"B-But, I keep telling you that I didn’t say anything bad about your young Master...!" A young woman of around seventeen resisted the pull on her arm, tears pouring from her round, sparkling green eyes. "H-He was harassing , and... and I just asked him to kindly leave alone... I-I... I didn’t an to—"
OOOM!
The Polar Bear Therian unleashed his Early Foundation Establishnt Realm cultivation, voiding all of the woman’s resistance. As fear drained her beautiful face of all its vibrant color, she found herself being forcefully dragged out of a dark alleyway that sat behind the bar she worked at.
"You’ll have all the ti in the world to explain your side of the story to the young Master!" the Polar Bear Therian growled, his black-and-white suit stretching out slightly due to the enlarging of his muscles. "Now, stop resisting and co with us!"
The young woman felt her arm crack, the stinging pain bringing even more tears to her eyes. However, mixed in with her fear was a staggering level of hatred—an emotion that quickly overwheld everything else she was feeling.
Yet...
In the World of Immortal Cultivation, there was only one thing that truly mattered. And with her being but a re hostess at a simple bar, she wasn’t even of the Qi Condensation Realm.
But that didn’t an the fire in her eyes wasn’t still there...
And this fire interested a shadowy figure standing atop the bar’s roof like a godlike entity. A curious glow revealed itself within his deathly blue eyes.
As the pretty young woman was stuffed into a fancy carriage against her will by several suited Therians, the shadowy figure standing atop the roof mysteriously vanished.
*Fwooosh!*
"The wind is blowing especially hard tonight," said the suited Dog-like Therian driver. "It gives off an ominous feel."
The Polar Bear Therian who had kidnapped the hate-filled girl tied up beside him erupted in laughter. "You always were the superstitious one, Cheng! But you know, not everything is caused by so higher power or voodoo. Sotis, natural forces are just natural forces—not the handiwork of so god."
"I agree," sounded a husky voice from within the carriage. "But in this case—"
"!!!" "!!!" "!!!"
SHING...
"Nature had no part to play in the change in weather."
Without anyone having seen him unsheathe his sword, Zar crept it back into its scabbard. While that happened, the carriage driver as well as the four other suited Therians had blood spurt from their sliced-open necks.
With the lifeforces of re Qi Condensation and Foundation Establishnt Realm cultivators being very limited, just a simple physical attack was enough to kill them all.
*Ding...*
Ignoring the System Notifications informing him of the less than one week’s worth of Lifespan that he had acquired, Zar shifted his glowing gaze to the tied-up girl. Oddly enough, she hadn’t scread, and she didn’t appear the least bit terrified of him.
"Truly an interesting lass," he smirked, his hands blurring as her rope restraints ca off. "What’s your na, girl?"
Rather than stare at him warily, the young woman showed what was most definitely a glimr of awe. But when she realized that he had asked her sothing, she hurriedly replied, "M-My na is i Yue, and I’m a cat-kin."
Her fluffy white ears perked, making one feel the urge to rub them.
Unconsciously, Zar activated Lifespan Detection:
[i Yue (No Cultivation) 17/65/10,400]
A Maximum Lifespan of over 10,000 years!?
*Bang! Bang!*
The rocking of the driverless carriage montarily took Zar out of his astounded thoughts. Though, with his proficiency in Spiritual Telekinesis, he was able to expertly control and steer the carriage without moving a single muscle. While it took them on a joyride through the populated city, Zar coughed to clear the air and regain his bearings.
"You worked as a hostess at that bar back there?" he asked. "And I heard sothing about a young Master harassing you?"
The young woman’s amazent over witnessing this unknown man effortlessly slaughter so many cultivation powerhouses was quickly dampened by grievances. Then that sa fiery hatred from earlier reappeared, urging her to bite her lips so as to avoid gnashing her pearly white teeth.
"Those fiends... those n were the cronies of an Underworld Boss that’s well-known in C-District," she began. "As he’s of the Core Formation Realm, a mythical stage very rarely seen in this part of the capital, none dare ss with him. And one night, he visited our bar... That was when he saw and got... touchy and demanding. In my anger, I stord out, and for days I remained unaware of his identity.
That was until today..."
Zar rattled his sword a little, leaning into the back of his carriage seat. He was finding all this so very laughable.
’To think that soone with cultivation potential far exceeding the Deity Transformation Realm has been put into such a predicant by a tiny Core Formation Realm ant. Where is the logic in this??’
ng, who was currently trying his utmost to break through the Core Formation Realm in Azure dicine Valley, would cry tears of blood if he heard his Junior Brother’s words.
"Well, no matter," Zar suddenly said, attracting i Yue’s attention. "How would you like to go sowhere better? To alter your destiny with your own two hands?"
Happiness imdiately filled i Yue’s enchanting eyes, but that happiness was just as quickly quelled when she recalled the dangerous Underworld Boss targeting her. Averting her shaky gaze, she went to reject his kind offer.
She didn’t know how strong this mysterious man was exactly, but even if he was capable enough, she didn’t want to embroil him in her own problems—
FWOOOM!
A huge gust of shadowy energy suddenly blew through the moving carriage. When it subsided, a large suited walrus Therian appeared. All his limbs were broken in every way possible, with his 4th Layer Core Formation Realm aura spiraling in a self-destructive way.
"This is the one, right?" Zar asked calmly while nonchalantly sipping on a cup of tea. "That Underworld Boss... What’s your na?"
"Do you not know who I am, you fool!?? Who I work for!??" the broken walrus Therian shouted deliriously. "I am Feng Mo...!!! Argghh—!"
"No one cares," said Zar, breaking one of his fingers with his Spiritual Telekinesis. "Now then, girl, will cutting this weed quell your worries?"
Although extrely shocked, i Yue nodded.
"Alright."
"W-Wait—!"
SPLAT!
With an explosion of blood, the Walrus Underworld Boss died. However, before his blood could paint the carriage’s interior red, Zar used his Spiritual Energy to contain it, shrink it, and turn it into a tiny spherical marble.
Holding it within his right hand, he offered it to the stunned girl beside him. But with a stuttering rejection, she pushed his hand away.
"You don’t want it?"
She furiously shook her head. "You’re the one who killed him, so it ans nothing to ..."
Zar arched a brow. "So you’re telling that you wanted to kill him yourself? If so, then I apologize—"
"N-No, that’s not it," i Yue sputtered, clenching the hem of her dress with her dainty hands. "It’s not that... I just..."
"You don’t need to explain any further," said Zar, feeling that urge to ruffle her hair again. "But I assu this ans you’ll accept my proposition? Naturally, you’ll have to leave everything here behind, as you’ll be entering an Immortal Sect. But—"
"I agree!"
"Hum?"
Suddenly overco with embarrassnt, i Yue softly muttered, "I-I’m sorry... But I’d really like to co with you if you’d have ..."
"Mhmm," said Zar, finding her innocence quite endearing, especially while having lived in a cruel world like this one for so long. "Well anyway, I just happened to spot you after returning from a ’pest control’ task, so that ans I still have to convince my Sect to let you in. But considering how much potential you have for cultivation, I doubt there will be much of a problem."
"Potential?" i Yue parroted, question marks forming. "But I’ve... I’ve been told by the Elders in my hotown that I don’t possess any talent for cultivation..."
She grew glum.
But with Zar reassuring her with words along the lines of ’They were blind’ or ’They were foolish idiots,’ she instantly brightened up. And as they peacefully rode the carriage out of the Quixan Capital City, the atmosphere stayed warm and welcoming.
It was far different than what it was normally like talking to other people.
After her parents found themselves in debt, they ran off while she was still very young. But the debt her parents accumulated ended up being passed down to her.
Left with no other choice, she left her small hotown in the countryside for the big city, hoping to make enough money to one day pay off her debt.
Since then, talking to people normally involved substantial amounts of deaning language, harsh words, and nasty remarks...
But with this man whose na i Yue still didn’t know, it felt as if she could confide anything with him. As if he would just absorb it all and respond in a way that’d make her all warm and fuzzy inside.
"Hey, mister," she asked sheepishly, causing him to turn his perfect face her way. "What... What’s your na...?"
Zar gave the question no real thought, answering, "Zar. No last na."
"Zar...?" i Yue pursed her lips cutely. "I don’t an to be rude, but that’s a pretty unusual na. And to not have a surna on top of that..."
She was beginning to believe that he just didn’t want to tell her his actual na. But before the self-deprecating thoughts could begin stirring again, he further added:
"Parents weren’t present ever, so don’t know my surna. As for the unusualness of my first na, a monkey gave it. Moreover, it happened within an area that was essentially a highly experintal world — one where plenty of things were out of whack."
