The room next to them, was a small conference room, but at this mont Reesi was in no mood to check the layout of the conference room, as the forensic team hadn't arrived yet and the bodies of the five victims were still in the room.
So as soon as Reesi turned her head, she slled an indescribable scent of burnt at.
"Fu-k!"
Reesi quickly covered her nose, her face looking extrely unpleasant.
"You go retrieve the surveillance footage of this building first."
Luo An showed no particular reaction, casually assigning Reesi's task, and then pulled out gloves from his pocket to put them on before slowly entering the still-warm room.
The sll of barbecue in the room was even stronger, seeing that Luo An's facial expression didn't change at all, Detective Bailey and the several NYPD officers outside showed full respect on their faces.
First carefully inspecting the room's main door, Luo An then walked over to the side of the five bodies, starting to carefully check their condition.
Underneath two of the bodies, there were so fragnts; Luo An shone his flashlight on them, and his brows imdiately furrowed.
Not long after, the relatively slow-driving forensic officers finally arrived, and Reesi returned after finishing retrieving the surveillance footage:
"The surveillance in the building's corridor hasn't been completely installed yet, I could only get the exterior building footage."
Holding a laptop, Reesi showed the screen to Luo An, saying:
"In the five minutes before the alarm was triggered, only this guy was seen leaving from the building's back door."
The surveillance footage captured a man in a grey suit and a black and blue hat, hurriedly running away from the building.
"Male, quite thin."
After watching the video, Luo An quickly summarised:
"His left hand was continuously covering his right hand, indicating that his right hand is probably injured, or possibly he grabbed the item he was after there."
"That's right."
Reesi nodded, and then asked:
"So, Luo An, what have you found here?"
Hearing this, Luo An directly handed her the fragnts he had found beneath the bodies.
"This is..."
Taking the fragnts, Reesi examined them carefully, sowhat uncertainly saying:
"Parts of a bottle?"
"Specifically, fragnts from a homade incendiary bottle."
Loudly signaling to the forensic officers to collect all the fragnts from the ground for lab testing, Luo An scanned his surroundings, resting his chin in his hand and said:
"Judging by the scene, before the cri occurred, the councilman should have been chatting with the four students.
Suddenly, the door was kicked open, and the incendiary bottle was thrown into the room.
The room is not big and is quite enclosed, plus the fire started burning from the doorway and middle of the room, so the councilman and the students quickly lay amid the flas."
Not only that, the room's main door was also locked, and there were traces of incendiary bottle fragnts in the corridor.
Even if soone managed to open the door and run out of the conference room, they would have been burned alive by the flas in the corridor.
After listening to Luo An's description, Detective Bailey's eyes flickered with a hint of surprise, while Reesi's face slightly changed.
How serious was the grievance between the murderer and these five victims?
"Let's go find the staff from the governnt building."
Patting Reesi on the shoulder, Luo An took off his gloves and left the room, saying:
"Get a list together of everyone who could have access to this conference room."
"Okay."
Reesi nodded, quickly following him with her computer.
——
The next day, Investigation Group 5.
"I'm very sorry, agents, this case has had such a massive impact, the mayor has even called to inquire about it, so we have no choice but to work overti on Saturday!
But don't worry, the overti pay will definitely not be forgotten and will be transferred to your bank accounts afterward."
At the front of the office area, Augustus shouted loudly, stomach protruding.
After William distributed folders to everyone, he turned his gaze to Mona, and said:
"Let's go over the profiles of these five victims."
"OK."
Mona nodded, tapping on the keyboard, and loudly introduced, while looking at the computer screen:
"Four college students, two males and two females, nad Vini, Nickel, Kaianna, and Vinea, all from New York Alfred University Business School, with six months left until their graduation.
The other victim, a councilman, was nad Emmanuel Bain, 56 years old, a Republican, in his first year at a council seat in New York City Council."
"Wow."
As is well-known, New York has always been a stronghold of the Democratic Party, with 2.8 million Democrats versus only 500,000 Republicans.
In New York City Council, Democrats hold 51 seats, while Republicans have only three.
Thinking about this, Luo An said:
"So, we can tentatively assu that the target of the killer was Councilman Emmanuel Bain."
Luo An confird the next main direction of investigation, Augustus did not oppose, and continued to ask:
"Mona, can you find any adversaries of Emmanuel?"
"That's too easy."
Mona smiled slightly, tapping on the keyboard, and quickly pulled up Emmanuel's political leanings and the content of his statents:
"Our Councilman Emmanuel bills himself as a guardian of federal traditional values.
Therefore, he opposes feminism, opposes abortion, opposes gun control, supports white supremacy and white nationalism, supports church schools, and advocates for market freedom..."
After hearing Mona's introduction, aside from Luo An, all the agents rolled their eyes in unison, and Augustus nodded with a pat on his stomach:
"Very good, it seems like a majority in New York are his enemies."
Silence for a few seconds, Augustus turned his gaze towards Luo An.
Seeing this, Luo An didn't hesitate, and imdiately asked loudly:
"The fragnts submitted last night to Forensic Evidence, have the results co out?"
Reesi hurriedly nodded, replying:
"The results are out, and your judgnt was correct, those items indeed were homade makeshift Molotov cocktails, using gasoline.
Regrettably, the forensic team didn't find any fingerprints or DNA on those fragnts, so we cannot find the identity of the killer within our internal database."
Luo An's expression unchanged, continued to ask:
"Reesi, the list you ntioned last night, and Emmanuel's recent itinerary, what's the situation?"
"No problems found."
Reesi handed over the list of personnel who could enter that eting room to Luo An, then added:
"Yesterday, Emmanuel first gave a speech at Brooklyn District square, then visited several communities to comfort the public, and finally returned to the governnt building, where he was interviewed by those four college students."
Luo An nodded, studied the personnel list for a while, then looked up at the agents and said:
"Everyone, next we need to carefully check surveillance footage of areas around the Brooklyn Governnt Building, absolutely need to know where the man in the gray suit went after leaving the building!
Additionally, the personal relationships, emotional states, and financial situations of those four students also need careful investigation!"
"No problem!!!"
Although the workload was vast and sowhat scattered, William and several technical agents still nodded loudly in agreent.
Luo An nodded in satisfaction, turned to look at Reesi and Lei De, and instructed:
"You two will next visit the family of Councilman Emmanuel and the relatives and friends of those four students, to see if you can find so useful clues in their words."
"OK."
Lei De and Reesi agreed, and turned to walk into the equipnt room, dropping their folders.
Seeing this, Mona asked, raising her head:
"So what do we do next?"
"We are going to find him!"
Handing over the list in his hand to Mona, Luo An pointed to a na on it.
"Who is this?"
"Besides those four students, he's the last person who t Councilman Emmanuel before he died."
