Elias held the sword, surprised by its weight despite its size. It was heavy, but it felt perfect in his hands. He might have had more ti to appreciate the sword if he hadn't heard its panicked thoughts.

"What's too late?" he asked, genuinely confused. Before he could get a response, he felt the ground trembling beneath him.

"We're dead! Absolutely, positively, stone-cold dead!" the sword complained, barely refraining from cursing. "You've awakened this irritating thing!"

Elias also ca to a realisation, that it wasn't the ground which was trembling. Instead, it was the skeleton itself that was moving.

"Was this sword so kind of seal that kept this Beast of Decay in place?" He felt his balance shake, as the giant skeleton started rising.

By now, things had beco truly complicated. With the Beast of Decay standing, its true height was revealed. As Elias stood on the skull of the Beast of Decay, he was already hundreds of feet high, but after the skeleton rose, that distance beca thousands of feet.

anwhile, back in the forest, the battle between the two Professors intensified. Despite the ferocity of their fight, neither of them was wounded. The sa could not be said for their surroundings. The forest was being destroyed by their attacks.

"Why do I feel like I've forgotten sothing?" Grey wondered, blocking an attack. "Well, if I forgot about it, it can't be that important."

"Didn't no one tell you about before you ca here? You fool, run!" the Sword scolded Elias, who barely managed to regain his balance. "Now that the seal is broken, even if you put back, it will be no use."

Elias didn't answer. It was true that he hadn't been inford about this sword. Was this another intentional ss created by the Professor? The more he thought about it, the more frustrated he beca.

"I wasn't inford about you, or this skeleton. I thought it was dead," he said. "But even if I had known everything, I still would have taken you."

Even if the sword was being used for a seal, he still would have taken it for the ego it possessed. The only difference would have been that he would have done so on his way back, after receiving a Soul Pet and completing his evolution.

At this mont, he was utterly unprepared.

"Wait, why isn't it attacking us?" Elias had prepared to jump down when the skeleton would have tried to attack them. But to his surprise, the Skeleton Beast didn't look like it had any intention of attacking him.

It was simply walking away from the Forest of Fables.

"Hmm? That's strange." Even the ego of the sword agreed with Elias, finding it confusing. It had fought this Beast of Decay with its master. It knew the kind of monstrosity this thing was. So why wasn't it attacking them?

"Could it be that it has been in the state of partial death for such a long ti, that its mories are damaged? That would explain why it's not attacking us. It's only moving on instincts," the Ego thought out loud, buzzing with relief.

Even if Elias was as old as its master used to be, the ego didn't think that he would've been as talented as its master. If it was with its master, it wouldn't have to worry about dealing with the Beast of Decay. But now that it was with this new brat, it didn't feel as confident in battle.

"Kid, your luck is through the roof. You should be glad that this Beast seed to have beco retrded. If not, both of us would've been fcked today."

"Where did you even learn to speak like that?" Elias asked, looking at the sword weirdly. As the ego's voice kept appearing in his head directly, he couldn't even focus on his own thoughts.

He was trying to decide if he should attempt to jump from this height, which had a decent chance of hurting him. The Beast of Decay might also see him if he were on the ground.

On the other hand, if he didn't jump down, then he could simply wait here. It wasn't half bad, since it ant his trip into the Land of Fables would take a much shorter ti.

Even if the Beast of Decay was moving on instinct, it was definitely going deeper into the Land of Fables, which was also Elias's destination. The beast was indirectly helping him, by giving him a lift.

He pulled out a map that had been given to him by the Painter to see exactly where they were going, and which of these two options were better for him accordingly.

"Of course I learned it from my master. Though I'm ashad to say that I couldn't even learn one percent of his speaking skills." Elias heard the sword's thoughts just as he started focusing on the map.

"And who was your master?" Elias casually asked while trying to find the Forest of Fables on the map to have a reference point.

"Heh, my master is a truly great person," the ego told Elias, like a fan talking about their idol to those who couldn't care about their idol in the least.

"He doesn't seem like a great person if he abandoned you here. I'm amazed that you still don't seem to hate him." Elias subconsciously mumbled, as his finger stopped at the Forest of Fables on the map, finally finding a reference point.

If he was an ego, and he was abandoned in a place like this for such a long ti, then could he really respect that owner? He didn't think so. Still, it was none of his concern at this point.

He kept his focus on the map. Based on the direction of the Forest of Fables from his location, he finally had the perfect orientation of the map.

"Hmph, you know nothing!" The sword started trembling fiercely in Elias's hands. "I'm sure he must have made a na for himself in the outside world. You just have to escort back to him."

"What was the na of his family... it's been so long that it feels like an eternity has passed already." As the ego kept speaking, Elias was truly starting to have a headache. "Ah, right. It was…"
