1189: Chapter 1189: Breaching the City?

(Requesting Monthly Tickets) 1189: Chapter 1189: Breaching the City?

(Requesting Monthly Tickets) Minte City · West Gate

The man with glasses raised his head and looked at the barely ajar gate, only wide enough to fit two armored vehicles side by side.

His gaze paused briefly.

At the sa ti, the officer beside him lifted the tablet in his hand, looked at him, and said softly, “Captain, there’s a ssage from the wall.

They said they need soone reliable, soone with authority, to enter the city for discussions.”

“Seems they’re dissatisfied with the price,”

The man with glasses smiled faintly, then said in a asured tone, “Tell them whatever Weiken promised them, we’ll give them the sa.

If they agree, open the gates.

If they don’t, we’ll siege the city.

If they don’t want to negotiate, they get nothing at all.”

“Are we really going to siege the city?”

The officer hesitated for a mont and asked softly.

“When dealing with people like this, you have to show your stance,”

The enormous land fortress halted in front of the ajar gate.

The man with glasses raised his head, eyes settling on the broad, empty Jar City behind the West Gate, and laughed, “The more lenient you are, the more they’ll try to squeeze benefits out of you.”

“What if they really refuse to accept?”

The officer asked hesitantly.

“Then we fight,”

The man with glasses said plainly, “A large part of their gate guards was reassigned by Owai to quell internal chaos.

anwhile, we still have half the steel forces from West.

I’m strong, they’re weak.

Even if we go for a direct assault, they won’t last long.”

“Understood.”

The officer nodded slightly, raised the tablet, and rapidly typed a reply.

The response didn’t co imdiately; it seed there was so deliberation or discussion happening on the other side.

After quite a while, the officer finally received new information.

Boom—

With a faint sound, the tightly shut city gates began to slowly open again, inching outward.

The officer beside him looked up at the man with glasses and smiled, “Captain, they replied, saying they ‘reluctantly’ accept our terms.

However, we can only send a maximum of one rcenary brigade into the city, and they’re not allowed on the city walls.”

As he spoke, the gap in the gate widened to roughly the width of five armored vehicles before stopping.

“Cowards, terrified we might scale the walls, betray our promise, and annihilate them,”

The man with glasses scoffed and raised his hand, issuing orders, “Musicnote rcenary Corps’ First Brigade, follow .

We’re going in.”

The rumbling land fortress slowly started moving, inching toward the open gateway.

At the sa ti, before the man with glasses, deep within the broad, shadowy Jar City, the massive inner city gates began to open slowly amidst booming echoes.

The marching speed of the land fortress was not sluggish, and it quickly passed through the gates.

A line of heavy armored vehicles followed behind it, gradually streaming into the vast space beyond the gates.

Like a triumphant general wielding sharp weapons, barging into another’s ho.

The man with glasses smiled as he gazed ahead, the land fortress continuing forward through the tunnel of the outer gate into an expansive, walled-off area.

This was the Jar City, a buffer zone between the wilderness and the high walls.

In tis of siege danger, this area served as a secondary line of defense.

Now, that defense had been completely bypassed.

The man with glasses raised his head to observe the surrounding high walls.

Atop the walls, several fixed turret installations rotated slowly, seemingly locking onto their movents.

Yet none of the turrets fired; their barrels simply stared calmly at the incoming troops.

So turrets even bore rust marks, evidence of neglect and infrequent maintenance.

The man with glasses took in the sight, a trace of amusent curving his lips.

His gaze shifted forward, landing on the slowly opening inner city gates.

Behind those gates, no lights were illuminated, leaving the scene steeped in darkness.

But the man with glasses knew very well—beyond them lay Minte City.

Ultimately, this city was theirs to ‘take.’

The enormous land fortress crossed the vacant Jar City, steadily heading toward the gradually opening inner city gates.

Minte City · North City

Roaring artillery fire continuously exploded amidst the skies.

Though the dark clouds had descended, not a single snowflake fell beyond the city walls.

The flas engulfing the heavens blanketed the Firmant, burning relentlessly.

As the cha units erged, shadows of missiles began to surface over the towering high walls.

So of these missiles struck flying chas or warplanes performing evasive maneuvers, blasting those graceful instrunts of war into scattered chanical debris.

But the majority of missiles were intercepted by dense layers of anti-air defenses.

So of the intercepting fire ca from the chas and warplanes themselves; others erged from hidden anti-air cannons embedded within the marching forces below.

Above the raging inferno, the massive glowing shell of a colossal machine began inching closer to the city walls.

Its body navigated through the torrents of artillery fire in the sky, encircled by drones that spontaneously fired intercepting rounds at incoming missiles and projectiles.

The turrets on the walls fired continuously, attempting to hit the massive weapon and disable it.

Yet, missile after missile launched into the air was largely intercepted by the anti-air firepower network and then by the drones enveloping the colossal machine.

In the sheer volu of attacks, a few lucky missiles penetrated the multiple layers of defense, landing on the surface of the massive machine and erupting into fierce flas.

But when the flas dispersed, what greeted the watchers was an intact outer shell.

The ferocious missiles had failed to breach the machine’s outermost armor, leaving only faint scarring on its surface.

Inside the operations command room, through the display monitor, Viko stared in stunned silence at the scene, “Its defense is really this strong?”

The wall-mounted missiles capable of obliterating heavy armored vehicles and fighter jets seed powerless against this chanical monstrosity’s ‘skin.’

“The Demon Wolf was developed much later than the Sky Behemoth.

Jiefeier Industry specializes in materials and tals and holds nurous advanced material patents,”

The temporary North City commander standing nearby explained, “Jiefeier Industry claims the Demon Wolf is lighter but offers defense power equal to or even stronger than the Sky Behemoth.”

“So we can’t even break through its defenses?”

Viko’s eyes widened slightly.

“If several chas fire plasma cannons at close range,”

The commander hesitated briefly, then gave a bitter smile, “Or we launch concentrated volleys of armor-piercing missiles, maybe its armor can be breached.”

“Even if we send out our chas, they couldn’t get past its escorts, could they?”

Viko looked at the matrix of drones and chas circling the Demon Wolf, then paused and murmured softly, “And we don’t have enough armor-piercing missiles for saturation bombardnt.”

The commander opened his mouth slightly but said nothing further.

“Look at that; it seems to be descending,”

Suddenly, Viko pointed at the screen, a sliver of excitent in his voice, “Could it be one of our missiles hit sothing critical, disrupting its internal structure, and now it’s malfunctioning?”

The commander followed his words and looked at the central monitor.

On the screen, the enormous chanical entity was steadily descending amidst the firepower network in the skies.

“It looks like it…”

The commander was equally perplexed, “The Demon Wolf’s sales don’t match the Sky Behemoth’s, but its quality shouldn’t be this poor.”

Raising his head, he fixed his gaze on the descending giant and suddenly realized sothing, “No, it hasn’t been ‘shot down.’ I just rembered the Demon Wolf has a specific ‘ground mode.'”

“Huh?”

Viko froze slightly.

The commander wasted no ti in clarifying; raising his hand, he shouted urgently, “How many armor-piercing missiles are left?

Prepare a full volley aid at the Demon Wolf’s escorts.

Stop its actions, now!”

“Acknowledged.

Targets locking in progress…”

A flurry of voices imdiately responded.

The missile launchers on the walls swung open, spewing streams of fla as missiles shot out, blazing like dense raindrops toward the massive machine beyond the gates.

The roaring noises in the sky grew louder and fiercer.

The rapid thundering weighed heavily on each person’s heart.

The anti-air defense network erupted as if possessed, drones near the colossal machine scattering into dense formations to intercept the incoming projectiles.

The cha units weaving nearby rapidly coalesced.

Boom—

Missile after missile detonated in midair, fiery flares igniting like dense drumbeats, bursting into raging clouds.

So missiles bypassed the defenses—the firepower net, the cha matrix, the drone barricades—and finally struck the massive machine’s body.

Sparks of fla burned briefly across the heavy armor, slightly disrupting the machine’s balance and causing it to sway slightly.

But that didn’t halt its descent.

When the machine neared the ground, only tens of ters away, two elongated slots beneath the shell opened gradually.

Then, two folded, slender ‘chanical legs’ extended down, securing firmly to the ground.

From afar, the colossal shell now resembled a giant chanical mollusk with a pair of legs.

The bizarre, comical sight failed to elicit laughter from the command room.

The Demon Wolf had reached dangerously close to the walls; its oppressive mass now lood so large that even wide-angle lenses couldn’t fully capture its intimidating body.

It was utterly colossal, its shadow sprawling over the ground like a cloud.

“By bracing against the ground, it reduces hovering power consumption, while ground conduction offsets recoil during firing, allowing both faster and higher firing rates.

Utilizing the ground for support, with sufficiently strong joint chanisms, it also enables improved maneuverability.”

The commander murmured as he stared at the screen displaying the Demon Wolf’s transformation into its ground mode.

Almost imdiately after securing itself to the ground, the Demon Wolf raised its ‘head,’ directing its gaze toward the incoming missiles in the sky.

A brilliant red beam burst forth from one of its side-mounted cannons.

Boom—

In one sweeping motion, its ‘head’ tracked the beam, detonating all remaining missiles in one fell swoop.

Then, it lowered its ‘head,’ turning it towards the city gates.

From the primary cannon at its center, dazzling rays flared outward explosively.

Boom—

Like thunder rending the skies, the massive city gates trembled violently, causing the entire towering wall to shudder in resonance.
