But the way he stared at Shu Pan was so intense that it made her feel uncomfortable.
“Mm-hmm, I went out with Xiaong for a bit,” Shu Pan replied, as restrained as ever.
Gu Shaoting nodded in approval, “Right, this way you won’t be bored.”
Shu Pan furrowed her brows slightly, then said, “I still stand by my opinion—I want to work.”
Gu Shaoting’s expression darkened instantly, his face showing no emotion, “The kids need you, this ho needs you, and if you’re bored, you can go out to relax. Even if you want to work, you can go to Gu Group. Didn’t you use to work there before? The outside world is perilous now, and I don’t feel at ease about you.”
Gu Shaoting explained his reasons to Shu Pan, hoping she would understand that it was for her own good.
She had been out of society for years now, she simply didn’t understand what it was like.
“I know you an well, but I still want so space for myself,” Shu Pan persisted.
“Are you saying I restrict you? That I don’t give you space?” Seeing Shu Pan’s firm attitude, Gu Shaoting suddenly felt a surge of anger.

“It seems like you’re just so bored that you’re indulging in wild thoughts. Going to work for another company—away from my protection—is that the space you want?” Gu Shaoting felt she was being quite unreasonable.
Shu Pan looked at him with a mournful expression, remaining silent.
“Fine. If that’s what you want, go ahead. I hope it gives you the space you’re looking for,” Gu Shaoting said, before picking up his jacket and heading to the porch to change his shoes and leave.
The door slamd, snapping Shu Pan back to reality.
