Wisps of black smoke spiraled up from where the object t his palm. The smoke carried a thick stench of engine oil, a foul odor that even the sweet fragrance of the burning candles couldn't mask.
The conference hall fell silent for a mont at Jenkins's arrival, but the buzz of discussion soon resud, as though his entrance was nothing more than a trivial interruption.

Miss Strass approached with her team, producing a container to secure the replica [chanical Heart]. mbers of the Church of Creation and Machinery, likely mistaking it for the long-lost Bestowal, began to gather around as well.
As for the chanical body created by the Difference Engine, it was swiftly dismantled, consequences be damned, and sent out of Nolan for study. The materials were incredibly valuable, but no one could be certain if its internal chanisms were still active. With safety as the top priority, leaving it here was simply not an option.
"I knew you could do it. Papa Oliver was worried sick for quite a while."
Miss Bevanna smiled at Jenkins, watching as the gold and silver light shimring around him slowly faded. To her surprise, however, she noticed a faint purple glimr still lingering in his eyes.
Jenkins scanned the room, then patted the cat on his shoulder to keep it from fidgeting:
"Where's Papa Oliver?"
"He said he wouldn't be attending."
"Oh? Why not?"
"He said that as just an antique shop owner, he has neither the responsibility nor the right to attend these negotiations."
"Is he joking?"
"I tried to persuade him, but he was adamant. He's in the church library reading right now."
