Unbeknownst to when,
Byron City saw its first snow of the winter.
On a night mixed with wind and snow, the only source of warmth, aside from family and the fireplace, was alcohol.
Whisperer Bar.
Lately, the business seed to have picked up quite a bit.
Perched on a high stool at the bar, Angel idly sipped a tequila, bored, and asked Smith, "Why isn’t your boss here yet?"
Ever since that damn woman gave him that ragged book, she had not seen the owner of the Whisperer Bar, the young and handso bartender Li Wei, for a long ti.
This also ant she hadn’t been able to drink those colorful, creative cocktails for a while.
The young girl’s heart was full of resentnt.
"Sorry... after all, he’s the boss. He doesn’t co if he doesn’t want to."
Smith shrugged his shoulders, pulling an apologetic face.
In fact, he knew the boss was always there but would hide in his room every day, endlessly researching sothing. He was specifically instructed to wait for Ms. Zhu Li to arrive before notifying him.
And Ms. Zhu Li seed to have known about this situation and hadn’t shown her face for over half a month.
While he was pondering, a pleasant scent of perfu wafted over, causing Smith to take a deep breath unconsciously.
By the ti he ca back to his senses, a seductive woman had already lazily leaned against the edge of the bar.
"Ms. Zhu Li..."
Smith’s face turned slightly red.
"Give a glass of wine. Li Wei isn’t here?" Julie scanned the place with a slight smile on her face as she asked.
"The boss has been in the office. He instructed that as soon as you arrived, to please have you go to the office to see him."
Smith gestured invitingly.
"Hehe..." Julie nodded politely, agreeing to go along, and followed him toward the entrance to the second basent level.
"I always feel... that there’s so secret between these two..."
Angel watched Julie’s retreating figure and voiced her suspicion to Alice.
"A secret between a man and a woman signifies so kind of romantic developnt..." Alice said suggestively, looking at Angel who bristled like a startled kitten, and then consoled, "Alright, maybe they just want to discuss the art of mixology... Also, did you know that the gang scene in Byron City has been restless lately? It seems sothing has happened within the Notting Hill family..."
"That’s so cool! How did you know?" Angel unwittingly retorted.
"Of course, I heard it from these drinkers... with enough alcohol in them, they’ll sell everything they know."
Alice winked.
...
Julie walked with a feline grace to the second basent level.
She watched Smith co to an office door and knock, "Boss?"
"Get lost! Didn’t I say... no one is to disturb ?"
A gruff voice suddenly sounded from inside.
Smith was startled but still said, "Per your instructions, Ms. Zhu Li is here..."
"Julie? Let her in... Don’t you co in, we’re having a private conversation."
After a while, Zhong Shenxiu’s voice ca from inside.
Although he found it rather strange, Smith still dutifully opened the door, invited Ms. Julie in, and then promptly shut the door tight and left the area.
Julie entered the office and imdiately frowned.
She saw various drafts scattered on the floor, along with shattered glassware, the solutions mingling with the alcohol, emitting a complex and unpleasant odor.
And behind the office desk, Li Wei’s eyes were filled with blood vessels, fixedly staring at a black notebook opened on the table, his expression distorted, constantly mumbling sothing.
In fact, if Smith had seen this scene, he would have been very surprised.
Because when he was here earlier, the office and the boss both seed quite normal.
This evidently was a scene specially arranged by Zhong Shenxiu, knowing of Julie’s arrival.
"It shouldn’t be like this..."
He grabbed his hair with both hands, behaving like a defeated dog, yet akin to an eager, mad scientist, "Why did I fail?"
"Because you’re still lingering outside the great door, though talented, failure is but the norm..."
Julie chuckled softly, stepping around the various rubbish, and elegantly sat opposite Zhong Shenxiu, "I originally thought... it would take you a month to think of ..."
Although it was a bit earlier than expected, it seed that everything was under control.
She gracefully revealed her confidence and mystique.
"Great door? What door?"
Zhong Shenxiu lifted his head, showing a bewildered look.
"Do you know... beneath the calm of the mundane world, there’s a hidden, mysterious, and extraordinary world?"
Julie’s voice dropped low, seductive secrets spilling from her red lips, "There are a group of people, or perhaps called extraordinary individuals, mystics... with magical powers, capable of manipulating flas, changing forms and shadows, and even brewing various potions and wines with magical effects... And the notebook in your hands, it cos from one such extraordinary individual, he is also a master mixologist!"
"I believe... from this notebook, I have faintly touched that power, but I cannot grasp it..."
Zhong Shenxiu looked at Julie with both frustration and hope, "So..."
"It’s obvious, I am one too!"
Julie nodded with a smile, her eyes montarily deepening.
Zhong Shenxiu suddenly felt a wave of spiritual pressure imposed upon him.
This pressure, for him, was akin to an added thread of spider silk, almost imperceptible if not paying attention.
’Mmm, having drunk the cold blood of Scarface, he is fully capable of withstanding it, and could even turn her into a sieve...’
He muttered to himself, then collapsed onto the table gasping for breath as if suddenly burdened with an extra hundred pounds.
"Even the most novice of the extraordinary can skillfully wield their Spirit’s power. What I just demonstrated to you was not so naless art; it was rely using my Spirit to add a weight to your soul... In front of us, all ordinary people are re ants!"
Julie proclaid with pride.
At the door of Whisperer Bar, the doorman Scarface suddenly sneezed, bracing against the howling cold wind, helplessly taking a gulp of strong liquor...
Contrary to Julie’s expectations, Li Wei seed to accept it quite quickly.
He leaned back in his chair, lost in thought for a mont, then suddenly asked, "What’s your purpose for giving this notebook?"
"You are a talented individual, born with the makings of an extraordinary, even exuding Spirit from your body. You rely lack a guide, soone to teach you how to use it..."
Julie smiled gently, "I am willing to be your guide, to lead you into this mysterious world!"
"And the cost? You must have a reason for helping like this?"
Zhong Shenxiu abruptly asked.
"Of course, but it will cause you no harm..." Julie said, "Each extraordinary path is different. I wish to cultivate a doctor skilled in blending blood wine, of great use to us! You need not look for it, blood wine is a unique Spirit potion only extraordinary individuals can blend, and it’s not in this notebook... Now, tell your answer."
