Chapter 779: Chapter 272: Trouble Arises in the Eastern Capital

"Princess, please do not be willful. His Majesty is doing this for your own good," a palace maid hurriedly stepped forward to support her.

Donghuang Lingling grabbed the wrist of the palace maid, her voice sharp: "Tell , what happened during the ti I was away?"

The brother is indeed not an impostor, but ever since she returned, both the Empress Dowager and the brother seed a bit off.

Donghuang Lingling is no fool; she understood that sothing must have happened that she was unaware of.

If the Left Minister and his faction think that she is still that spoiled canary from the deep palace, then they are gravely mistaken.

"Princess, I really don’t know anything," the palace maid shrank back in fear.

Donghuang Lingling drew out her Magic Wand, a verdant Wind Scythe swirling around her, her face exuding an intense aura of murderous intent, "Are you a person of the Left Minister, or a person of Dugu Xiu?"

The palace maid felt a chill in her heart. Just as she tried to flee, a Wind Scythe struck her calf, and blood gushed out imdiately.

The palace maid was in so much pain that she almost passed out. She had not expected the princess, such a delicate woman, to be so ruthless.

Donghuang Lingling stepped on the maid’s wound, "You should have heard that I have been learning at the Mainland Magic Elite Camp for the past few years. Do you want to try what magic feels like, the sensation of the Wind Scythe slicing your pretty face one cut after another?"

This palace maid, rely a common Martial Artist with so knowledge of fist and foot techniques, had been originally placed by the Left Minister to monitor Donghuang Lingling.

Neither the Left Minister nor Dugu Xiu could have expected Donghuang Lingling to fight back.

Following Yun Sheng for years, especially during those days in the Sky Wings Arena, her mind and tactics have long surpassed that of the Donghuang Lingling who had just left the Eastern Capital.

One takes on the color of one’s company; the current Donghuang Lingling has already learnt quite a bit of Yun Sheng’s thuggish and forcefully domineering style.

She understood very well that one should be ruthless towards enemies.

The terrified maid imdiately recounted everything that had happened earlier to Donghuang Lingling.

After listening, Donghuang Lingling struck the palace maid’s neck with her palm, knocking her unconscious.

Donghuang Lingling decided to escape from the Imperial Palace first but was concerned about the Empress Dowager Situ. After hesitating for a mont, Donghuang Lingling decided to visit the Empress Dowager Situ’s chambers first.

Donghuang Lingling sneaked into the Empress Dowager’s bedchamber, "Empress Dowager, the brother wants

to marry Dugu Xiu. Do you know about this?"

"Lingling, you’re not young anymore, it is ti for you to marry," Empress Dowager Situ said amiably, taking her daughter’s hand.

"Empress Dowager, I have said, I can marry anyone but not a treacherous villain. Don’t you know that father was killed by an assassin sent by Emperor of Post Qin," Donghuang Lingling’s eyes reddened.

When the late Emperor Dong passed away, Donghuang Lingling was still young, and Empress Dowager Situ rely claid that the late Emperor died of a sudden illness.

As Donghuang Lingling grew up, she beca more skeptical about her father’s death. Although she appeared to have left the Eastern Capital to study magic, in reality, she was secretly investigating the true cause of the late Emperor’s death.

And sure enough, she found so clues.

Various signs indicated that the late Emperor’s death was related to the Left Minister and Post Qin.

It was also because she knew the truth of the matter that Donghuang Lingling, under no circumstances, was willing to marry Dugu Xiu.

Empress Dowager Situ looked alard and quickly covered her daughter’s mouth, "Lingling, who told you these things? You must not speak recklessly."

"I am no longer a child, Empress Dowager; we cannot stay here any longer. Brother has been acting rather strangely lately. I will take you away first," Donghuang Lingling took Empress Dowager Situ by the hand, intending to leave.

"Where might you be going, Your Highness?" a coquettish voice called out from one side.

A stunningly beautiful palace maid appeared, pushing aside the curtain and entering the room.

This palace maid was around twenty-eight, her eyes bewitching, with a curvaceous figure and an air of captivating allure about her.

Donghuang Lingling, seeing a face she did not recognize, grew wary, puzzled about when such a woman had co to the Empress Dowager’s chambers. "Who are you, and what are you doing in my mother’s palace?" she demanded guardedly.

"Hehe, it’s natural that the Princess doesn’t recognize

since you’ve been away from the palace for so long," the palace maid sashayed over, her thick scent so strong it made Donghuang Lingling frown.

"Who is your sister? Do not pretend to be so familiar with ," Donghuang Lingling said irritably, having a great dislike for won who acted this way.

This woman, with her demonic charm, simply didn’t sit right with her. Instinctively, Donghuang Lingling pulled Empress Dowager Situ back several steps, keeping a safe distance from the woman.

"Hehe, sister, do not be angry. I am called Chi Bi, the Dark Crown Prince’s concubine. After you marry the Dark Crown Prince, we will both serve His Highness. I am but a year your senior. If you do not wish to call

’sister,’ you can simply call

Chi Bi," the enchanting woman said with a giggle, covering her mouth.

Upon hearing this, Donghuang Lingling liked it even less.

"Who would want to marry soone as wolf-hearted as Dugu Xiu? Go back and tell him that Donghuang Lingling would rather die than marry him," said Donghuang Lingling. Suddenly feeling a sharp pain in her neck, she lost consciousness and fell to the ground.

Behind her, Empress Dowager Situ stood expressionlessly, holding a poisoned hairpin in her hand.

Lady Chi Bi walked up, bent down, and touched Donghuang Lingling’s cheek, "Tsk tsk, indeed, you are blessed with good looks. It’s just a pity you’re too headstrong. Never mind, let your sister teach you well; after so ti, Prince Dugu will be completely enamored with you."

"Lady Chi Bi," said the palace maid whom Donghuang Lingling had knocked unconscious, now holding her wound and coming to confess her mistake.

"Useless thing. It’s fortunate that the Prince is cautious enough to have

control both Donghuang Tianqi and Old Lady Situ. Otherwise, the Princess would have escaped," Lady Chi Bi had people carry away the unconscious Donghuang Lingling.

"I acknowledge my fault. By the way, the Princess had

burn so letters earlier; it seems they were sent from the Mainland Magic Elite Camp," the palace maid ntioned while presenting two letters.

Lady Chi Bi casually took the one from Gu Feng, glanced over it and let out a small laugh.

"Oh, what do we have here — a love-struck fool! Too bad, his beloved will soon be marrying the Crown Prince. Burn all the letters. Make sure not even ashes remain."

"As you command," said the palace maid, hastily retreating.

A few days later, Gu Feng, his face etched with worry, found Yun Sheng.

"Yun Sheng, have you received any letters from Lingling? I’ve written more than a dozen letters now, but she hasn’t replied to a single one," Gu Feng confided, distressed.

Previously, when Donghuang Lingling left, she was concerned that Gu Feng might insist on escorting her, so she did not inform him.

After finding out, Gu Feng even quietly harbored so grievances against Yun Sheng.

Since then, he began writing letters to Lingling, but after they were sent, there was no response.

Upon Gu Feng’s reminder, Yun Sheng suddenly realized that Lingling’s trip back ho to visit the sick had indeed taken overly long, and Donghuang Lingling had also not replied to any of his earlier letters to her.

Sothing was amiss.
