First was a sword with a sharp edge, its handle made entirely out of gold.
The second item was a glass filled with green liquid.
Once Xavier’s hand made contact with it, new windows popped out.
[Wolf Iron Sword, Grade - Common.
Forged with iron and reinforced using wolf fangs. It is simple and crude but effective enough to help a non-evolved warrior survive the apocalypse.
Strength 10, Agility 15.]
[Wolf Blood Recovery Potion
Grade - Common. Brewed from diluted wolf blood and wild herbs. Instantly heals any minor injury and can even work as an antidote against mana poisoning.]
A smile unconsciously appeared on Xavier face. Finally, he had gotten his hands on a proper weapon. With this, he no longer had to rely on the crude iron bar.
The potion was also handy. Although after each level-up his body returned to its peak state, a healing potion wasn’t going to hurt anyone.
"Hmmm... now I’d better keep moving. The fight just now is bound to attract even more attention. I’d better find a safe place to hide."
With that, he turned away and started moving, only to stop.
Because of his movent, the green healing liquid inside the potion shook.
His eyes unconsciously narrowed. A sudden attack might damage the bottle.
Just as he was thinking about how to keep the potion safe, he suddenly rembered sothing.
"Right, I got the so-called inventory for reaching within the top hundred thousand..."
Xavier clapped his palms together tightly in excitent. Because of the chaos of fighting, he had almost forgotten about such an important thing.
With that thought in mind, he let out a low sigh and called out, "Inventory."
Imdiately following his command, the world in front of his eyes rippled, and a blue window materialized quietly, glowing faintly in the dim light.
A large squarish window with ten empty rectangles floated silently.
[Inventory 0/10]
Xavier wasn’t a genius, but even he understood that he could store ten items inside.
"Hm... this is more than enough."
He let out a satisfied sound.
Without further ado, he thought about placing the fragile glass bottle inside. Instantly, Xavier felt space warp slightly, and the bottle disappeared. One of the empty boxes inside the inventory filled, and an icon of a healing potion appeared on top of it.
"Good... very easy to use."
After placing the potion away, his gaze landed on the shining sword, his eyes turning strange.
"Although the iron bar is crude, it is helping kill zombies just fine..."
As soon as this thought reached his mind, he also placed the sword within the inventory.
"Now let’s head upstairs... there should be a way leading to the main exit from above."
Xavier thought, rembering that each of these watchtowers were connected with the main entrance for quick deploynt of troops in case of a riot.
His gaze unconsciously wandered back to the corpse of the grey wolf. Blood coming out of the monster’s eye sockets had ford a large pool.
Now that his life was no longer in imdiate danger, and the montum developed by the streak had vanished, Xavier could think straight.
Did he really just fight this monster?
Why did he take such a risk? What if he had made a mistake and died because of it?
Countless frightening thoughts surfaced one after another. He couldn’t imagine how heartbroken his parents would be if they ever found out about his death, especially his little sister.
"Why should I fight alone... if only there was soone who could fight on my behalf..."
Xavier muttered out loud.
Wait a minute... Abyssal Queen Zerin!! His so called Familiar.
Although he didn’t completely understand the chanics of their relationship, as his familiar, shouldn’t she fight for him?
The more he thought about it, the more sense it made.
He had no good opinion of her. In their very first eting, she had dared to treat him like a dog. The slight discomfort he felt toward being treated as a servant by another being flared up again.
Although he didn’t know where she was right now, his instincts told him that if he wanted, she would have to appear, whether she liked it or not.
With this thought in mind, he commanded, "Co out, Zerin."
At his words, the air fell silent. The only sound was that of blood flowing out of the grey wolf’s body.
...
A few monts ago, on the watchtower’s rooftop.
"Millie, what were you thinking... staring into the air like an idiot?"
"Don’t you know the situation we are in? The present world has fallen. One wrong move and it will all be over."
Aron’s eyebrows were tightly scrunched together in a frown as he stared deeply into Millie’s eyes.
Millie seed to be lost in her own world, not paying attention to his words at all.
In the distance stood Jackie, another young woman with a beautiful face, and a man dressed in an extrely luxurious suit, a slightly chilling look in his eyes as he saw Aron getting so close to Millie and even grabbing her hand.
Samuel knew about Aron’s feelings for Millie, but he didn’t like the way Aron got close to her. For him, Millie was his sole property, and in this changing world, not just her but every woman he once desired belonged to him.
After all, who could stop him now? He was no longer just rich, but powerful as well.
Unaware of his thoughts, Jackie took a step forward and said in an urgent tone, "Both of you, cut it out. We don’t have ti for this. Before sunset, we need to get to the nearby military base. I have so friends there. We might even be able to reconnect with your family."
Just at this mont, the floor beneath their feet suddenly shook, as if struck by an earthquake.
Upon sensing this, Aron and Jackie exchanged glances, worry clear in their eyes.
"What was that...?" Risa muttered anxiously, her pale face turning even paler.
Samuel heard her words, his eyes flashing with a predatory gleam. Using this as an opportunity, he hurriedly grabbed her hand and gently pulled her closer.
"No need to worry. It was just an earthquake..."
He had barely finished speaking when a terrifying howl ca from below, shaking the hearts of everyone present.
Aron’s expression chilled.
"It’s that wolf... it’s trying to get inside..."
