Chapter 1122: Chapter 1121: Angry

Actually, Shu Pan’s heart felt like it was drumming inside her chest, as it was none of her business after all.

“I’ll try my best,” Shu Pan said uncertainly, “but I can’t guarantee success. Here’s what we’ll do: give your phone number, and if he wants to see you, he’ll call you.”

“Okay, thank you,” Ding Manli said, imnsely grateful. Then she quickly wrote down her number and handed it to Shu Pan.

“I should get going then, you should head back too,” Shu Pan said, checking the ti. It was getting late, and she was nearly late.

Having said that, she turned around and entered the company lobby.

All day, Shu Pan was busy. After all, she had taken a leave of absence, and many tasks that weren’t particularly urgent had piled up.

Finally, there was a mont to stop and take a sip of water.

When her mind was finally clear enough to think, she suddenly rembered the beautiful woman she had t that morning. She hadn’t yet taken any steps to contact Director Lu on her behalf?

Checking the ti, she saw it was almost noon. Director Lu probably wasn’t too busy at this hour; after all, it was close to quitting ti.

She stood up, casually picked up a folder, and then took the elevator to the floor where the CEO’s office was located.

She glanced around – not many people were in sight – so she greeted the secretary and said she needed to see Director Lu.

Although the secretary found it strange that it was her who had co up, she rembered that Director Lu had always treated Shu Pan quite well, so she helped knock on the door of the CEO’s Office.

“Co in.” Lu Lei’s voice ca from the office; his voice was deep and resonant like cello music, very pleasant to the ear. Shu Pan entered, rather tense, and greeted Lu Lei.

“Is there sothing you need?” Lu Lei frowned slightly.

“Yes, Director Lu, this morning at the entrance of our company, I t a lady who claid to be an old acquaintance of yours, and she asked to relay a ssage,” Shu Pan said while watching Lu Lei’s expression.

Sure enough, he looked utterly bewildered, “What old acquaintance, what’s her na?”

Pretty much all his friends had his phone number, and he had few female friends to begin with.

“Her na is Ding Manli, and this is her number.” Shu Pan handed over the piece of paper as she spoke.

Upon hearing the na, Lu Lei’s face imdiately darkened as if he were about to lose his temper, “I don’t know this person. If you see her again, don’t ddle.”

Shu Pan’s heart tightened upon hearing this; indeed, the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

She saw that Lu Lei did not glance at the paper; he simply threw it into the trash can.

A wail of distress echoed inside Shu Pan’s heart; this day was turning out to be a string of misfortunes.

“Director Lu, I’m sorry for the trouble, I understand now,” Shu Pan quickly apologized.

She had a hunch that Lu Lei did know that woman, but their past interactions had not been pleasant, leading now to a complete cut-off in their relationship.

“It’s fine, you can go now,” Lu Lei’s mood was clearly impacted.

“Okay.” Shu Pan left, carefully closing the door behind her.

Anyway, she had fulfilled her obligation to that woman. As for Director Lu’s reaction, there was really no way she could have predicted it.

After Shu Pan left, Lu Lei stood up, walked over to the floor-to-ceiling window, and let out a cold laugh to himself.

What was Ding Manli trying to accomplish by reaching out to him now?

Perhaps she believed the alimony had been insufficient. Considering the disgraceful thing she had done, she could have ended up with nothing, but he had been quite generous with her, given she was Xin Xin’s mother.

Thinking of Ding Manli now, Lu Lei was like one looking at a stranger, unable to stir even the slightest ripple in his heart.
