However, He Ao carried within his mind the recent mory of Nell in combat; despite the rust, the sword remained sharp.
The corrosion had not penetrated the blade’s core, maintaining its resilience, ensuring it wouldn’t break upon force.
The slow footsteps were getting closer.
He Ao gripped the short sword, glanced left and right, tip-toed, and headed deeper into the alley on the right.
In the direction he was heading, three n clad in cotton overcoats, holding firearms, cautiously moved forward on ice-covered ground.
“Boss, that guy got shot in the chest.
He can’t be alive.
Do we need to be this careful?”
The man on the far left spoke softly.
“Until we see the body, any assumption is just that—an assumption.”
The middle-aged man walking in the center looked up ahead; his face bore a distinct scar from a knife slashing across half his cheek, giving him a particularly fierce appearance.
The alley, long neglected, had no streetlights, leaving only a faint view of the dazzling city lights and a glimr at the end of the alley.
But that faint glimr provided a little illumination, enabling the three n to see the path beneath their feet.
As the scar-faced man looked ahead, a shadowy figure, staggering against the wall, drew closer to them step by step.
The shadow held a longsword that seed out of place in this era.
“Fire!”
The scar-faced man almost imdiately raised his gun, and the two n beside him did the sa.
In that instant, the shadow vanished.
Super mory, activate!
The rusty iron sword pierced through the scar-faced man’s chest, blood splattering out.
“Lit…tle…”
He opened his mouth, trying to make a sound.
But as he did so, the figure holding the ancient sword already withdrew the blade, stabbing another man who was turning his gun, right through his chest.
Everything happened too quickly; the third man couldn’t even turn his gun before his two companions fell.
“Bastard!”
He roared in anger and violently aid his gun at He Ao.
As he was about to pull the trigger, a pair of hands grabbed his forehead and jaw, then twisted gently.
With a soft crack,
his body went limp and collapsed like a deflated rubber toy.
He Ao walked up to the second man, pulled the ancient sword from his chest.
Bright blood stained the sparkling ice.
Spattered blood covered his cheeks, coating his worn overcoat with a sheen of crimson, making him resemble a ghost erging from the night.
Clap clap clap—
Crisp applause echoed from the end of the alley.
A figure erged from the darkness.
It was a man with a commanding presence, standing tall.
His eyes emitted a chanical red glow.
“I ca out as a precaution, to follow up.
I didn’t expect this serendipitous encounter,” he said with a smile, looking at He Ao.
“I’ve reviewed your file.
There is nothing noteworthy about your life history.
In the first eighteen years of your life, you’ve shown nothing beyond the ordinary.
So, have you always been concealing your abilities, or,”
he raised an eyebrow, “is it the Grace of the Evil God?”
As his words fell, a shining radiance sliced through the night, flying over He Ao’s body.
Had He Ao not preemptively dodged, the laser cannon would have pierced his body.
The man spoke, diverting attention while preparing a laser cannon for a surprise attack.
He Ao watched him closely; through Super mory’s vision, he could accurately identify the man’s face.
He was slightly surprised, but it was also within his expectations.
The man who erged from the darkness was none other than the deputy director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation who had just received Nell.
Just half an hour ago, he had maintained a gentle smile, comforting Nell, telling him not to worry or be afraid, that the Federal Bureau of Investigation would uphold justice for him.
“You don’t seem surprised?”
The other party observed He Ao’s expression and said lightly with a laugh, “That seems to indicate that the storage chip you gave isn’t the original, is it?”
He stepped closer to He Ao, “Give the original, and I can make your death…
a little less painful.”
He Ao looked at him calmly, “Have you forgotten the oath you took under the Olive Shield Emblem?”
Every employee officially joining the Federal Bureau of Investigation had to take an oath under the Olive Shield Emblem of the FBI, and Ande had done so as well.
The approaching man’s smile froze for a mont, and he said softly,
“The knowledge you possess surprises , but who really ans it when they swear to protect the Federation, justice, and humanity forever?
Oaths are ant to be broken, aren’t they?”
He raised his hand, and a radiant glow shone in his palm, “Kid, I suddenly don’t want you to die easily.
I will pierce through your abdon, let your bowels flow out of the wound, then cut off your legs and watch you crawl on the ground, struggling with difficulty under the control of your instincts, and finally die in agony.”
He Ao watched the man, as Super mory rapidly constructed a model in his mind.
It was clear that the opponent was using a chanized Body, and people of director level in the Federal Bureau of Investigation usually had D-level or C-level strength.
The Federation had not yet developed C-level chanized Bodies, and Rock City was not large enough to support a C-level director.
So, it was obvious that the man was using a D-level chanized Body, most likely the standard issue from the FBI.
Such bodies had multiple layers of protection for their energy cores, and there were five design styles, each with the core located in a different position and distributed randomly.
He Ao could not afford a prolonged fight, firstly because Super mory had limited ti, and secondly because D-level chanized Bodies had built-in instant communication modules that could connect to the network anywhere within the city.
If the opponent realized that He Ao was strong, it was likely that he would call for backup.
And the backup would only get stronger.
Nell’s body was just of ordinary human quality, and his combat ability was sustained by Super mory, which was currently only D-level, not necessarily able to defeat a C-level enemy.
This was the enemy’s ho field, and the longer the fight dragged on, the worse He Ao’s situation would beco.
He lifted his head, looking at the man in front of him, his ‘sight’ beginning to change rapidly.
Divine Sense.
From the mont the Copy World started, he had sensed the presence of Divine Sense.
Divine Sense, like Super mory, was bound to the soul.
If it could co down with the main consciousness, then it could also enter the Copy World.
Before the Copy World started, He Ao had already anticipated this situation, but when he truly sensed that Divine Sense had co over, he was still sowhat delighted.
This ant that his prediction about the system’s traversal chanism was correct.
However, He Ao was not sure if Divine Sense could see the energy flow of a chanized Body; he looked at the man opposite him.
Faint, transparent glimrs floated within the man’s body, flowing and converging in a certain area of his abdon.
He could see it!
He Ao gripped the Ancient Sword in his hand.
Super mory built a combat model in his mind, while Divine Sense guided him towards the target’s location.
He leaped forward, slicing through the sky with the pitch-black night.
At that mont, a laser burst out of the man’s hand.
Illuminating the entire alley.
Bang—
A crisp sound suddenly erupted.
The dazzling glow gradually faded, and He Ao slowly pulled out the rust-covered Ancient Sword, walking deeper into the alley.
Intense light exploded behind him, scattering machine parts everywhere, and the walls on both sides collapsed down, blocking the alleyway.
He Ao turned off Super mory, supporting himself against the wall as he staggered toward the dark night.
The Ancient Sword in his hand slowly broke apart, revealing the pitch-black core within.
