1177: Chapter 1177: ssage from ‘K’ (Request for Monthly Pass) 1177: Chapter 1177: ssage from ‘K’ (Request for Monthly Pass) Dawn City · Glorious Palace
“You’re still working overti?”
The silver ponytail man pushed open the office door and placed a cup of coffee in front of the desk, chuckling, “The little girl outside made it, said it’s just what you wanted, so I brought it over for you.
Or, would you rather have a young and pretty lady serve you coffee?”
“It wouldn’t be bad if you were a young and pretty lady,”
Christos said with a smile, taking the coffee casually, “Absolute power ans absolute obligation.
There’s no such thing as working overti or not when you beco Mayor.”
He set down the coffee, looking down at the docunt in his hands, “If these bills are to be implented in the form of mayoral decrees, many parts need to be altered; we can actually be a bit more aggressive.”
“Are you really prepared to go down this road?
Even without full legislation, relying solely on mayoral decrees, the stir in Dawn City would cause turmoil across the entire Federation,”
The silver ponytail man picked up a chair from the side and sat opposite Christos, casually grabbing a docunt, “Once you take this step, it’ll be an all-out war with the conglorates.”
“This bill has been stuck here for half a year, we don’t have many half-years left, and besides, I’m already at loggerheads with the conglorates,”
Christos said with a smile, shaking his head, “Once I step down as Mayor, security won’t be as tight as it is now, and I could be killed at any mont,”
He gazed at the docunt in his hands, gently flipping a page, “But at this point, we have no way back.
Half a year has passed, we don’t have many half-years left, the hopes of millions rest on our shoulders, we can’t back down now.”
Hearing this, the silver ponytail man fell silent for a mont, then he turned to chuckle, “Seems I won’t be able to retire and go back to being a professor,”
He paused slightly, joking, “Hmm, whether I can retire alive is another question.”
“I had Penny work on a cha for you.
If things really go south, the newcors from the wilderness will escort you safely out of Dawn City.
I’ve also got in touch with Nolanka Group; they’ll accept you when the ti cos.”
Christos said offhandedly, “You can continue your academic work.
Ideas are the sharpest weapon.”
Upon hearing this, the eyes of the silver ponytail man slightly widened, as he looked up at Christos.
“Don’t be so surprised, I’ve been playing politics decades longer than you have,”
Christos smiled, “You haven’t seen all the dirty tricks politicians play; having multiple fallbacks and being prepared for anything is a basic skill.”
The silver ponytail man was silent for a mont, then asked in a low voice, “And what about you?”
This ti, Christos didn’t reply.
In the silent office, the crisp sound of pages being turned echoed.
Once, and then again.
Hum——
The vibrating buzz of the bracelet broke the silence, Christos lifted his hand to look at the content on the bracelet.
Just a mont later, his eyes slightly widened, seemingly realizing sothing.
“What happened?”
The silver ponytail man, puzzled, looked at the Mayor, “Who’s sending ssages this late?”
“Our ‘old friend’.”
Christos regained his composure and set down his bracelet, speaking quickly.
“He’s appeared again?”
The silver ponytail man startled.
“Yes.”
Christos nodded slightly, and with that montum, he picked up the old-fashioned phone in front of the desk, “This is Christos, connect to Cedar Villa.”
“One mont.”
The clear voice of a woman ca from the other end of the line, “We’ll connect you right away.”
Soon, the call was reconnected, and a robust male voice ca through, “Hello, this is Cedar Villa.”
“This is Christos,”
Christos spoke swiftly, “Is the Legion Commander available?”
“The Legion Commander is here,”
the reply ca quickly from the other end, “Mr.
Mayor, what can I do for you?”
“I’d like to visit the Legion Commander tomorrow, is the Commander free lately?”
Christos spoke quickly.
Hearing this, the one on the other end paused briefly, then said in a moderated tone, “I will need to inquire with the Legion Commander about this.
We will call you back shortly.”
“Alright.”
Christos hung up the phone.
“What’s the situation?”
The silver ponytail man was slightly taken aback.
“It’s probably,”
Christos paused, looking out the window, where the dim stars hung in the sky, and the splendor of tall buildings and neon lights brightened the firmant, “not a good one.”

Minte City · East City Gate
The warm electric stove made the entire office toasty, and a man with a goatee and gold-rimd glasses, looking sowhat shrewd and capable, lounged back in his office chair, leisurely flipping through a book.
He glanced up at the window beside him.
This was no ordinary window, but the flagship ‘Intelligent Window’ launched by Note Intelligence.
The entire glass pane of the window was a screen, capable of displaying almost perfectly realistic ‘outside scenery’ at any ti.
Right now, the view beside the man showed the dimly lit snowfields under the night sky.
Amidst the pure white snowfield, so vague figures and flickering lights were moving— it was the patrolling rcenary Corps outpost.
This ‘Intelligent Window’ was directly connected to the surveillance system of the East City Gate, allowing him to see the wilderness scenery from his office.
“Such a nuisance.” The goateed man picked up the wine glass from his desk, brought it to his lips, and sipped lightly.
He then set down the glass, reaching out to press a key on the desk computer, sending out a ssage that had been long prepared.
His hand slowly slid down to the handle of the desk drawer.
With a ‘ding—’ sound, the drawer unlocked and opened.
He slowly pulled back, sliding open the drawer to reveal bars of gold that shined a bright luminescence under the gleaming light.
He casually picked up a gold bar, revealing the neatly arranged black cryptocurrency hardware wallets beneath.
“Gold, gold, so shiny and glittering,”
He looked down at the book in his hands, shaking his head and toying with the gold bar, chanting in an ancient tone from the era of the Great Cataclysm, “Just a little bit, just this little bit, can turn the living into the dead, the black into white, gold, ah, such beautiful gold.”
Bang bang bang—
The hurried knocking from outside interrupted his singing.

Minte City Wilderness
Bang bang bang—
Inside the huge land fortress, a bespectacled officer was seated, seemingly deep in thought.
The crisp knocking sound roused him from his reverie.
A tall young man picked up his pace as he walked towards the officer and handed over a small encrypted tablet, “Captain, we’ve just received a secret communication.”
“Where did this secret communication co from?”
The officer was slightly startled, sat upright, and took the tablet from the young man’s hands.
“It seems it was sent from inside the city.”
The young man speculated.
“From the city?”
The officer lowered his head, unlocked the biotric lock on the tablet, and looked at the information inside.
A slight smile curled at the corners of his mouth, “These dirty, lowly civilians, they’re not all useless after all.”
He looked up at the young man, “Has this ssage been sent to the West Iron and Steel rcenary Corps in North City?”
“Yes,”
The young man nodded, “They said they received the sa ssage.”
“Watching both ends, he even took care of the West Iron and Steel side?
This guy is a bit greedy,”
The officer shook his head, “But as long as he can get things done, none of this matters.”
He slowly stood up, looking at the young man in front of him, “Pass down the order, first thing tomorrow morning, all troops prepare for mobilization.”
He raised his gaze, looking through the window at the imposing walls outside, “Prepare for the siege.”

Kaye City·Nolanka Building
The silver-haired elderly man was hunched over a large desk, quietly flipping through the files on the desk’s display monitor.
They were all new design schematics for exoskeleton armor.
Ding—
Just then, a call notification appeared on the screen, the caller being ‘Fiss’.
The Commander of the Nolanka rcenary Corps.
The elderly man raised his hand and answered the call.
“Mr.
Danilo, the rcenary Corps has received an intelligence report from a corporate convoy that returned from Saint Joen City,”
As soon as the call connected, Fiss got straight to the point.
“Hmm?”
Danny was slightly puzzled, “Why would matters concerning the corporate convoy be reported by the rcenary Corps?”
“Because the rcenary team responsible for the convoy’s security sent soone back to Kaye City taking a shortcut, directly reporting to through the Corps’ channels,”
Fiss rushed to say, “Back to the main point, our people saw traces of a large rcenary Corps movent in the area north of Saint Joen City.”
“Large rcenary Corps?”
Danny was a bit startled, “Wait, which consortium’s rcenary Corps?”
“Don’t know,”
Fiss replied promptly, “Judging from the traces sent back by the convoy, there might be more than one rcenary Corps involved, or rather, more than one ordinary rcenary Corps.”
He paused, his gaze on the puzzled elderly man,
“Our intelligence departnt has reviewed the nearby news and announcents, and there’s no ntion of any consortium moving rcenary Corps in the vicinity.
However, in several cities to the west and north of Saint Joen City, there have been different consortium rcenary Corps active recently.”
“So, what you an is,”
Danny was beginning to understand, “these rcenary Corps have no public tracks and are gathering for large-scale movents?”
“To be exact, they’re intentionally hiding their tracks,”
Fiss said briskly, “The place where the traces were found by the convoy is not on a normal trade route.”
“Not a regular trade route, how did they find them?”
Danny was puzzled.
“That was a small trade convoy,”
Fiss explained leisurely, “They were delayed, and taking the normal trade route would cause further delay, so following a suggestion from the corporation’s main system, they chose a relatively safe shortcut.
That’s when they encountered traces of those rcenary Corps.”
“Eve’s suggestion, huh?
She seems to give such suggestions,”
Danny was slightly taken aback, then he nodded thoughtfully, looking at Fiss, “What do you think these rcenary Corps are headed?
Could they affect Kaye City?
Could it be Evis Spatial System’s forces?”
“It’s still unclear,”
Fiss shook his head, “They seem to be heading northeast.
I’ve already dispatched a reconnaissance team to scout along that route,”
He paused, his voice softer, “Based on the current data and traces, their target doesn’t seem to be Kaye City; they appear to be deliberately bypassing us.”
“Deliberately avoiding us?”
Danny was surprised, then his brows knit slightly, “This isn’t good news.
Do they think we would stop them?
Is their target one of our allies?”
