48: Chapter 40 Why Do You Compel ?
“Brian, I’m so glad you’re okay!”
As soon as Ivan saw Brian following Susan, he rushed up to give him a warm hug.
Brian decisively refused the close contact, “Don’t do that, Ivan.
I’m very weak now, and I can’t stand your roughness.”
Regarding everyone’s previous concessions.
Brian didn’t feel much awkwardness.
It’s only human nature.
Emotions, they need ti to brew.
It was already beyond his expectations that everyone ca forward at that ti.
Susan also briefly ntioned Brian’s situation.
She didn’t want the new team she had just ford to have any estrangent over trivial matters.
…
After returning to Los Angeles,
since the new office of the Sixth Group was still under urgent renovation and many equipnt needed filling, plus the need to recruit so assisting staff, the Sixth Group entered a period of refurbishnt.
Brian sent the news of his successful employnt to his uncle and then borrowed so money from Susan to spend all day at the firing range partnered with the police station, beginning to train his gun skills.
Actually, gun skills, aside from a few individuals with extraordinary talent, are mostly developed through extensive practice with bullets.
Unfortunately,
Brian’s Supercomputer Perception Talent was very much suited for shooting.
Actually, hidden weapons worked too, more suitable for assassination.
But having a gun and not using it, relying on martial arts, how could one beco a grandmaster?
Mad Dog Ike developed it into the Precise Throwing skill, too limited, completely turning a priceless pearl into a glass marble for play, a waste!
Brian suspected this was related to Ike’s ntal state.
Such individuals,
cannot be understood by normal logic.
…
Thanks to his enhanced physical condition, akin to that of soone who regularly exercises and works out,
in just two weeks,
Brian’s gun skills improved rapidly.
At least within twenty ters, hitting a fixed target, he could almost hit exactly where he aid.
As for moving targets…
much better than before, but not a significant qualitative change.
No way around it.
Although after firing hundreds of bullets, Brian understood roughly what kind of wind speed and aiming were needed to hit the target, every ti he fired, it was still difficult to precisely control the position of his gun.
A slight deviation.
And the landing point of the bullets would be worlds apart.
Brian, with his only average talent in this area, had to rely on feeding a large number of bullets to develop muscle mory to achieve a major breakthrough.
It required more bullets and ti.
…
What surprised Brian was,
since he texted his uncle, not only had there been no response, but even his cousin seed to have lost contact.
Because of Susan’s words,
Brian had been restraining himself from contacting the Kamor family mbers.
But after two weeks,
he was getting impatient.
Just when Brian was thinking of finding Ivan and the others, wanting to use their inforr connections to check on the Bloodbath Gang’s situation, Susan, who hadn’t shown up for many days, ca to the firing range with a suave-looking Caucasian man in a suit and gold-rimd glasses, finding him.
“Boss, are we regrouping?”
Brian greeted Susan warmly.
The bonus from the NW hadn’t co through yet.
The money for the bullets for his shooting practice and his foster parents’ dical bills this month had all been borrowed from Susan.
The team leader really had a strong sense of loyalty.
Susan shook her head, said nothing, but gestured for the glasses-wearing man to speak.
The Caucasian man with glasses politely extended his hand to Brian, “Autopsy Officer Brian, I am Investigator Karen from Team A’s First Group.
I ca here to ask you about so issues.”
Now Brian understood why he didn’t see his forensic colleagues when he went to interview at Ace Base.
Because they joined Team A directly.
No need for probationary assessnt.
As for Susan and others’ reserve teams ford by the second generation, after turning official, they would report to Team B.
In the NW organization, Team A’s status is higher than that of Team B.
A mber of Team A coming to find him…
Brian tensed up, realizing the other party’s purpose.
He picked up the towel on his shoulder, wiped the sweat off, concealing the slight change in his expression, “No problem, directly ask whatever you need.”
Karen nodded, his face turning from gentle to stern, “Do you still rember Shaina?”
Brian nodded, “Of course I rember, she was a poor woman.
I even helped deliver the receipt for her boyfriend’s insurance compensation.”
“Was there anything unusual about her at the ti?”
Brian stroked his chin, thought for a mont, then shook his head,
“Well…
Shaina heard her boyfriend had left her a large amount of insurance money and lowered her head sobbing very sadly.
But in reality,
I didn’t see any tears on her face.
I an, I could feel that she was just pretending to cry, so I just left.”
Upon hearing this, Karen adjusted her glasses, “Are you saying that she wasn’t really sad about her boyfriend’s death?”
“I’m not sure, but it felt like she might not have been as sad as she appeared to be,” Brian changed the subject, “Investigator Karen, what happened to Shaina?”
“She’s dead.”
Karen didn’t keep it secret:
“A few days ago, a thief broke into her house to steal and found her decaying body on the ground.
After an autopsy,
the forensic doctor discovered Shaina died from a drug injection into her carotid artery, causing cardiac arrest.
We found nurous injection marks on her skin.
She had a severe addiction.”
Hearing this, Brian shook his head, “Such a pity for Kenneth’s child.”
It was then that Susan spoke up, “Investigator Karen, Brian and Shaina had no conflict of interest, they didn’t even know each other before this.
It was just a simple accident.
I hope in the future you will spend more ti on the case rather than focusing on us colleagues!”
Karen shrugged apologetically and reached out to Brian, “Sorry, I was just following procedure.”
Brian breathed a sigh of relief, reached out his hand, and smiled, “I understand..”
Suddenly,
Brian’s expression changed slightly, looking at Karen with confusion.
Karen just nodded with a smile, withdrew his hand, greeted Susan, and left on his own.
..
Brian casually withdrew his hand and looked at Susan, “Team leader, why do I feel like you don’t like this guy?”
Susan rolled her eyes:
“Because their team leader is a guy I really dislike.
In fact, it’s because of their team leader that I applied to be the group leader of Team B.
Otherwise, I would probably have beco a sowhat famous Bounty Hunter by now.”
As she spoke,
she seed to think of sothing amusing, a smile appeared on her face, “Oh, and recently, the first unit of Team A had a new investigator who just joined and went missing, they didn’t even find the body, which made the team leader of Team A lose quite a bit of face.”
Upon hearing this, Brian’s heart sank.
He thought of the Caucasian detective he had disposed of earlier.
Good grief.
Trouble was coming.
After Susan asked a few more caring questions, she hurried off.
She had been really busy recently.
After bidding farewell to Susan,
Brian went to the shooting range’s restroom, stretched out his hand, and looked at the “Gift” left by Karen.
It was a piece of paper.
On the paper was a na: Andres.
The very first beast Brian had executed.
The detective who had previously approached him on his own was also there because of Andres.
So was this a warning?
…
Brian scoffed, throwing the paper into the toilet and flushing it away.
Although unclear why Karen and the previous detective were targeting him,
since Karen hadn’t co directly with people to arrest him,
it indicated that Karen didn’t have evidence to charge him!
The opponent was probably wary of his official NW position, so they wanted to stir up alarm!
A fleeting shadow of the Blood Moon flashed through Brian’s eyes:
“Why do they have to force when I just want to lead a good life?”
“Can’t I just live peacefully?”
He took a deep breath, temporarily suppressing the murderous intent in his heart.
Karen was yet untouchable.
He had killed too many people recently.
Strictly speaking,
all these people had had contact with him.
Nothing had been fully exposed.
Only because the base number was too low, and there was no connection between the dead, and the bodies had been dealt with.
But if soone were to focus on him,
it would be easy to discover a problem.
Brian silently lit a cigarette.
For the sake of the dead’s Gift.
He had to kill.
But couldn’t expose himself.
How could he solve this problem?
