Silas Sutton’s words ’accompany for a drink’ were spoken naturally and calmly.

It seed like a perfectly normal conversation between two old friends.

Stella Grant heard it, but her expression remained unchanged while alarm bells rang inside her.

She hadn’t forgotten their chaotic night after drinking last ti; she didn’t want to make the sa mistake twice.

Silas said his piece, noticed her silence, turned around and raised an eyebrow slightly, "Hmm?"

Stella casually lied, "My throat’s been uncomfortable lately. I just took cefalexin before you ca."

Mix cefalexin and alcohol, and you’re done for.

She didn’t believe Silas would be so cruel as to ask her to risk her life to drink with him.

Sure enough, after she said that, Silas didn’t press further, "Then forget it."

After speaking, Silas walked to the dining table, picked up the wine vessel, and sat on the living room sofa.

Silas sipped red wine while looking down at his phone.

She didn’t know who he was chatting with, but it was clear Silas’s face didn’t look well.

After finishing a glass of red wine, Silas looked up and asked Stella, "Got any fruit at ho?"

Stella raised her eyes to et his gaze, "No, but there’s tomatoes. Can I slice them and sprinkle so sugar?"

Silas’s adam’s apple moved slightly, "Okay."

Silas agreed, so Stella stood up and went to the kitchen to slice the tomatoes.

As she sliced, she marveled that Sue Woods’ failed tomato and egg dish had left two unused tomatoes today.

Silas was ssaging Ben Lawson.

Ben had news from the dinner with Shawn Bishop’s boss tonight.

[The old man is really shrewd; he spent the whole night talking formalities without saying a word of truth]

Silas Sutton: The result.

Ben Lawson: Is that how you ask soone to do you a favor?

Silas Sutton: Cut the crap.

Ben Lawson: Such a sharp tone? Frustrated?

Looking at Ben’s ssages, Silas didn’t reply imdiately.

No wonder they grew up in open-crotch pants together; Ben imdiately sensed sothing was off and said: Did I nail it? Really frustrated?

Silas’s long fingers reached for a cigarette from the ashtray, pinched it at the butt.

Ben’s second ssage ca quickly: Where are you now?

Silas Sutton replied this ti: At Stella’s place.

Ben Lawson: What do you an??

Silas Sutton: Mooched dinner.

Mooched dinner at this ti?

Ben snickered over the phone, replied: Do you think I’m a fool?

Reading the screen, Silas’s thin lips curved slightly: Be confident, change the question mark to a period.

Seeing Silas’s ssage, Ben chuckled on the other end: Don’t want to know the result, do you?

Silas’s smile faded: Cut the jokes, get serious.

Silas stopped fooling, but that didn’t an Ben would.

Ben’s curiosity peaked, typed to ask: Tell the truth, what’s your deal with Stella? Care? Feel sothing? Or just purely want... so action?

Ben’s ssage was a direct hit to Silas’s heart.

Silas adjusted his sitting posture, leaned back, and his jaw clenched tightly.

Seeing Silas not replying, Ben started monologuing.

[If you ask , if you really like her, just go for it. Love is rare, don’t wait until you miss it and regret it.]

[Don’t tell you feel nothing for her; I know what you’re like inside and out. If there’s no feeling, your first ti together wouldn’t have happened.]

[Sutton, chickened out?]

Ben’s words were relentlessly poking at Silas’s deepest hidden spots.

Silas pressed his tongue against the inside of his cheek, the unsmoked cigarette in his hand broke in two.

As Stella brought over the tomatoes, she happened to see the broken cigarette between Silas’s fingers.

She thought the person ssaging him was Mr. Sutton and felt a sudden tightness in her heart, softly said, "Eat sothing sweet, it’ll make you feel better."

Upon hearing her voice, Silas looked up and t Stella’s clear eyes, his emotions complicated.

Does he like her?

In the reckless days of youth, he had entertained such thoughts.

Later, he forcibly uprooted those thoughts.

It’s not about not liking, but not being able to like.

If it weren’t for that night she was drugged...

Silas’s thoughts were a ss as the phone in his hand vibrated.

He glanced down at the phone; it was another ssage from Ben: Drunk, bla not the alcohol, but the human emotion-shaming trick.

Silas frowned.

Ben Lawson: So people aren’t thinking of forcing drinks now, are they?

Silas Sutton: Scram.

Ben Lawson: If you dare, swear you don’t like Stella, using your future and your body as collateral. If you do like her, your future will never know your body’s happiness.
