"Hmm, go on," Bastion said, waiting to hear what questions his son might have.

Kai began carefully, "Okay, so I’ll start this way, have you ever willingly bent a knee in surrender to soone else?"

Bastion looked at his son, raising his brows in half-awe. "That’s a really odd question..."

"I know. I lack a better way to begin," Kai admitted.

Bastion sighed and pulled his chair back from the desk, then settled into it. "Okay, start this way then. First off, tell why you ask."

Kai took a breath. "I got into a fight with this human, and admittedly he was strong enough to make transform—"

"Interesting..." Bastion interjected.

"Yes, I know that there are pretty powerful humans as it is. I acknowledge that, but against this guy, I didn’t think I’d ever need to transform."

"Go on, Kai..." Bastion said, waiting for his son to get to the point.

"But sothing happened after that transformation. I don’t know what it was but he did sothing that suddenly made feel this urge to not fight him anymore, and not just that, it made want to serve him even."

This made Bastion’s calr deanor shift into shock. "To serve him?!" he had to ask again.

"Yes, Father, to serve him, and it felt like a natural longing desire even," Kai added.

"Then how did you overco it?" Bastion asked, genuinely wanting to know how his son dealt with this threat.

"I don’t know. I guess I summoned enough willpower to resist the effects of his magic," Kai said, shrugging slightly as he couldn’t exactly put it into words.

"Good." Bastion stood up. "After the age of the old dragon kings, dragonkind has bowed to no one. It was just petty human magic, nothing more."

"Speaking of which, you’ve never told about the dragon kings," Kai said, sowhat wanting to finally listen to the story.

"That would be for another ti," Bastion replied, then asked, "You said you had questions? Was that all?"

Kai’s eyes, filled with determination, then said "After that horrible experience, I never want to feel like that ever again. I never used to want to transform before, because a part of never liked being half-dragon, only keeping that as a last resort..." He clenched his fist. "But I’m ready to accept that part of now." Kai walked closer. "Will you teach how to be a dragon?"

A grin drew across Bastion’s face instantly. "Took you three long years to co to your senses." He stood up, picking his suit from the iron stand. "I’ll teach you all you need to know," he said as he made his way toward the door leading into his room.

"Thank you, Father," Kai said, bowing slightly as his father left.

Bastion said nothing else to Kai as his thoughts were on the very words he had spoken: "Dragonkind has bowed to no one..." He clicked his tongue in frustration. That wasn’t entirely true.

-One Week Later, After Yaela’s Abduction...

At eight o’clock that evening, the doors of Liam’s house opened after he unlocked them with his key. He stepped inside and sat on the couch, having just concluded his daily quests.

[Daily Quest Complete]

That was the last system notification screen that had just faded, then he picked up his phone as it had been buzzing earlier when he ran about a thousand kiloters to complete these daily quests.

The screen showed a bunch of missed call notifications:

Missed calls: Elaine (3)

Missed call: Talkative Sarah (1)

Missed calls: Amir Khan (2)

The numbers in brackets indicated how many tis each person had called without him picking up. He sighed after seeing the missed calls, shaking his head, then scrolled down to another notification. It was a text from a contact he had saved as "Director G" saying "Be here tomorrow."

That was from Grey, and for the last week, this was how he operated; only entering the facility when needed or when called for, like how it was really supposed to be for those known as "special agents." Liam’s decision to show up every day until Yaela’s kidnapping had been his choice, and not mandatorily.

For breaches, he still had the device that every other agent carried, given to them by Usov, which alerted for breaches and pinged the exact location it happened at. This device was specially for tis the agents weren’t within the main facility itself to hear the blaring of alarms. And this was how Liam was able to handle tracking of monsters and deal with evacuations when needed.

Tossing his phone to the side after going through the pending notifications, he decided to pull up his evolution system interface to adjust the stats he had gained in the last seven days.

There were only a few changes—his level had gone up slightly and he had gained the 10 stat points after defeating an eight-foot-tall yeti-like monster and making it enter into a contract with him.

His mind flashed back to the scene of the monster with its massive white furry body, enormous muscular arms with bluish-toned flesh, and oversized clawed hands with long curved talons. Its head featured a terrifying skull-like face with glowing red eyes, exposed fangs, and a gaping maw. It was an S-class mythical monster.

It had appeared in the early hours of that morning, right in the middle of Liam trying to complete his daily quest as he paced around town to conclude a 1,500-kiloter run. Given how short a ti he had left to finish the daily quest, he didn’t waste ti trying to have a long fight with the yeti-like monster. It was, in fact, a pretty swift takedown.
