First Salary of the Hunters Association

The general examined Alex’s expression, seeing that he remained attentive to her words, she continued.

"How people awaken and beco hunters is still a mystery, but as ti passes our knowledge on the matter has been deepening each year that passes."

She made a small pause in her words.

"The awakening is not only a random occurrence but also carries so dangers," the general’s words sounded as if she were speaking of herself, a pain flickered in her eyes.

"There are two types of awakening," she pointed at Alex and said softly. "You are in the first awakening group, simple, fast, you awaken with an authority and when you reach level 20 you acquire a class and continue leveling."

She then pointed at herself before continuing to speak.

"I belong to the second group of awakened ones, I wake as a hunter gaining a class simultaneously with my authority."

The general’s eyes shone with a montary coldness that chilled Alex for a mont.

"And when the awakening process ends you discover that you are no longer human, you gain a great power at the cost of your humanity."

The general ran her slender fingers along her pointed ears, her words echoing through the entire room.

"However, few survive the awakening of the second group, there is an internal struggle between the human lineage and the new lineage that aims to alter your species, if you do not die imdiately, you enter a coma until your life is extinguished at so point."

The eyes of Alex widened for a mont when he asked, realization in his eyes.

"My mother is trapped in an awakening of the second group? Is that why she has been in a coma for so long?"

"Exactly," the general intertwined her fingers.

"And what must be done in these circumstances?" Alex asked, looking at the general with anticipation in his eyes.

"Star level." Only two words ca out of the general’s mouth, confusing Alex.

"Star level, what does the general an by that?"

"The only way to take soone out of the coma of the second group awakening is to raise the person’s star level. All who awakened from the coma and beca lineage hunters did so with at least three star levels."

The general thought a little about her next words, for she also had difficulty believing them, but she spoke anyway.

"Your mother is on the verge of awakening as a hunter without a star level, just like you. In these circumstances, she would already be dead for belonging to the second group of awakened ones."

Alex’s eyes contracted slightly; he opened his mouth but said nothing, keeping his attention on the general who continued her words.

"Most likely your father must have done sothing so that she would live, this is the only viable way for her to be alive and not dead, if at least..."

The general wanted to say sothing more but stopped at the end and continued her explanation.

"If we raise your mother’s star level, she will awaken as a lineage hunter just like , and just as happened in my awakening, she will lose her humanity."

The general spoke as if the fate of awakening as a lineage hunter were worse than remaining in a coma or even dying.

"She will be like the general?"

Alex’s question pulled the general out of her montary daze; she shook her head.

"Not exactly, there is an infinity of foreign races in which she may awaken, but no matter which, she will lose her humanity."

Alex closed his eyes for a mont, absorbing the general’s words.

"How do I raise soone’s star level?" Alex asked, his voice sowhat trembling.

"Haven’t you done that before? Why are you asking?" The general huffed, giving Alex a look.

Alex thought for a mont before rembering; he had indeed done that. Well, in truth, it had been an accident, to be honest he had raised Mimi’s and Mónica’s star levels.

"I have to obtain evolution stars to raise my mother’s star level to complete her awakening?"

The general nodded affirmatively, raised three fingers and said in a grave tone:

"You need three evolution stars to complete your mother’s awakening process, and even if you succeed, the person who awakens may be different from the person you call Mother."

Alex ran a hand over his smooth chin, taken by the gravity of the general’s words, but he still needed to know.

"How do I obtain evolution stars? Félix said so double dungeons offer stars, but they are so rare that only one appears each decade."

The general shook her head gently.

"Counting on double dungeons to obtain evolution stars is not viable, you may wait your entire life and never succeed, but there is another way."

Seeing that the general had interrupted her words, Alex asked, his heart accelerating a little.

"Another way? How?"

The general sighed heavily and said sothing that made Alex’s body tremble in place.

"The Earth of 3025"

***

Alex left the general’s room with his head hurting. He did not know how long he had remained in there.

"What is it, Your Majesty?"

Félix gave Alex a look as he threw himself onto the sofa in his command room.

"I’m exhausted, did you resolve the matter of the task force?" Alex asked with his hand covering his eyes.

"Of course, who do you think I am, after all?" Félix said, smiling hurriedly.

A week passed quietly, and Alex found himself once again at the Hunters Association.

"You look very happy, how was your weekend?" As usual, Alex handed a bag of sweets to Félix.

"Do you know what day it is today?" Joana asked, sharing the sa cheerful mood as Félix.

"Monday, the 5th, what about the date? Is it so holiday or sothing like that?"

Alex wondered if, in this reality, the 5th of December had so aning. Stopping to think for a mont, from the mont he set foot in the Hunters Association, he had encountered this festive atmosphere; everyone seed to be in a good mood, which was strange since today was Monday.

Before Alex could continue to torture his brain, Arnaldo, the Saint of the Sword, answered Joana’s question.

"Today is payday, that’s why everyone seems happy on a Monday." Arnaldo’s smile seed radiant as always.

"You cleared three dungeons last month, how much did you earn, Your Majesty?" Félix’s eyes seed to be shining.
