467: Chapter 467: Life Canon (Big Chapter for Monthly Tickets) 467: Chapter 467: Life Canon (Big Chapter for Monthly Tickets) As He Ao’s features gradually erged from the darkness, a trace of fear slowly crept onto Zadi’s face.
He was just a D-level, completely powerless against a C-level like He Ao who was so formidable that he could kill five Strengthening Potion users in a one-on-one fight.
Suppressing the panic in his heart, he took a half step back and asked warily, “When did you co over?”
“I’ve been here all along,”
He Ao’s face still wore a calm and natural smile.
The next second, a tranquil voice sounded from behind Zadi, “Right behind you.”
Zadi felt the hairs on his neck stand up one by one, a chill running straight up his spine to the crown of his head.
In front of him, He Ao’s figure had long disappeared.
He turned his head slightly and looked behind him, where He Ao’s calmly smiling face gradually entered his field of view.
If He Ao had wanted to kill him just now, he wouldn’t have stood a chance.
Without any hesitation, he activated the injector on his arm, and the powerful potion instantly flowed into his body through his bloodstream.
A faint red glow spread across his body.
He Ao glanced at the injector on his hand and took two steps back, quietly watching the faint glow covering Zadi’s body.
This was the first ti he had witnessed the process of using a Strengthening Potion.
He activated his Divine Sense and observed Zadi’s body, only to see a powerful red energy streaming along Zadi’s arm toward his entire body.
This energy was wildly violent, as if it wanted to destroy everything it encountered, but so substance within it restrained the violence like reins, allowing it to flow smoothly along the body’s ridians, with its released energy beginning to transform Zadi’s flesh and blood.
His muscles bulged at a visible rate, tearing his shirt, the closely packed blood vessels crisscrossing over the swollen skin, giving his entire body an oddly fresh red appearance.
He rapidly grew taller, soon turning into a three-ter-tall giant, his eyes filled with a savage blood red.
To He Ao’s eyes, all these transformations seed slow; he could even observe the details of the changes in Zadi’s body, but in reality, they took very little ti.
In just a second or two, Zadi had swelled from a well-proportioned man into such a three-ter-tall giant.
His stature was even more massive than the captain of the squad that had co to kill He Ao before.
“It seems you are quite arrogant,” Zadi sneered, his voice booming like a bell and making ears buzz, “The mont the potion took effect was your best chance to kill , now you no longer have that opportunity.”
The colossal power filling his body boosted his confidence.
Previously, for fear of the side effects of the Strengthening Potion, he had not used these potions.
Today, being forced to use it, he felt better than he ever had before, the sensation of having great strength and everything under control was intoxicating.
He Ao watched Zadi’s blood-red eyes.
This guy was already beginning to be controlled by the power of the Strengthening Potion.
He showed a smile and slowly said,
“Actually, I’ve always been a law-abiding person, as long as you…”
“Go be law-abiding in hell!”
Zadi laughed loudly, and his two enormous palms suddenly reached out towards He Ao.
He Ao, whose words were cut off, shook his head slightly.
Raising the short sword in his hand, he perford a flourish before thrusting forward, aiming for Zadi’s thigh, where his energy was concentrated.
These actions were thodical, appearing as though they took a long ti, but in fact, they were incredibly fast.
At such a close distance, the sword light, like flowing water, easily pierced through Zadi’s skin that seed as tough as steel, punctured his muscle, and buried deep into his leg.
Smooth, seamless.
The whole process was like following the path of the wind, blending with nature.
“How could this be…”
Zadi’s descending hands stiffened, and his body beca as rigid as a statue.
The force that had supported his massive body unleashed its savage nature at this mont, rampaging within him.
This effortless strike beca his final requiem.
Bang——
Blood and flesh exploded into a curtain of rain.
The silver sword light retracted from the rain, tracing a brilliant path across the sky before slipping into the inner lining of He Ao’s clothes.
The dim streetlight illuminated it all.
In this silent night, terror and beauty rged into one.
He Ao crouched down, picked up the black, oblong device that had fallen to the ground, and gently flicked off the blood-red residue on the device.
This must be an advanced external storage device, probably with its own processing core inside, possibly not much worse than many computers.
Then he walked over to the other side, picking up a large piece of torn clothing, which had seven test tube pockets holding six tubes of red liquid.
Strengthening Potion.
This vial bag seed to be specially reinforced with good resilience, so unlike the other clothes, it wasn’t directly blasted into tiny fragnts.
He Ao put away these two items and slowly moved forward until the pitch-black night completely swallowed his figure.
——
“Dad!”
The mont He Ao pushed open the door, a large figure pounced on him.
“Alright,” He Ao said as he rubbed the head of Ennie, who hugged him, “Daddy is very dirty, let clean up first.”
“Oh.”
Ennie hugged carefully for a little longer before she finally let go.
“Is there sothing to celebrate today, or do you want sothing again?” He Ao joked as he tidied up his clothes.
“The last ti you hugged Daddy so warmly, you were only this tall.”
He Ao indicated a spot just above his knees.
“Not at all,” Ennie’s face reddened, “I just wanted to hug you.”
“My little girl is grown up now, she knows how to be shy.
Daddy will take a shower first.”
He Ao smiled and ruffled his daughter’s head once more before heading into the back room.
The sound of running water ca from the main bedroom’s bathroom.
“Your dad’s back?”
The door to another bedroom opened, and Roger looked up at Ennie.
“Mm-hmm.”
Ennie nodded.
“Have you finished your howork?”
Roger casually asked.
Ennie’s head ballooned.
She hurriedly ran to her own small bedroom, “I’ll go write it right now.”
…
About fifteen minutes later, having had his shower and changed his clothes, He Ao took the jacket he had worn earlier and walked out from the back room.
“How was the haul?”
Roger sat on the sofa and looked at him.
“Not bad.”
He Ao threw the jacket filled with nurous vials onto the coffee table.
He lit a cigarette, holding it between his lips, “Six C-level Strengthening Potions, about thirteen D-level Strengthening Potions, nineteen Life Elixirs,”
Then he pulled out a black, long electronic device from his pocket and tossed it onto the coffee table, “and all the data from the Research Institute.”
The device that Zadi carried also had security verification, but it was nowhere near as secure as that supercomputer.
By the ti He Ao returned, Eve had already cracked it, although he had not yet looked at the contents.
“Seems like you’ve got quite the ‘spoils of war’ this ti,”
Roger opened the jacket and took out a C-level Strengthening Potion, “Is this the thing you ntioned that can directly enhance an ordinary person or a low-level Transcendent to a C-level?”
He pulled out the cork of the potion and waved his hand in front of the vial, “Slls like an exotic beast from the wilderness, interesting.”
“To be precise, this is the physical evidence I found in the process of doing good deeds and investigating evil forces,”
He Ao, with the cigarette in his mouth, watched Roger with amusent, “Can you figure out how to make this Strengthening Potion?”
“That’s difficult,” Roger shook his head, “These specially-made Transcendent potions usually have strict sequencing and proportions for mixing, and it’s very hard to reverse-engineer the formula just from the finished product, but I can try to analyze its components.
Do you need this thing?”
“Maybe I’ll find a use for it,” He Ao said noncommittally, “Understanding what this really is could help avoid so risks.”
“This kind of thing that forcibly elevates strength usually has extrely serious side effects,” Roger, looking thoughtfully at the red liquid inside the vial,
“I’ll do my best to help you analyze it.
I’m quite curious myself how Stars Pharma managed to pull it off.”
“Thanks for that.”
He Ao smiled.
“Right,” Roger seed to rember sothing.
He took out a mini storage device from his pocket and tossed it in front of He Ao, “The complete version of the ‘Life Canon’ you wanted, it wasn’t easy for to get it from my senior for you.”
“Are you giving the Life Goddess Church’s sacred texts just like that?”
With the cigarette in his mouth, He Ao bent down to pick up the storage device.
He had asked Roger to find the Life Canon because the range of characteristics exhibited by the Fountain of Youth bore a strong relationship to ‘life’.
And all content related to the Life Goddess was recorded in this sacred text, unable to be recounted.
“The ‘Life Canon’ isn’t so easy to read,” Roger said as he placed the Strengthening Potion back on the table and looked towards He Ao, “I rember telling you that to read the Life Canon, one must beco a core believer of the Church.”
“Can soone like , who isn’t a Doctor, also beco a core disciple of the Life Goddess?”
He Ao asked casually, while he attached the storage device to his bracelet.
The bracelet read the storage device, but there were no files inside, the folder interface showed a blank screen.
“Of course, the Life Goddess is the most benevolent Divine Being.
She loves all life, and her vision is a world full of vibrant vitality,” Roger said as he stood up slowly.
At this mont, he looked no longer like a re Doctor, but more like a Priest of a Divine Being, radiating holy light.
He Ao tried to have Eve search for hidden files in the storage device but failed.
According to Eve’s feedback, the storage device was just a blank slate, with no data stored whatsoever.
“What do I need to do?”
He Ao looked up at Roger.
“You only need to close your eyes and accept my baptism.
After that, you’ll be marked by the Goddess, becoming the focus of Her gaze,” Roger said as he gazed at He Ao,
“Are you sure you’re ready?
Joining a Church and becoming one of its core mbers ans you must abide by the Church’s precepts, exposing yourself to the scrutiny of the Divine Beings.
You can’t change your faith as freely as a regular believer.
“Although the Life Goddess is a more gentle Divine Being, according to the laws of the Transcendent world, once you form a connection with a Divine Being, it will deepen continually until you are wholly engulfed in the vortex related to the Divine Being.”
“One question,” He Ao looked at Roger, “why did you join the Life Goddess Church in the first place?”
“Apart from the major dical conglorates, only the Life Goddess Church possesses the ‘Truth’ concerning life.
And ‘Doctors’ who are Transcendents, in the end, almost always form a connection with the Life Goddess.
I just expedited the process, that’s all,” Roger spoke calmly.
His implication was clear; as a ‘Doctor,’ he had no choice but to walk this path, but He Ao, not being a Transcendent of the related path, didn’t need to make such a choice.
“Then, do all Divine Beings…
all Deities mark their believers or Priests?”
He Ao asked softly.
“Yes,” Roger nodded,
“However, only the core believers and Priests carry it.
The connection between Priests and Divine Beings is even deeper than that of core believers.
This mark helps the Divine Being quickly locate the believer.
Should the believer act heretically, divine punishnt may even befall them.
“But such a ‘mark’ isn’t always effective; it seems like the Deities can’t always rely on the mark to locate their followers.
Many who have betrayed their Church and joined another can still live normal lives without encountering divine punishnt.”
He spoke softly, “Perhaps this is the rcy of the Deities.”
“Or maybe these Deities simply don’t find it worthwhile to smite a believer with divine punishnt.” He Ao shrugged and casually replied.
As soone who had multiple good friends and experienced divine punishnt several tis personally, he had so profound understanding of it.
The cost of divine punishnt isn’t low either; the Evil God doesn’t have surplus in the pantry.
So that’s why He Ao has a good relationship with the God of Knowledge; it’s willing to descend its projection at its own expense just to see He Ao.
Roger: …
Although He Ao’s statent was sowhat blasphemous, it oddly made sense.
“Cough, cough,” Roger coughed, opting not to continue the topic, instead asking softly, “Are you sure you’re ready?”
“I’m ready.”
He Ao nodded solemnly.
He had been a Priest of the God of Knowledge before.
If the mark were really useful, each ti he started a new Copy World, he would definitely feel his good friend’s warm greetings within five seconds.
He didn’t know if the mark was effective for others, but for him, it was useless.
Once the next Copy World began, he would be a completely new identity.
“You haven’t had any other faiths before, have you?”
Roger looked at He Ao and suddenly asked.
He Ao, under his gaze, suddenly rembered his identity as ‘K’.
It seed that Roger mistook ‘K’ for so sort of secret society, which typically revolves around a Higher Being or exists because of one.
But in reality, ‘K’ had no object of faith because so far, all ‘K’s had been He Ao himself.
If one said ‘K’ truly had a faith, it would be in himself.
He Ao shook his head, “No.”
Roger looked at He Ao with a hint of puzzlent but didn’t ask further, instead he softly instructed, “Place your hand on the ‘Life Canon’, close your eyes.”
He Ao glanced at the storage device in his hand, clasped it slowly, then faced Roger and gently closed his eyes.
In the midst of pitch darkness and haze, he felt a finger touch his forehead.
“The light of life shines upon you, and from now on, we are siblings under the gaze of the Goddess.
All past life ties are hence severed, and only the servitude and pursuit of life shall never cease.”
Roger’s voice sounded both near and distant, enveloping He Ao’s ears like a vast, echoing song.
At the sa ti, a bit of warm power entered He Ao’s body through his forehead.
The instant this power entered his body, He Ao felt the fatigue accumulated from the day’s battles swept away, and his body felt more comfortable than it had ever been.
This power seed to be the most normal divine power He Ao had ever felt.
Following this comfort was a murmur as gentle as the hand of a mother putting her child to sleep.
This murmur instantly sobered He Ao up from the intoxicating comfort.
······
This Life Goddess is normal, but it seems not entirely so.
Roger’s finger moved away from He Ao’s forehead.
“Is it over?”
He Ao opened his eyes.
Originally, as a ‘Nightwalker,’ he had one murmur, and after the baptism, another murmur from the Life Goddess added to his mind.
If one included Super mory’s background noise, his brain was pretty much forming a band.
At the sa ti, he felt that beyond the endless spaceti, he seed to have established a connection with a Great Being.
This connection was so weak that it couldn’t transmit any information; its sole purpose seed to be to inform the connected parties that a ‘connection’ had been made.
“It’s over.”
Roger rubbed his head, “Didn’t expect a ‘baptism’ to consu so much ntal strength, it’s like constructing a ritual.”
“Is this your first ti baptizing soone?”
He Ao asked with a hint of curiosity.
“I am an experienced Priest of the Life Goddess.”
Roger stood up straight.
He Ao looked at him skeptically and then picked up the storage device, attaching it to his wristband.
This ti, sothing magical happened.
In the previously empty folder, an icon of a book appeared.
The book cover depicted a flourishing giant tree.
Even through the screen, He Ao could feel the book’s vibrant essence.
He did not open the book but first asked Eve to check it again.
The result was still no data in the storage device.
He Ao was stunned for a mont, then opened the book.
The pages of “Life Canon” slowly unfolded.
Is this ‘Life Canon’ really in the storage device?
A question erged in He Ao’s mind.
He activated Super mory coupled with Divine Sense for another check, and it seed his soul had not suffered any ‘contamination’.
Is this the power of a Divine Being?
Can electronic devices also intervene?
After pondering for a while, He Ao flipped to the first page of the Life Canon, then glanced at Roger and asked casually, “Have you read this book?”
“It’s all made-up stories to deceive people, not dical knowledge.
Why would I read it?”
“Aren’t you a Priest of the Life Goddess?”
“What kind of genuine Priest reads the Canon?
Isn’t it enough to just hold it for show?
Besides, isn’t the main task of a Priest to bring in believers for the Church?”
“So how many believers have you brought in?”
“Now…
one.”
“…
Don’t you worry that the Life Goddess will get angry with you like this?”
“Don’t worry, the Life Goddess is not like other deities; she’s very good-tempered…”
Boom—
A thunderclap resonated in the sky, and Roger paused his conversation, shrunk his neck, and chuckled, “So what are you looking for in the Canon?
Although it claims to be oracles sent down by the Life Goddess, most of the content is just nonsense made up by the Church later…”
As he said this, he looked up at the sky, relieved to see that nothing was amiss.
“I’m searching for so,” He Ao turned the page, “possibly lost history.”
