Faced with Harrison’s question, Bruce froze for a second before he realized what he ant.
Unfortunately, Bruce didn’t know where the backup power system was located.
"Does anyone here know where the backup—"
Before Bruce could even finish his sentence, the entire White House was plunged into darkness.
With a single playing card, Zhang Yang had sliced clean through a power cable as thick as a man’s wrist.
"OK! Now it’s my stage!"
With both the power and surveillance systems down, Zhang Yang raised his hand and fired a rope upward, then swung through a window onto the second floor of the palace.
At that mont, Bruce and Harrison were still searching the first floor. Zhang Yang couldn’t see them, but he could track their positions by the sound of their footsteps.
Harrison made a firm judgnt.
"Kaitō Kid should be inside the palace now. Don’t overlook a single corner—search everything!"
Bruce passed that command down word for word. Every single one of Harrison’s calls had been right so far.
Bruce was relieved he hadn’t picked the wrong man—Harrison really was the one who understood Kaitō Kid best.
Unfortunately, he hadn’t familiarized himself enough with the layout of the White House, which had led to their current disadvantage.
FBI agents switched on night vision goggles and began a full sweep of the building.
While they were scouring the first floor, Zhang Yang was already combing through the second.
The scanning function of his monocle moved quickly across each object, but so far, the Jade Mountain hadn’t turned up.
"Could it be on the first floor?"
Just as Zhang Yang muttered to himself, his reaching hand suddenly paused.
The door in front of him was locked.
So far, it was the only locked door he’d encountered.
"Interesting."
He flipped his wrist and inserted a thin wire into the keyhole. A slight twist, and the lock clicked open. Zhang Yang quickly pushed the door in.
[Ding!]
[Target item located!]
As soon as his monocle scanned the room, it detected the Jade Mountain of Yu the Great’s Flood Control Map sitting on a long table.
The very sa jade carving, personally made by Emperor Qianlong, was shockingly being used as a simple desk ornant.
"What a luxury."
Zhang Yang locked the door behind him, chuckled coldly, and walked over to pick it up.
Just then, footsteps echoed on the second floor. Zhang Yang’s brows furrowed slightly. He quickly stored the Jade Mountain in the Magical Wardrobe of Kaitō Kid and calmly took a seat in the chair.
That door had been locked for a reason.
This was the office of Eagle Nation’s highest-ranking leader. It likely held all kinds of confidential docunts.
But Zhang Yang had no interest in their secrets. His plan was to sit tight, wait until they couldn’t find him and started doubting themselves, and then make his next move.
"I bet none of you will dare enter this office."
Zhang Yang looked calmly at the wide, heavy wooden door—completely unbothered.
And sure enough, Bruce and the others didn’t co in.
But Harrison’s next words made Zhang Yang’s expression tighten—he had suspected the office almost imdiately.
"Director Bruce, do you really think a lock like this could keep Kaitō Kid out?"
At the sa ti, Zhang Yang recognized Harrison’s voice.
"Harrison?"
"The mysterious man is Harrison?"
Once he realized it, Zhang Yang went to the window. There were still plenty of guards stationed outside.
He frowned and tossed a Super Smoke Bomb out the window. Then, within the smoke, he dropped an Illusion Dummy capsule.
In the darkness, the guards imdiately closed in, reporting in to Bruce at the sa ti.
"Director Bruce, we’ve found Kaitō Kid! He’s in the smoke!"
The guards quickly surrounded the area, not daring to let their guard down even for a second.
Through the thick smoke, they all swore they saw Kaitō Kid’s figure moving inside.
What the agents didn’t know was that Zhang Yang had released a dummy—just a decoy to draw their attention.
Bruce didn’t argue with Harrison about the locked door. Instead, he imdiately led his team downstairs.
Hesitating only briefly, Harrison followed.
"You’d better keep a tight watch on Kaitō Kid in that smoke!"
Seeing Bruce rushing to the front of the White House with his n, Zhang Yang let out a soft chuckle and stepped out of the office.
But just as the door shut behind him, a figure appeared at the top of the staircase.
Zhang Yang kept a calm face as he walked forward. The man in the black mask—Harrison—was visibly agitated, even his voice trembling with emotion.
At that mont, he was already pointing a gun straight at Zhang Yang.
"Kaitō Kid, I’ve finally caught you!"
Zhang Yang was now certain—the mysterious man really was Harrison.
If it had been anyone else, they probably would have opened fire already.
"Commander Harrison, it’s good to see you again."
Harrison’s finger twitched on the trigger. He was so nervous he almost fired by accident, but he slowly removed his mask.
"Kaitō Kid, this ti, you’ve lost."
"Surrender now, and maybe you’ll still have a chance to live."
The muzzle of his gun was only ten centiters from Zhang Yang’s forehead.
So Zhang Yang calmly raised his hands and stepped forward.
"No problem, Commander Harrison."
Harrison’s eyes flickered with disbelief. He clearly hadn’t expected Kaitō Kid to surrender so easily.
Still, he pulled out a pair of handcuffs from his belt and snapped them on without hesitation.
His aim never wavered—the barrel of his gun stayed pointed at Zhang Yang the entire ti.
Once the cuffs were secured, Zhang Yang smiled faintly and snapped his fingers.
Harrison imdiately sensed sothing was wrong. Just as he was about to speak, his legs gave out and he collapsed to the ground.
"Get so rest. It was great seeing you again, old friend."
With a quick twist, Zhang Yang unlocked the handcuffs.
The Sleep Powder Mist triggered by the snap was invisible in the dark, and though Harrison realized sothing was off, he still inhaled it.
Zhang Yang headed downstairs. By now, Bruce and his team had fully surrounded the smoke cloud.
He was shouting into it sternly.
"Kaitō Kid! You’re surrounded!"
"If you don’t co out of the smoke right now, we’ll open fire!"
The crowd outside the White House was stunned.
The smoke had appeared so suddenly, and they hadn’t seen the illusion dummy inside.
"What the hell? Is Kaitō Kid really about to be caught?"
"If Bruce’s that confident, maybe Kaitō Kid really is inside the smoke!"
"Are you kidding? Where did the smoke bomb even co from? You think Kaitō Kid just teleported into it?"
"Oh my god! God, please protect Kaitō Kid. Don’t let anything happen to him!"
"If Kaitō Kid surrenders now, would he get the death penalty?"
Bruce frowned deeply, glancing left and right. Still no sign of Harrison.
He raised his hand and signaled the agents to go in and capture the target.
As most of the agents moved into the smoke, Zhang Yang slipped out of the palace wearing Harrison’s black mask and an identical outfit.
"Director Bruce, have you lost your damn mind?"
"That smoke bomb—where did it co from? There were guards stationed here the whole ti. Do you really think Kaitō Kid just popped out of thin air?"
"Kaitō Kid is impressive, but he’s not capable of teleportation!"
Bruce stood there, completely dumbfounded by the outburst.
