....

After returning to his mansion, Elias summoned Lyra, and offered her a glass of water.

"It is safe here. No one will hurt you."

"Why?" Lyra asked, looking at Elias. "He didn't hurt anyone in his life. He even saved you! So why?"

She grabbed Elias by his collar and scread, "Why was he killed?!"

Her gentle deanor from before was nowhere to be found. The mont she grabbed Elias's collar, an electric current coursed through her body, originating from the contracted mark on the back of her neck.

She subconsciously released his collar and fell on her knees, crying in pain. Her painful cries echoed across the room, filled with her sobbing as she let out her pain.

Elias remained unmoving, gazing at the girl. There was only one answer to her question. The old man was killed because he tried to snatch freedom, which he wasn't allowed. He couldn't get himself to tell her that answer.

It was also partially his own fault, as he had overestimated the intelligence of the old man, never expecting him to do sothing so foolish.

It was because he had opened the gateway to the academy, which allowed the old man to rush to his death. If he hadn't done that, the old man would still be alive. And Lyra would still be living with him, despite being contracted to him.

He was partially to bla for what happened, but he didn't truly regret it either. Deep down, he knew that if he was given another choice, he would have done the sa thing again.

He didn't expect that old man to do sothing so stupid. There was no reason for him to sacrifice his own freedom for that old man. Even if they had helped him, he couldn't forget everything to stay behind.

He took a deep breath, and maintained his silence. No matter what he said, it wasn't going to change anything. So he left Lyra to co to terms with her emotions and left her in silence after putting the bottle of water on the ground.

"There are so things that we can't change. The faster you learn it, the longer you might be able to live." Only a few sentences were left behind, as he disappeared within his shadow.

....

The lab room was filled with the occasional sound of clanking of materials, and a pen moving roughly across a page.

A man was lying on the patient table, peacefully sleeping for over a day. As the effect of the forceful sleep started running out, his eyelids twitched.

He slowly opened his eyes, but his eyes felt heavy. He tried to run his eyes, and ca to a realisation that his heads were tied through chains to the table. He couldn't even raise his hand.

"What?" He turned his head, and saw soone in the distance. The person's back was facing him as he wrote sothing in a diary that belonged to Dreke.

"What are you doing?" Dreke asked the person who was also wearing his white robe while playing with materials that he shouldn't even be touching.

"You are awake." The person stopped writing, and kept the beaker in his left hand in place.

He turned back, revealing his face to his elder brother. "Your sleep was longer than I thought. Were you having good dreams?"

"What do you think you are doing?" Dreke pulled as hard as he could on the chains. Even if the chains were strong, they couldn't hold him back.

After his second evolution, his strength had long surpassed what re chains could restrict. At least that's what he thought, but the reality hit him hard. The chains didn't even crack, let alone break under his force.

"Brother, you should save so energy. The chains are not going to break. I prepared them accordingly."

"What do you want from ?" Dreke asked, his resistance growing weaker. "Do you want to apologise to you or sothing? Because this thing has gone too far already."

"Not far enough."

Dreke heard the response, while Elias picked up a syringe on the table. The syringe was completely filled with an unknown liquid that even Dreke couldn't recognise without touching it.

"That's enough! If it's about my behaviour towards you, then I am sorry! Don't do sothing foolish that you might regret throughout the rest of your life!"

The resistance that had grown weaker, beca stronger again. Dreke used everything he had, even if it ant breaking his bones when he saw Elias co closer with the Syringe.

"You don't have to be scared of it. It won't kill you." Elias grabbed Dreke's shoulder and pulled hard on it, dislocating his shoulder to weaken so of the resistance on the arm.

He stabbed the syringe in his arm, and pushed the entire liquid in his arms before correcting the dislocation.

"What did you put inside my body?!" Dreke asked, feeling strange. Even though his virus resistance was strong, he could still feel that unfamiliar sensation spreading across his entire body.

"Just a little sothing to keep you busy for two weeks or so. After all, I can't let you die before we get there. But I also don't want to let you be bored here. That's why..." Elias fell on his knees before the table, so that Dreke was on his eye level.

He smiled brightly, but for Dreke, that looked like the smile of a maniac, sothing that he couldn't associate with the Elias that he knew.

"Have fun, brother." He lightly tapped Dreke's forehead before standing up. He walked away, and left the lab.

"You! Why are you doing it? I never really hurt you! Why?! My mother will never let it go! You will pay for it! Elias!!! I will kill you myself!"

Cries ca from inside the lab that could be heard even outside since Elias was yet to close the door. The cries were filled with pain that, despite the virus resistance, made Dreke feel like he was in living hell.

The door slowly closed, and the painful cries were locked within the lab, being silenced.
