Ga day.

Not a final. Not a youth tournant.

A real match.

Campeonato Paulista – Matchday 1.Paliras vs São Bernardo FC. Early February. Warm afternoon. Stadium half-full but buzzing.

And Thiago?

On the bench.

Not a fan. Not a mascot.

A listed substitute for Paliras’ first team.

Fifteen years old. Boots laced. Na printed on the match sheet.

João called an hour before kickoff.

"You look at the starting XI?"

"Yeah."

"You nervous?"

"No."

"Liar."

Thiago smiled faintly, resting his back against the cold wall of the locker room. The senior starters were already out warming up. Only two players remained inside.

Him.

And Nando.

They sat in silence, taping up ankles and pulling on their match socks.

Thiago pulled the tape tight, then checked it twice. The elastic bite grounded him.

Nando broke the silence without looking up.

"Don’t chase the first touch. Let the ball co to you."

Thiago glanced over.

"Was that advice or a warning?"

Nando smirked. "Call it insurance."

Then stood and left.

Coach Eneas didn’t say much in the tunnel.

Just a clipboard tap on Thiago’s shoulder.

"If the chance cos, don’t wait for it to feel perfect. Take it."

Thiago nodded once.

The stadium roar kicked up as the players walked out.

Not deafening. Not international-level.

But alive.

And for the first ti since Rocinha, he felt like he’d stepped onto a stage bigger than he could imagine.

Thiago blinked it away.

No distractions.

Just the ga.

The first half was cagey.

São Bernardo ca to press hard and foul often. Paliras couldn’t find rhythm. The midfield clogged. Wingers got isolated.

By minute 25, the score was still 0–0, and the ho fans were already whistling.

Coach Eneas barked from the sidelines.

"Too wide! Compress! Where’s the rotation?!"

On the bench, Thiago sat forward, elbows on knees.

Not itching to go in.

Just watching.

Every detail. Every pattern.

The fullback on the right was getting cooked in transition.

The left winger—Nando—barely touched the ball.

When he did, he lost it.

Minute 41 — miscontrol. Counterattack.

Goal.

0–1 São Bernardo.

Thiago didn’t even flinch.

He just locked eyes with Coach Eneas as the players jogged back to the center circle.

The coach didn’t nod.

But he didn’t look away either.

Halfti locker room. Quiet.

No slamming lockers. No screaming.

Just air thick with frustration.

Coach Eneas didn’t yell.

He pointed.

"You," he said to the left midfielder. "Off."

Then to Nando.

"Switch to left-center."

Then to Thiago.

"You’re on."

The room didn’t react.

But a few heads turned.

Fifteen. First match. Down by a goal.

Thiago just nodded.

And pulled on his bib.

As he waited near the sideline, Nando passed him coming off the pitch.

"Don’t ss it up," he said. No sarcasm this ti.

Thiago didn’t answer.

Then the fourth official raised the board.

Number 17 on. Number 26 off.

The whistle blew.

And Thiago stepped onto the field.

First touch: a simple layoff under pressure.

Clean.

Second touch: diagonal run off the striker, dragging two defenders wide, freeing space for a midfield shot.

Blocked.

Third touch: inside cut, drawn foul near the touchline.

Crowd buzzed.

No chaos. No magic.

Just football.

Minute 57.

Paliras built from the back. Thiago drifted wide-left, hugged the line.

The ball ca. He trapped it mid-run, eyes scanning.

Overlap coming.

Nope—defender cut the lane.

So he cut inside. Light on his feet. Midfielder closing in.

He faked once, then spun out of pressure with a half-circle drag.

Crowd roared.

He laid it off cleanly, then reset his position.

Coach Eneas didn’t cheer. Just scribbled.

Minute 63.

Chance.

Midfielder lifted a ball over the top.

Thiago sprinted—tid it perfectly.

Ball fell just behind the defender.

He touched once. Set. Shot low—

Blocked.

Corner.

The crowd stood now.

Thiago jogged back into position, heart steady, breath sharp.

This wasn’t impossible.

This was his field now.

Minute 71.

Paliras equalized. Not Thiago’s assist—but it ca down his side, off a cross he helped start.

He didn’t celebrate.

Just jogged back, refocused, already scanning for the next gap.

Minute 84.

Subbed off.

He hadn’t scored.

He hadn’t dazzled.

But when he ca off, even Nando clapped twice.

Coach Eneas said nothing until the end.

Then pulled him aside.

"Debut’s done."

That was it.

Thiago showered last, changed in silence, then walked out of the locker room with his bag over his shoulder.

Outside, a few youth journalists were waiting, recording match clips.

One of them raised a phone.

"Thiago—first appearance! How’d it feel?"

He paused.

Then said, flatly:

"Like the first touch on a rooftop. Hard and loud."

Then kept walking.

Phone buzzing in his pocket.

Camila:"Solid debut. You looked calm out there."

He stared at the screen.

Then typed:

"Not calm. Focused."

No reply ca.

But the ssage stayed unread.

And Thiago liked it that way.
