Chapter 239: Calamity 8

.

Three against one, yet the one holding the upper hand was the enemy.

That alone showed just how desperate the situation was.

On one side stood the three emperors of the dominant races beyond the frozen lands,

and on the other, a titanic being, whose size was far from the only thing that stood out.

Its structure vaguely resembled that of a human, but every proportion was wrong, distorted.

Its shoulders were far too broad, its torso unnaturally elongated, and its arms, thick like towers, hung heavily at its sides.

Its skin was disturbingly dark.

A dull black, like burned flesh fused with molten stone, crossed by crimson veins that pulsed slowly, lighting up with every breath like glowing cracks. With each pulse, a wave of corrupted energy spread through the air, weighing down the space itself and making it difficult even to breathe.

And then there was its face.

It had humanoid features, yet completely devoid of any real expression.

Its eyes were hollow sockets filled with a dim red glow, like embers that would never burn out.

Its mouth was far too wide, almost forced onto its face, and when it opened, it revealed irregular, blackened teeth, more like shards of obsidian than bone.

A being of such size and appearance was more than enough to make cultivators of the Mortal Realm tremble, or even faint at the re sight of it staring back at them.

They were all at the sa level of cultivation, and yet the creature’s techniques and attacks were capable of repelling theirs, and worse still, nullifying them to a certain extent.

The first to experience this was the Beast Emperor.

After transforming into his dragon form, he unleashed one of his most powerful attacks.

It was an assault that shook space itself, whose sheer pressure cracked the ground and sent violent shockwaves spreading in all directions, powerful enough to trigger an explosion of energy that engulfed an entire radius of one kiloter,

erasing every nearby creature without distinction.

An attack of that caliber was sothing even third stage Spirit Realm beings had to face with caution, yet it seed to have done almost nothing to the creature.

Or rather, it had clearly suffered visible injuries, but they were nothing significant. It was still standing, still relatively intact.

At first glance, it looked as though it had survived the attack by facing it head on, but to more attentive eyes, what truly happened beca clear imdiately.

The attack had landed squarely on the creature, yet instead of unleashing its destructive force upon it, the energy had been dispersed.

The spiritual energy used was absorbed by the creature, which seed to revel in it.

The three emperors could tell that it had practically devoured the energy of the attack, nullifying it in the process.

But it did not stop there.

Its enormous body, defying all common sense, lit up with energy before vanishing from its position, only to reappear in midair above the Beast Emperor, who barely managed to perceive his opponent’s arrival.

The monster had condensed all that energy into its fist and hurled it straight at the dragon.

Had it not been for the Elf Queen, who acted imdiately and used her powers to support the him, he would have been in serious trouble against that sudden attack.

And thus the battle began, continuing with a similar dynamic: their attacks, loaded with spiritual energy, were repelled or absorbed, only to be turned back against them.

This gave the three emperors no small amount of trouble, but they were not the strongest figures of their races for nothing.

They changed tactics again and again, carefully observing the enemy and its movents, until they realized that physical attacks were far more effective. Attacks fueled by spiritual energy could be absorbed, physical ones could not.

As a result, their formation shifted into its current state:

the Human Emperor as the main attacker, followed by the Emperor of Beasts as the secondary, both supported by the Elf Queen, who not only reinforced them but also worked to make the monster’s life increasingly difficult.

This seed to work, and the massive creature finally appeared to be under pressure.

Both sides fell into a stalemate.

The three emperors had found the right synergy to repel and counterattack the beast successfully, which could no longer dominate the battle as it had before.

That, however, seed to trigger a reaction within it.

The expression of joy it had worn until now twisted into sothing darker, more malicious.

It raised its head and let out a powerful roar that, at first glance, seed ordinary, but it quickly beca clear that it was anything but.

The roar shook the surroundings, making everything tremble, beasts and humans alike. Yet unlike the humans, the beasts seed to grow even more frenzied, their ferocity intensifying further.

And it did not end there.

Soon, corrupted energy began to leak from the creature’s body like black crimson smoke,

slowly at first, then growing more violent, until it finally erupted outward in a massive wave of energy that spread in all directions.

Upon witnessing this, the three emperors’ expressions darkened, panic clearly written on their faces as they realized what it was doing.

It was unleashing its Domain, in other words, activating its primary Law.

A Domain was the ability to influence and control the surrounding environnt through one’s primary Law.

Such a thing could only be achieved once one had comprehended their Laws to a certain extent, sothing all four present had accomplished by reaching the peak of their stages.

That said, a Domain could be countered by stronger Domains, provided their Laws and understanding were deeper and more refined.

Letting an enemy unleash their Domain and fighting within it was like battling on their ho ground, inside their own territory, sothing none of the three emperors had any intention of allowing.

Thus, the mont they witnessed the scene, all three wasted no ti and imdiately unleashed their own Domains.

Soon, within the area of the battlefield where the four were fighting, four powerful auras surged into the air and erupted with full force, quickly colliding with one another.
