706: Chapter 706: Naless Characters (Alliance Leader Bonus Chapter/Double Updates for Monthly Pass) 706: Chapter 706: Naless Characters (Alliance Leader Bonus Chapter/Double Updates for Monthly Pass) “What are you doing stopping here?”

The rcenary sitting in the passenger seat looked at the rcenary in the driver’s seat with confusion.

“Heh heh,”

The driver rcenary pushed open the car door, glanced at the tightly closed door of the cake shop by the road and laughed, “See that cake shop?

I bought a cake here yesterday.

The owner lady, man, she’s drop-dead gorgeous.”

“You’re crazy,” the passenger rcenary stared at him in surprise, “We’re on a mission!”

The two rcenaries in the back seat also looked cluelessly at the driver rcenary.

“What mission, my ass,”

The driver rcenary looked up at the sky, twisting with purple radiance, “We’ve most likely been duped by the Captain and that old man, screw it, I’ll have my fun first,”

He stepped out of the car, looked at the closed door and fired a shot that shattered the shop’s glass door, then shouted with a laugh into the interior, “Owner lady, you’ve got custors.”

Bang bang bang—

As he spoke, he raised his gun and sprayed bullets around the shop.

“Ah!”

A little girl’s panicked scream ca from inside the shop.

Imdiately after was the sound of confused sobbing.

“Yo ho, the kid is here too.”

Excited by the sound, the rcenary laughed even more heartily, used the butt of the gun to smash the rest of the shop’s glass door, and prepared to step inside.

“Bastard!”

Suddenly, a figure dashed out from the darkness of the night, landing a punch on the rcenary’s head and sending him flying.

It was only then that the rcenary’s teammates ca to their senses, looking towards the ‘figure’ that had flown in.

The figure’s face was unrecognizable, completely encased in a layer of silver-black armor.

“Screw up my good ti, will you!”

The knocked-out rcenary, his face covered in blood, quickly reacted, lifted his gun, and prepared to attack the armored figure.

Bang bang bang—

But the next second, he was turned into a sieve by the gunfire from the figure’s raised weapon.

Blood spattered into the black night.

“Enemy attack!!!”

The rcenary in the passenger seat, Kajet, imdiately shouted out loud.

The rest finally ca back to their senses following the sudden turn of events, and aid their guns at the figure,

Boom—

A fierce blaze of light whizzed through the night sky in an instant, piercing through the whole SUV as a violent explosion and the blazing flas lit up the entire night.

Two figures, also clad in armor, quickly strode out from behind the fiery explosion.

“We don’t have much ti; we need to move fast.”

The figure on the left holstered his laser cannon, pulling out a canister of white liquid from his waist, and said hurriedly.

“Alright!”

The earliest figure nodded, also taking out a canister of liquid from his waist, and the three quickly scattered.

Inside the cake shop littered with glass shards, a little girl peeked out through the crack in the wall.

In the light of the SUV’s blaze, the emblem of Stars City emblazoned on the armor caught her eye.

——

Central Park

Vellent looked up at the sky, “You’re well aware that we’re the sa kind of people, you carry the strong scent of Winding Hill.

The reason you recovered so swiftly was the ‘Grace’ of Winding Hill, wasn’t it?

If you are willing to cooperate, then we can share the benefits of this ceremony.”

“Ha…

So, what exactly do you want?”

He Ao suddenly laughed aloud.

“Since you know the locations of the three altars, then you must have also obtained ‘ritual information’ from Winding Hill.”

He Ao’s unexpected laughter rendered Vellent sowhat discomposed for the first ti; he lowered his head to look at He Ao, slightly raising his tone, “You probably don’t know what Winding Hill truly is?”

He Ao watched him, “It seems you’ve collected quite so mystical knowledge, hmm, I’m all ears.”

“Of course,”

Vellent looked again at the ‘purple torch buildings’ ablaze and the distorted lines in the sky,

“Your Talent Sequences must be that of ‘Chess Master,’ right?

You should also know that A-level stands for Angels, and all the materials you can find about Talent Sequences will tell you that A-level is the utmost limit humanity can reach.

But above Angels, there actually exists a higher echelon.”

“Divine Beings?”

He Ao shook his head, “However, this Winding Hill, it doesn’t feel nearly as powerful as a Divine Being would be.”

Hearing He Ao’s words, Vellent subconsciously prepared to refute.

He watched He Ao, seemingly puzzled by how this seemingly not particularly supernatural elderly man could assertively discuss Divine Beings.

Not as powerful as a Divine Being?

Have you encountered a Divine Being?

You’ve t a Divine Being and are still alive, standing here?

Though he thought ‘Cito’ was boasting, he nevertheless composed his words and continued speaking,

“Even if it’s not a Divine Being, it is a Higher Being that lies between Divine Beings and Angels,

“In fact, we are not the first ones to have co in contact with Winding Hill.

So scriptures left by wizards from the Era of the Great Cataclysm believe this Winding Hill might be the tomb left by a Higher Being who lies between Divine Beings and Angels.”

He stared at He Ao, pronouncing each word deliberately, “The tomb left by a ‘Chess Master’s path,’ a Higher Being.”

“Hmm, so what can I gain from this?”

He Ao looked up at him, seemingly a bit distracted as he asked.

“Don’t you want to beco an Angel?

Don’t you desire eternal life?”

Vellent watched him, “Since you’ve been inside Winding Hill, you must have received so ‘inspiration’ about further ascension, right?

Even if not as an Angel, don’t you wish to advance?

Your B-level power doesn’t truly co from within yourself, does it?

Don’t you want to beco a real B-level?”

His voice paused for a mont, leaning forward slightly with a suppressed and excited tremor, “Don’t you want to probe the power beyond Angels, to scrutinize the true Divine Beings, to probe the power of immortality and indestructibility?”

He Ao looked at the elderly man in front of him, who showed a bit of restrained madness, feeling the trembling of Vellent’s Soul, almost in harmony with the twisted lines in the sky.

“Cito, we’re cut from the sa cloth.

Surely, you cannot be oblivious to the call from Winding Hill deep inside your heart,”

Vellent sat up straight, seemingly regaining his composure, or perhaps sinking deeper into madness, “We can collaborate, peer together into this eternal knowledge.

After the success of this ceremony, the gateway between Winding Hill and the world of n will be completely open,

“We can then truly enter the heart of Winding Hill, to seize the treasures left by that ancient Higher Being, with at least a complete set of Talent Sequences stretching from F-level to A-level, perhaps even acquiring Winding Hill itself, and becoming an immortal Higher Being.

“I can share such an opportunity with you; we can go in together, what one gets relies entirely on their own abilities, how about that?”

“So,”

He Ao watched him, “For such an ‘opportunity,’ you created the Pollution Cleaning Departnt and the Evolution Acolytes, spawned the Polluted Monsters, killed so many people, and you still plan to sacrifice this city?”

“Are you here to administer justice?”

Vellent smiled as he looked at He Ao.

“No,”

He Ao extended his hand to his back and slowly pulled out a briefcase from behind, placing it in front of him, “I’m just here to find so justice.”

“Is this the ashes of your lost child?”

Vellent glanced at the briefcase, “That child nad ‘Kavi’?”

At this, he suddenly paused, expressing his doubt, “Your ‘Kavi’, is he really not a clone of Night Hawk?

Are you truly not Night Hawk’s father?”

“Yes, it would be logical for an ‘Angel’ child like Night Hawk to have a father who is both just and strong, fitting with your perception,”

Hearing his question, He Ao smiled,

“The powerful, reclusive father embarking on revenge for his C-level child who was falsely accused and died, now that’s the beginning of a hero’s tale.”

His wrinkled hand gently caressed the briefcase,

“Night Hawk is a good kid, but unfortunately, he’s not my child.

“My child was just one of the naless masses, and I am rely the father of one of these naless masses.

“This city has 3.6 million people, seventy-five council mbers, seven congressn, two senators, ten city cabinet officials, one mayor, up to three B-levels, and up to ten C-levels.

“And among the remaining 3.6 million naless, the death of any one person would not cause any stir.

“In these past decades, countless such naless individuals were killed by you on your pursuit of the so-called ‘eternal power’.”

He Ao slowly stood up, grasping the long spear beside him,

“My child is not Night Hawk, he was just one of the naless, one of the tens of thousands in this city.”

He paused, his aged voice slow and clear, “But he was my only child.”

“It seems we cannot cooperate after all.”

Vellent also slowly stood up, looking intently at the elderly man before him.

He Ao slowly let his cloak fall.

He was still wearing the custom suit his wife had left him, the one ant to be worn for his child’s funeral.

After several battles, the suit inevitably suffered so damage and was stained with blood, but He Ao had kept it well cared for, smoothing out any wrinkles as best as possible and cleaning any dirt as much as he could.

The clean suit lay neatly against his body.

Just like when Cito first wore this suit, and his wife ticulously adjusted it for him.

“A very nice suit.”

Vellent looked at those bloodstains yet to be washed out, then glanced at the briefcase next to him, murmuring with a hint of sorrow, “Quite suitable for a funeral.”

“Indeed.”

He Ao lifted his long spear.

Clang—

Vellent’s hand reached under the chessboard, and he abruptly pulled sothing.

In the dimness of night, sothing seed to appear in his hand, but then again, perhaps nothing at all.

He Ao watched Vellent’s palm; he knew there should be a weapon there, even if he couldn’t see it.

Clearly, it was a Transcendent weapon, and not a weak one.

“Actually, I’m not waiting for Bram,”

Vellent laughed once, realizing that negotiations were unsustainable, his exchanges with He Ao beca much more relaxed, and he looked up at the sky.

Among the towering buildings lit up by the blazing purple flas, the contorted purple lines that filled the sky and danced unceasingly had, at so unknown mont, gradually cald down, tracing undulating forms.

They resembled hills, yet not quite hills, and anyone observing these lines would naturally conjure the image of endless hills shrouded in a vague purple glow in their minds.

This expanse of ‘hills’ hung upside down over the skyscrapers, like a massive and oppressive purple cloud enveloping the entire city.

At this mont, whether they were at the city gate with Bram being dragged into the city, the rcenaries and City Defense Army fighting on the high walls, or the people hiding at ho in anxiety, everyone raised their heads to look at the sky, at the overshadowing hill that enveloped everything.

The skyscraper, turned into a torch, burned fiercely.

The chaotic dance echoing in the void grew louder, and the despair of destruction at the end tis spread with the endless night.

At this mont, a thought naturally erged in everyone’s mind.

Winding Hill had descended.

“You should have knowledge of the ritual in your mind,”

Vellent lowered his head to look at He Ao,

“You should know how much effort I’ve put into getting to this step today.

Just to support the Kajet Group to this extent, to build these skyscrapers at the ritual’s required points, and to engrave the complicated ritual patterns into this city, it’s taken over twenty years.”

He caressed the white hair at his temples and suddenly revealed a self-deprecating smile, light yet carrying a certain repressed madness, “Twenty years have flown by in a flash!

And I no longer have another twenty years.”

“You’ve done more than just this in a single city.”

He Ao replied calmly.

“Of course,”

Vellent, holding that invisible weapon, looked at He Ao, “This is just the first city.”

He held the invisible weapon across his chest,

“Old friend, it’s all over.

The real Sacrifice has begun.

Once the passage between here and Winding Hill is opened, I will receive the feedback from Winding Hill.

Perhaps, if you had attacked directly just now, the outco would have been unknown.”

He smiled at He Ao, “You won the first half, but the winner of the second half and ultimately the victor, is .”

“What do you think I’ve been waiting for?”

He Ao held his long spear, smiling as he gazed at Vellent in front of him.

Vellent’s expression changed.

The anticipated scenario of the entire city beginning the Sacrifice did not occur.

The inverted valley above the city remained, and the purple glow burning like torches atop the skyscrapers had not changed.

But as the conductor of the entire ritual, Vellent clearly felt a severe ‘delay’ in the ritual’s ‘Sacrifice’ phase.

It was as though a gear had been jamd by so foreign object; the gear itself was still trying to turn, but it just couldn’t move past the obstruction.

“What have you done?”

At this mont, a distinctly surprised expression finally appeared on Vellent’s face.

“As you said, I too have knowledge of those rituals,”

He Ao looked at him, raising his spear forward, “and I happen to have a rather diverse education in mysticism, so I added a little ‘obstacle’ to your ritual.”

“Mystical knowledge from ‘K’?”

Vellent stared at He Ao.

He had guessed at the backers behind ‘Cito’ when he knew that the Nolanka Group was involved.

“It seems,”

he gripped the weapon in his hands tightly, his complexion growing colder by the second, a terrifying oppression spreading from around him, “that our battle is next.”

Once Winding Hill descended, the ritual could not be stopped.

He previously had a chance to cancel the ritual and escape, but now that was no longer an option.

Vellent had co to realize that He Ao had also been delaying ti, stalling until he reached this point of no return.

At least one of them had to stay here forever.

He Ao looked at Vellent before him, feeling that almost tangible, dense oppressive force, which even surpassed Deres, beyond any C-level he had encountered before.

He gripped the long spear in his hand, without so much as a frown.
