Chapter 54: Ye Ning

.

It was during one of his visits to the black market in Qiyun City that he t the Elf girl.

The beast tide that had heavily struck the Lushan province had already happened several decades ago,

and the city back then was already very different from how it was now.

At that ti, he was eighty years old and had just reached the peak of the fourth stage of the Mortal Realm.

Reaching this level at eighty was far from average, in fact, it was considered quite late.

Usually, even an average cultivator with moderate talent could achieve the sa result in just over half that ti,

but it had taken him much longer due to his deformity.

He was struggling to break through, so he ca here.

He needed a rare ingredient to create a high grade Qi Refining Pill that would help him make the breakthrough.

Unfortunately, he couldn’t get his hands on that ingredient, as it had already been obtained by another custor.

Normally, he would have waited to find the ingredient sowhere else, but this ti, he had no intention of letting it slip away so easily.

He had already spent too much ti trying to break through and wasn’t willing to miss this opportunity,

so he decided to take it by force, since the other party wasn’t willing to sell it.

It seed the other party needed that ingredient for the sa reason as him, and given how difficult it was to acquire, he refused to sell it, not even for a price several tis higher.

He had done a bit of research on the other party and discovered that he would be leaving the city the next day, so he decided to ambush him.

But who would have imagined that his target would be dead before he even had the chance to act?

And the culprit behind this was none other than the elf girl.

He had seen her working as a shop assistant at the place where he had gone to buy the ingredient, but didn’t pay her much attention at the ti.

After all, it wasn’t the first ti he’d seen mbers of other races.

He had t plenty, both of high rank and mixed blood.

Seeing one here wasn’t anything new to him, even more so since the girl was rely a first stage cultivator.

Basically, nothing about her left any particular impression on him, so he hadn’t paid her much attention.

That’s why he was surprised to see her wipe out the entire escort group of the man who had bought the ingredient he wanted.

It should be known that that man’s escort was made up of several first and second stage cultivators, with the man himself at the third stage.

Yet she managed to slaughter all of them, coming out almost completely unscathed.

Apparently, the man had bought her directly from the owner and intended to use her as entertainnt during the trip,

but instead, he ended up getting killed by her.

He was shocked by the girl’s abilities,

with her ager cultivation, she managed to wipe them all out,

and not with so trick, but purely through strength and combat skill.

He realized she was a rare genius capable of fighting far above her cultivation level.

That said, no matter how strong she was, she wasn’t a match for a peak fourth stage cultivator like him, and so she was easily defeated.

She had tried to kill him too when he approached the carriage, now full of corpses,

but hadn’t expected to find soone at his level, so she lost easily.

Normally, Zhu Rong would have killed anyone who tried to take his life, but he was intrigued by the girl’s abilities, so he gave her a choice:

die, or work for him.

With no other option, the Elf girl nad Ye Ning accepted, though clearly reluctantly.

He could tell she held grudges, not against him personally, but against his race in general.

It was clear the girl had endured her fair share of misfortune, and knowing how the world worked, he could roughly imagine what she had been through.

That said, though she was reluctant back then, she didn’t know that what she thought was an unfortunate encounter would actually beco the greatest opportunity of her life.

In less than a decade under Zhu Rong’s care, she beca a fifth stage cultivator, thus reaching the pinnacle of the mortal realm.

Since Zhu Rong wasn’t able to cultivate properly himself, he had decided to take her as his disciple and personally train her.

He had knowledge of various techniques and cultivation thods, and even his wealth had grown over ti.

In short, he had everything needed to bring any normal cultivator to a high level.

He wanted to see how far soone with talent like hers could go if properly nurtured, and the results didn’t disappoint him.

He believed it was because he wanted to witness the growth of soone blessed with the kind of talent he himself had never had in his life.

He traveled for nearly two centuries with her, until the ti eventually ca for him to part ways and let her continue walking her own cultivation path.

He hadn’t seen her since then, so seeing her again after so long made his heart feel warm.

Ye Ning, crouching inside the cage, heard what he had just said and couldn’t help but glance at him a little cautiously.

Clearly, she had been through a lot, and didn’t trust anyone.

But when she looked at the expression of the person who had bought her, she felt a strange sensation.

She wasn’t sure what it was, but for so reason, this person gave her a different feeling from the others.

She didn’t feel distrust toward him, nor the instinctive fear that had haunted her all this ti.

’Who... is he?’

A sudden curiosity was born in her, and before she even realized it, the fear she had felt monts ago disappeared, replaced only by curiosity.

The rchant wasted no ti completing the transaction and tried to get him to buy a few more slaves.

He had been in this business a long ti and had t people of every kind and status.

Although on the surface the boy might seem ordinary, he could sense there was sothing more.

The way he had carried himself the whole ti, and the composure he had maintained, were things he had only seen in certain high level individuals.

Without knowing it, Zhu Rong had already beco a person of high status in the rchant’s eyes, who, seeing the opportunity, decided to try selling him a few more high quality slaves.

Unfortunately for him, he didn’t know that the other party was much poorer than he thought,

and although in the end he managed to sell him a few more slaves, the profit was far lower than he had expected to make.
