The cold above ground didn’t affect the underground storage at all. Xiu Yan helped Ji Nuan down into their own storage, where the temperature made Ji Nuan feel like it was spring in her previous life.
Xiu Yan held a small torch in his hand. Ji Nuan followed him to the innermost corner, where she stored her crisp sweet fruits.
Xiu Yan moistened his lips, his slender fingers pointed to the crisp sweet fruits on the pile of earth ahead. "There are so many sprouts now, didn’t you say that these crisp sweet fruits can’t be eaten anymore once they start sprouting?"
Ji Nuan gestured for Xiu Yan to crouch down. The light from the torch illuminated this small area. Green sprouts were clearly growing from the crispy sweet fruits, bringing joy to Ji Nuan’s heart.
She turned her head excitedly towards Xiu Yan. "This ans the crisp sweet fruits have started to sprout. We can now plant the sprouting fruits in the ground, and we’ll have a lot of crisp sweet fruits in the future."
Looking at the animated face of the young female, Xiu Yan felt a relief. Ever since Manli was executed, the young female was sowhat depressed. Now she finally has sothing to cheer her up, and Xiu Yan couldn’t help but break into a silly grin.
The two beasts spent the afternoon moving so soil from outside and spread the mountain-like crisp sweet fruits on the pile, sprinkled a bit of water, and covered it with a layer of soil.
After patting the dirt off her hands, Ji Nuan felt incredibly relaxed. She looked at the pile of crisp sweet fruit seeds with delight, humming proudly to herself: "Farming makes happy, farming brings joy!"
"Anuan? Anuan? Are you there?...Huh, where’s the beast?" Qi Mo’s voice ca from the yard. Ji Nuan quickly climbed the ladder and peeked out.
"I’m here, Qi Qi. What’s the matter?"
Qi Mo, startled by the sudden voice, turned to see Ji Nuan slowly erging from the ground.
"You scared ! How did you suddenly co up from underground?" Qi Mo pursed her lips with a startled look, patting her chest.
Ji Nuan chuckled: "I just went to the storage to check on the crisp sweet fruits. Why are you looking for now?"
Qi Mo scratched her head: "Little Pipi has a bit of a fever. I took her to Grandma Shaman and got so bitter water for her to drink. When we were leaving, Grandma Shaman asked to call you to her place."
Ji Nuan was taken aback but soon nodded: "Okay, I got it. Thank you. You should go back and take care of Little Pipi. I’ll co over to see you guys tomorrow."
As she watched Qi Mo vanish at the entrance of the yard, Ji Nuan sighed, turned around, entered the house, washed her hands clean, changed into a clean beast skin garnt, and headed towards Grandma Shaman’s house.
By the ti she arrived at Grandma Shaman’s house, Uncle Ge Xing was already sitting on the kang bed, munching on dried fruits. Grandma Shaman kept casting him dissatisfied glances but didn’t slap him like she used to.
Her eyes shone with a glint of joy, the wrinkles on her face seed much smoother. Seeing Ji Nuan enter, she quickly waved her hand, "Little Ji Nuan is here. Co, sit."
Ji Nuan smiled, took off her beast skin shoes, sat on the kang bed, then turned her gaze to the relaxed-looking Grandma Shaman.
Aunt Shaman laughed, "Are you wondering why I called you here?"
Ji Nuan obediently nodded.
The smile on Grandma Shaman’s face widened. "It’s because I’ve received a revelation from the Lord Beast God. The cold season is about to end!"
