Walking closer to the cell bars, Zain just had to make sure what he was seeing was right, that the person standing on the other side was Wendy, the Zombie Hunter. She wasn't just any Zombie Hunter, but one of the first that Zain had ever co across, and at the ti, she could have easily killed Skittle.
However, after seeing Zain trying to protect Skittle, she had lied to her allies and allowed the two of them to escape. He never quite understood her actions back then, but as he thought about it more as ti passed, perhaps not everyone had gone crazy with fear in this new world.
"I displayed a great set of skills, hoping that the woman in the dress would request a eting with ," Zain thought. "Then, I could have maybe used her sohow, to get more information, or even as a hostage. She seed quite important, but this woman, she won't help much since she's just a simple Zombie Hunter."
"I can see you're quite disappointed to see ," Wendy said. "But I'm sure you're interested in how your friends are doing and how you got here in the first place. Why don't the two of us have a private conversation?"
Wendy tilted her head to the side to see just behind Zain and could see Dart with a big smile on his face, hearing every word.
Wendy decided to move towards the corner of the cell they were in, and Zain did the sa. Since the others could see they didn't want to be heard, they had decided to move the other way. Since it was a Zombie Hunter Zain was talking to, the last thing they wanted was to end their life faster by doing sothing that she didn't like.
"Alright, so are you going to tell , tell why you wanted to speak to , or what happened to ?" Zain asked.
"Honestly, I'm not too sure myself what happened to you, but I can give a pretty good guess," Wendy replied. "I'm sure you have figured it out, but this place is a betting ring, run by the Zombie Hunters.
"Everyone in here is a contestant, who is sent out from ti to ti to do battle. Sotis, it's against high stage zombies, sotis it's against demons. As for those that you saw on the second floor, those are the Zombie Hunters' very special guests.
"They aren't from the city and are from the outside world. People with great wealth or in high positions. When making bets, they are betting for supplies to be brought in to the Zombie Hunters: weapons, food, dicine, things we need.
"While they bet amongst themselves with cash and money, things that are still exchanged on the outside. For you, you must have caught soone's eye. And when they captured you, they brought you here because they thought you would be a good participant."
Zain had guessed all of this was the case from everything he had heard. What surprised him was that all of those in his cell must have already fought before, which ant they had survived sothing he had gone through. If that was the case, then they had to be sowhat strong.
"That makes sense, but I wasn't caught, at least not on purpose. The fact that the others aren't here must an they are safe," Zain mumbled.
"I thought as much," Wendy replied. "I saw you at the military base at that ti. I didn't think you would be caught, and not so easily. You're different from the ones that co in here. You have been looking for a way out of here ever since you set foot in this cell, right?"
Zain didn't say anything. Why would he? He was trapped in here, and she was the enemy.
"You asked before why I ca to see you, right? So why do you think I ca here to talk to you?" Wendy asked.
"The answer is obvious, you want sothing from ," Zain replied, but he was still unsure what in the current situation they were in.
"This whole operation is being run by the Zombie Hunters, but it wasn't permitted by the Zombie Hunter leader. It's a side business they have. They have been running it under the nose of the leader, whether it's just to earn extra power or at so point overrun the main base of the Zombie Hunters, we don't know.
"I was sent here to gather a report on them, but they have been keeping a strict eye on . I'm unable to leave this place and report back. So if I can't leave this place, then I wish to take it down."
This was a surprise. It seed that although the Zombie Hunters were one large organisation, like an empire and such, when a group got big enough, there would be factions that went against each other.
It did make Zain wonder, though, who was the leader. At least they had the foresight to investigate this matter.
"As you can see, I'm stuck here. How do you plan to even get out of this place?" Zain asked.
"There is one way," Wendy stated. "We would have to cause a pretty big ss and would need to do it the next ti you get called out. You rember that white-haired hunter that was making all of the announcents? His na is Tack. He is the one that's been running this whole thing.
"You see, he has the ability to sowhat control others. It's how he is able to keep the other zombies and demons at bay. I don't know exactly how he does it, since he hasn't done it to any of the contestants.
"However, he's always out on the field. If there was so way to make him accidentally fall during a fight, or maybe even purposely kill him, the control of the demons and zombies on the other side would stop and they would be free to roam. That will be your chance, and my chance to escape."
Working with a Zombie Hunter was sothing Zain never expected, but for now, it was an option for him.
"I like the sound of making this place a bit chaotic," Zain replied.
