's salary was gone. Now Hobert suddenly understood why Loretta valued salary so much, and valued payday so much.
If you spend a week's salary in two days, then the remaining 5 days, payday would be like looking forward to the stars and the moon!
...
Wednesday, the opening day of the "Roselle morial Exhibition." Hobert is now the head of the departnt, and he doesn't need to ask for leave or go to the firm to go out and "visit clients."
Arriving at the exhibition hall, the queue was already packed with people. Hobert really didn't expect that Roselle had been dead for more than a hundred years, but he still had such a great appeal.
But then he thought that entertainnt was scarce in this era, so such a morial exhibition was very popular among all classes.
Because Hobert had VIP tickets, he could avoid queuing and enter directly from the side door, and he could visit the things Roselle had used up close.
As soon as he entered the door, Hobert saw a mber of the "Machinery Hivemind" who had once protected him. He knew that the other party must be very busy today, so he just smiled and nodded to the other party without going up to talk.
Entering the exhibition hall, as a person from the Modern Era, Hobert was not very interested in these things, he only praised Roselle's golden toilet as really luxurious, and wondered if you could really poop on such a toilet?
Hobert tried to make his speed look normal as he ca to the study area. He had just glanced at the tall bookshelves in the study when he saw Jessica and the silver-haired woman in front of the bookshelves.
At the sa ti, Jessica also saw Hobert, she quickly waved her hand and said: "Lawyer Hobert, I'm not skipping work, I took a leave of absence."
Hobert smiled: "I'm not skipping work either."
Jessica was stunned for a mont, as if she understood sothing.
