Noad’s face was still maintaining a calm smile as he slowly rose to his feet, and the underlings in the bar imdiately understood their boss’s intention and pointed their guns at He Ao.
“Mr.
Noad, I’ve heard that a person hit by a laser grenade will have their body cut into pieces by the intense laser beam, leaving no intact corpse,” He Ao inserted his index finger into the ring and pulled it slightly outward, “If you continue to stand up, I can’t guarantee that either of us will have a whole body left.”
Noad’s action of standing up froze halfway.
He Ao smiled, “Of course, you could also guess that this is just a toy, and pulling it out won’t make any noise.
Would you like to stake your life and take that bet with ?”
He slowly raised his head and looked at Noad.
At that mont, Noad finally saw what the teenager really looked like.
Although Noad was old, his professional standards as an interdiary ant he knew every task he handled like the back of his hand.
Joey’s file had passed through his hands.
“Little brother, did you co here to see for sothing?”
Noad’s expression was motionless as he calmly sat back down.
If at first Noad had felt like the youngster before him was just so brat causing trouble, now his heart had gone completely cold.
A person whose parents had died, who had no relatives or worries, and who had been driven to a dead end might do anything.
Moreover, a person who might be being threatened and blackmailed by the Hyena Gang right now, appearing here with a box containing Transcendent materials belonging to the Hyena Gang, implied certain things.
Whatever way this kid had done it, at the very least it proved he was not as simple as the intelligence had indicated.
Once he was finally seated, Noad waved his hand, signaling his underlings to put their guns down,
“Little brother, since you’ve co to find , you should know that among all the interdiaries in Aston District, my reputation, Noad’s, is the best.
You can trust with your commission.”
“My commission is simple; tell who wants dead.”
He Ao looked at him calmly, his index finger slowly pulling the grenade pin further out, the faint and sharp sound of tal scraping echoing in Noad’s ears.
“Little brother must be joking, I don’t know who the employer is either, I’m just a ssenger, an interdiary.
If little brother wants to commission a proper job, then commission it; if not, please leave.”
Noad replied gracefully and composedly, preparing to rise and show the visitor out.
“Oh?”
He Ao responded with a slight smile, not saying much, but still slowly pulling out the ring, his movents not continuous, but pausing slightly after each move before continuing, the intervals between stops going from slow to quick.
And that piercing, distressing sound was like a death knell hamring away in Noad’s heart, ticking toward the end of ti.
Noad watched as the pin was gradually being pulled out and looked at He Ao’s calm face, realizing that this teenage boy had already gone mad, and that he had co today prepared to die.
If the other party couldn’t find a target for vengeance, they would make sure he joined them in death.
Beads of cold sweat erged on his forehead as he looked at He Ao and attempted to put on a kinder expression, “Little brother, your life is still long, there’s no need to end it alongside an old geezer like .”
He Ao didn’t speak, his face still wearing a calm and indifferent smile as if he didn’t care about what might happen next.
Accompanying that smile was the increasingly urgent sound of the pin scraping against the slot.
Madman!
Noad cursed inwardly, looking at He Ao, “The one who commissioned the job related to you is Slanca, living at 175 Crown District Street, number 1701, Slanca.”
“What’s his relationship with the Avis Group?”
He Ao stopped moving his hand; the other end of the pin had now completely entered the slot, barely a bit away from being pulled out.
“He was once an officer in the security forces of the Avis Energy Group.”
Now that he had started talking, Noad didn’t mind revealing a bit more.
“Who bought the Corpse Flowers?”
He Ao imdiately asked, not giving Noad any ti to think.
“Him as well.”
Noad whispered.
“Does he have any special abilities?”
“I don’t know about that, but he’s said to be very strong.”
“Thank you.”
He Ao nodded with a smile then pulled the pin out and tossed the grenade upward gently, and after grabbing the empty box on the table, he leaped towards the door.
“Get down!”
Noad imdiately leaped forward, rolling away into the distance.
This type of laser grenade generally has a dual safety chanism: the pin is one, and grasping it is another.
Once the pin is pulled out and the grenade leaves the hand, it will explode within about 3-4 seconds.
Everyone in the bar instantly dove towards the solid walls, and those who reacted slower quickly hid behind sturdy tables and chairs.
Dirty-faced, Noad rolled behind a particularly durable wall, leaned against it to slowly stand up, and cautiously peered at the grenade that had landed on the floor.
Ti trickled by, but the grenade did not detonate.
After several long seconds—or perhaps more—Noad finally realized sothing was wrong.
“Go,”
Noad signalled with his eyes to one of his underlings.
The underling shrank back but still mustered the courage, with his gun in hand, to approach the grenade and slowly reached out to pick it up.
Then his expression changed for a mont as he lightly shook the grenade and then—he grabbed both ends of the grenade and twisted hard, managing to unscrew it, and white candies scattered on the ground.
“Boss,” he turned toward Noad showing the grenade that was unscrewed in the middle, still with a few candies inside, and said cautiously, “It’s a toy.”
Noad was first stunned, then slowly erged from behind the wall, his pace quickening until he saw the grenade that the underling had split in half.
“F**k,”
Noad spat out and dodged a submachine gun from a man in black next to him as he burst out of the bar’s entrance.
At this mont, there were not many pedestrians on the street; he scanned the area but did not see He Ao’s figure before firing a salvo toward the sky, causing the nearby people to scatter and scream.
“Boss,” the tall black-clothed man also ran out and ca up to Noad, “What do we do now?”
“Search, he can’t be far.
Get everyone, comb the nearby blocks.
If you see him, don’t think twice, shoot to kill, riddle him with bullets.
I want this punk to know what it ans to deceive !”
Noad cursed through gritted teeth.
He had been mixing in the underworld for decades, and yet today, he had been outsmarted by a youngster.
If word got out, he would probably beco the laughing stock of the whole Aston District.
Speaking, he raised his gun and sprayed another salvo into the empty street in front of him.
The bullets flying seed to carry away so of his rage, offering a brief respite from his anger.
Bang—
Just then, a dark, olive-shaped object rolled to his feet.
Noad dumbly looked at the object at his feet, a black laser grenade.
His mind seed to hang for a mont, with the first thought that surfaced being:
Is this another toy?
“Boss, run.”
However, the man in black beside him seed to realize what was happening and grabbed Noad to rush back into the bar.
But it was all too late as the flashing red light accompanied by a piercing alarm rang out in that instant.
In the alley across from Noad, not far away, He Ao straightened his clothes, turned around, and walked deeper into the alley.
A dazzling illumination suddenly exploded, montarily eclipsing the morning sunlight.
The toy grenade was the first thing He Ao had bought from a vendor the previous night; he hadn’t originally planned to kill Noad.
After all, killing soone on purpose is against the law.
But it doesn’t count if you’re striking back when attacked.
That’s self-defense.
