Special Investigation Team office area, conference room.
At the end of the long conference table in the center of the room, near the door, there are several thick folders placed.
In the chairs next to the conference table, Michelle and a female agent from the IRS sit face to face, carefully reading the docunts on the table to check for any discrepancies or issues.
At the other end of the conference table, Luo An is sitting with a middle-aged Caucasian man chatting over coffee, both of them with smiles on their faces.
The visitor is Luo An’s acquaintance, the Team Leader Elr from the IRS-CI (Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation Departnt).
However, the title of Team Leader dates back to 2005. Stepping into 2006, Team Leader Elr successfully advanced and has now officially been promoted to one of the supervisors.
In a place like the IRS, where money talks, climbing the ladder over others cannot be achieved without substantial achievents backing you.
The achievents that supported Elr’s advancent were naturally the cases that Luo An brought to him last year – the Chief Financial Officer abduction case, the Villa girl disappearance case, and the Judge hotel gym murder case.
While the number of cases wasn’t high, they involved a substantial amount of money, which allowed the then Team Leader Elr to bring in a significant amount of tax revenue.
At the end of the year, during the performance comparison and audit among colleagues, Team Leader Elr overca his rivals and despite resistance, ultimately secured the supervisor position.
Having successfully ascended, Supervisor Elr couldn’t possibly forget Luo An Greenwood, the Head of the FBI Special Investigation Team who had helped him imnsely. He wanted to contact Luo An to express his gratitude as soon as possible.
However, at that ti, Luo An was busy with other cases and didn’t have ti, so Supervisor Elr didn’t impose and instead postponed his visit to a ti when Luo An was less busy.
From the mont he entered the Special Investigation Team office area and saw Luo An, the smile never left Supervisor Elr’s face, and his eyes were filled with warmth when looking at Luo An.
This scene made the IRS female agent wonder if Luo An and Supervisor Elr were relatives because Elr was known for his stern and tough deanor at the IRS, with smiles being extrely rare on his face.
"You are too kind."
Accepting the high-quality tea gift from Supervisor Elr, Luo An’s face was filled with smiles.
Elr’s promotion was sowhat unexpected for Luo An, but upon reflection, Luo An realized that it was indeed a blessing.
The IRS’s reputation at the federal level goes without saying – every year in movies, various governnt departnts like the FBI, CIA, and others might be portrayed negatively, but never the IRS. This alone speaks volus about the IRS’s image in the hearts of federal citizens and its influential status.
IRS-CI (Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation), being the VIP of this departnt, now with Elr being one of its supervisors, maintaining a good relationship with him as the Head of the FBI Investigation Team would undoubtedly be far more beneficial than harmful.
For instance, during future investigations of certain cases, when encountering particularly tough obstacles, as long as the situation and approach are appropriate, a call to Supervisor Elr would definitely yield his assistance in resolving small difficulties.
The connections within IRS-CI are not sothing that ordinary people could have.
Or rather, most managent personnel in other federal law enforcent agencies don’t have such connections.
The atmosphere between Elr and Luo An during their chat was very harmonious, and after a brief exchange of pleasantries, Supervisor Elr took out an invitation with a whimsical design from his pocket and said with a smile:
"By the way, the day after tomorrow, which is Sunday evening, I am hosting a coming-of-age ceremony for my eldest daughter. This invitation was handmade by my younger daughter."
The coming-of-age ceremony is a distinctive and intellectual tradition in the Federation.
In ordinary Federation families, adulthood ans independence, part-ti work, and then paying rent and als to their families; so children move out altogether.
In middle-class and wealthier families, the coming-of-age ceremony is more a social status event, signifying from that day onwards the child becos an adult and needs to formally assu family responsibilities.
Being invited by a parent to participate in their child’s coming-of-age ceremony dinner signifies an extrely close relationship between the guest and the parent, indicating a very good friendship.
Although Elr has been promoted to supervisor, he did not adopt a condescending attitude towards Luo An and still intended to interact on the basis of friendship.
Similar to Luo An, Elr also wished to establish a strong relationship with Luo An.
On one hand, in the future, Luo An could potentially bring him cases involving significant tax revenue, assisting him to climb even higher.
On the other hand, Luo An has excellent case-solving abilities, backed by support, and given his youth, he has a bright future ahead, likely surpassing even Elr, who should consider not only for himself but for his next generation.
"Truly a lucky girl."
Luo An received the invitation with a smile and then casually chatted about Elr’s two children.
Supervisor Elr and his wife have two kids, the elder daughter who ca of age this year is more stable, and the younger daughter who will go to middle school next year is quirky and quite mischievous.
"Rest assured, I will definitely attend that evening."
Luo An had nothing scheduled for that Sunday night, and imdiately expressed that he would not miss it, then added with a smile:
"I hope the gift I bring will be to your daughter’s liking."
Giving gifts is also a federal tradition, where typically the recipient opens the gift on the spot to express thanks, and children from ordinary families might return it if they do not like it, without offending the giver.
"Luo An, being so young and handso, surely my daughter will like the gift you bring."
Supervisor Elr laughed heartily, and the two engaged in light conversation on other topics. A few minutes later, Michelle approached them, nodding her head to indicate there were no issues with those several docunts.
"OK."
Upon hearing this, Luo An’s smile broadened, he reached out his hand and shook hands with Supervisor Elr:
"Thank you for your hard work this ti."
"It wasn’t a hassle at all."
Supervisor Elr stood up, his eyes squinting, his smile filled with sincerity:
"Pleasure working together!"
"Of course, a pleasure!"
Their handshake was firm, they looked at each other and laughed, exchanged a few words, and Supervisor Elr left first with his team.
Once Luo An and Michelle saw them off, they turned back to the Special Investigation Team office area, and Mona, Chenier, and others gathered around, with Reesi curiously asking:
"Luo An, what did Elr co here for?"
"Elr has been promoted, rember to call him Supervisor Elr next ti."
Luo An fetched a folder from the conference room, gently tapped Reesi on the head, and then smilingly said:
"He ca to the Special Investigation Team today to give us a gift, of course!"
Reesi held her head, puzzled, while Mona, Chenier, and Winslow also looked confused.
The ’gift’ Luo An ntioned refers to the previous case - The Judge’s Hotel Sniping Incident (Chapter 398), where after being solved, the companies and assets under Trevian Sheffield, and the illegally obtained earnings were auctioned and distributed.
Normally, the process of auctioning these criminal assets takes at least a year to start, and two to three years might be more typical.
However, with Elr’s successful promotion to Supervisor, in a spirit of reciprocation, he led IRS agents, working overti to process and sell off those criminal black assets and apportioned the Special Investigation Team’s share.
Supervisor Elr ca to the Special Investigation Team today to deliver money.
According to the previously agreed arrangent, the backstage manipulator, Trevian Sheffield’s criminal black assets, after being auctioned, are divided with Special Investigation Team taking 44%, Supervisor Elr’s share at 31%, and Departnt of Justice’s Cecilia’s investigation team at 25%.
The Special Investigation Team received a total of 4.84 million US Dollars.
In addition, in terms of value from Trevian Sheffield’s criminal black assets processed and confiscated by IRS, exceeding 11 million US Dollars, IRS-CI took 60%, Special Investigation Team took 40%.
This 40% constitutes about 900,000 US Dollars, combined with the earlier 4.84 million US Dollars, Special Investigation Team’s total earnings from that case amounted to a substantial 5.74 million US Dollars!
