The 6th District.
After finishing a day’s work, Dixie returned to his room.
He was a bachelor and didn’t have a wife; he used his entire salary on himself, living quite comfortably in a large three-bedroom apartnt. If the weather was nice, he could bask in two to three hours of sunlight every day.
At this mont, as he opened the door, he saw a letter lying quietly on the grey-yellow carpet, which seed to have been slipped through the crack beneath the door.
Dixie’s expression changed; he closed the door securely, picked up the letter, sat down at his desk, and used a small knife to open the envelope and pull out the paper inside.
On the white paper were various numbers and symbols.
It was a ciphered letter!
His expression turned even graver. He checked his surroundings and set up a few more protective asures before he took a book from the shelf to begin decrypting the letter.
Slowly, pieces of information and intelligence about ngde erged.
At the end, there was a mission.
’Assassinate ngde, stop this person from entering the parliant?’
Dixie took a deep breath, knowing this directive ca from a high-ranking personage.
The other party had never t with him face to face, and the ciphered letter didn’t prove anything.
"Chaos is a ladder!"
In this mont, this seemingly kind-hearted man felt both trepidation at being drawn into the political whirlwind and a touch of excitent.
A man always has a hobby.
He wasn’t much interested in won or money but had an unimaginable passion for power.
The secret ssage also contained a hint.
Just eliminate ngde, and he would be the next Special Ability Minister!
’I can’t panic. There’s still so ti. I need to investigate and prepare.’
Dixie muttered to himself.
He burnt the ciphered letter imdiately, pretending nothing had happened. He made dinner for himself and then washed up before going to bed.
A sudden feeling of bewildernt struck him.
Dixie saw the firearm in his hands, and ngde lying in a pool of blood.
"Is this... my dream? An unusual power has invaded this place!"
He didn’t panic but instead let out a cold laugh.
In the dream, he had clearly regained his true nature, and the reason Morey Pavilion was so confident in shooting him was because his abilities leaned towards the ntal, leaving him with weak physical defenses. However, in the dream world, he held certain advantages!
"Not a monster, but soone influencing my dreams, a Demon Hunter?"
"There are not many Demon Hunters with dream powers, and in Sky City, there are even fewer..."
Dixie analyzed everything with calm: "I think I’ve guessed who it is."
"Indeed it’s you, Dixie," said Zhong Shenxiu, clapping his hands as he erged from the shadows of the street, sighing, "Having a singular ability is so troubleso."
He did not strike at those high-level ordinaries for this reason.
The other’s dream had certain defenses that might not seem significant to him, but as soon as he acted, it would undoubtedly leave traces, traces of dream powers!
Once discovered and an investigation launched, there would not be many suspects in the entire Sky City.
And as soone who had just joined, he would undoubtedly be the most obvious target!
"So it is you, Li Wei Mojito! The security level of my room is very high; you can’t infiltrate directly, so you ca through the dream?"
Dixie was not scared, instead, he had a confidence: "My dream is my ho field... for a Demon Hunter who leans towards ntal powers like you, wanting to kill in a dream, you’re still too weak. Tell ... why co after ?"
He had an intuition that there was a deeper story behind this and wanted to probe for so clues.
After all, receiving an assassination mission and being attacked the sa night was too coincidental, so much so that it was nearly unbelievable!
If the opponent was only Li Wei, he was certain that the latter was finished.
Dream abilities could be strange, but for soone like him, realizing he was dreaming, on top of being ntally adept, and in his own territory, there really was nothing to fear from the opponent.
"When tomorrow cos, I’ll just report this, do you know what consequences you’ll face? Not just you, your captain Zola and ngde who vouched for you, both will be dragged down by you! Haha... I have to thank you."
Dixie was sowhat excited.
If things had progressed to that point, perhaps there was no need to assassinate ngde, as this event alone could have blocked his promotion!
How incredibly lucky.
"Solving you is easy, even if I only had dream powers..."
Zhong Shenxiu shook his head, "In the dream, you finally stopped pretending... Your current appearance is truly disgusting."
As he spoke, a broken door materialized behind him.
This colossal bronze door was incomplete and looked severely damaged, with colorful rays of light leaking from its crevices.
Dixie’s gaze fixed on these lights, and he turned vacant in an instant.
He saw deep within those vivid colors, a giant eye veined with blood.
Gorosa’s Eye!
Shenxiu’s dream could withstand such a level of contamination, but that did not an any Demon Hunter of the retainer level could.
At that mont, Dixie’s spirit was contaminated; he cried out in agony, his body twisted and contorted as if filled with countless writhing creatures.
...
The real world.
"Ah!"
A scream completely shattered the night’s quiet.
Without a doubt, a compromised spirit would lead to the body’s loss of control.
Dixie’s spirit was twisted, contaminated, and transford into a monster.
This was the sorrow of a Demon Hunter, and their most dreaded fear!
Boom!
A window shattered, and a massive lump of flesh fell to the ground, flailing its tentacles, seeking any living being around.
In the darkness, a whistle blew, summoning a swarm of Demon Hunters who rushed to the scene, with the silhouettes of chas looming not far...
Zhong Shenxiu watched all of this unfold, nodding to himself as his figure beca ethereal and transparent, vanishing from sight.
The contamination of Gorosa’s Eye would completely obscure the traces of his manipulation in the dream.
And Dixie, who had lost control and turned into a monster, naturally could not reveal the identity of the assailant.
Everything was perfect, except that the local residents might endure a terrifying night.
...
The next day.
Training grounds.
"I heard sothing big happened in District 6, kept up all night."
Li Wei Mojito had returned from his leave and entered the training grounds, hearing his teammate Green discussing an incident.
"What happened?"
Mojito asked casually.
He had not been defeated by his previous setback and was prepared to procure weapons through other ans, continuing his plans against Dixie.
This was a righteous assassination!
"I heard a Demon Hunter lost control..."
Green’s voice trailed off a bit, perhaps mindful that Mojito was also a Demon Hunter.
"That’s unfortunate..."
Mojito replied offhandedly, then recalled mories from his past life, but the four years were too long, and he had no specific recollection.
’Maybe it was too small-scale to cause much impact; not a significant event.’
As he scoffed silently, Green’s voice reached his ears:
"I heard... it was a Demon Hunter of the retainer level, so it caused quite a commotion... His na was Dixie, the head of the Special Ability Departnt..."
"Impossible..."
Mojito felt a chill down his spine, losing all control over his future, as if he had plunged into an unfathomable abyss...
