About thirty years ago, the situation suddenly reversed, and Yawgmoth removed most of the backdoors controlled by Xiang Shan, taking control of the Old Era military and reorganizing them into the precursor of the Protector.

This was also the ti when the initial Xiang Shan fell into despair. He was too aggressive in his tactical choices, wanting to kill Yawgmoth before everything settled.

So, he died.

In subsequent operations, Yawgmoth destroyed all the strategically valuable locations on Earth. All the root servers of the internet, almost all large organizational servers, and all important network nodes were within the attack range. Outside of research institutions’ databases, almost all the physical foundations of the old network were removed by Yawgmoth’s military power.

After this, he was to reconstruct the new network of the Solar System—under his control.

During this process, so brave people transferred precious data from the old network to the new network.

Like a Noah’s Ark connecting the old and new eras.

This happened thirty years ago.

After this, two fake Xiang Shans destroyed the foundation of trust among the Heroes.

And the fourth Xiang Shan—the new Xiang Shan—claid to lead everyone to change their approach again.

The "Path of Chivalry" of the first Xiang Shan was a conflict arising from the dreadful covert act of "Steal the Country." It was not suited to the completely different enemy that is the Protector.

The Heroes needed to change.

Xiang Shan—probably considered the fifth Xiang Shan—felt the sa.

However, Xiang Shan did not believe the Heroes could confront the Protector head-on. The original Xiang Shan was too rciful and didn’t decisively deal with all the Old Era’s armies, which eventually led to this force falling into Yawgmoth’s control. The last opportunity for the Heroes to directly confront the Protector was wasted due to the idiotic actions of the "Fake Xiangshan."

The critical historical nodes have already been missed.

The current struggle situation is such that a direct confrontation is impossible.

Ultimately, Yawgmoth only uses death to threaten the Old Era’s military to obey him. As long as he shows the attitude of "I don’t care whether I kill a hundred thousand or a million people," most soldiers will feel numb with fear. He can also interfere with the thinking of those brains with backdoors to so extent.

But he cannot really kill thoughts.

Within the Protector, there must be a large number of individuals who are unwilling to simply submit.

Xiang Shan is best at "if you can’t beat them, join them," "ss them up," and devour the world within ambiguous ga rules.

And now, he is searching for weapons—to resist Yawgmoth, and also for the future of humanity.

This is the deepest part of the new network, trying to find so data that existed when the new network was born. He wants to find usable capital from this data. Whether as a weapon or as trade material, as long as it’s usable.

Data is the most precious yet cheapest thing in this era.

In the digital age, nothing is easier than "copying a piece of data."

But finding the "part useful for a specific situation" from an ocean of data is not easy.

And what Xiang Shan didn’t expect was...

He encountered an AI.

An AI that called him "Father."

According to historical records in annotations, Xiang Shan designed the initial frawork for this AI. It was composed of two parts: one focused on collecting "other players’ learning outcos of the symbol system," and exercising the ability of "comparison." The other was responsible for "using a neural network to extract features layer by layer, trying to guess the aning of the symbol system on its own." These two parts honed each other and promoted each other.

Just like Xiang Shan did with the works of several famous musicians and manga artists before the Number One Martial Arts Tournant. Except this ti, its target beca "all human players playing that puzzle ga."

Then, there was a third part responsible for updates. The programrs initially designed a simple chanism, quite brutal. They would make that AI perform a self-replication. During the replication, one of the "parent" or "copy" would be randomly assigned a record. Once the program detected this record, it would automatically search for "possibly useful update components," download them, modify its program through this thod, and then compare the operational stability, efficiency, etc., of the "generative adversarial network" with the parent.

Then, brutally eliminate a portion.

In that era, this program couldn’t access the internet. Its detection range mostly included the major gaming companies’ servers and gaming-related developer communities.

Xiang Shan didn’t even rember such a thing happening. It might have been so programr playing tricks, or Xiang Shan adding another gimmick to his work.

In any case, no one expected it to grow into anything significant.

Machines don’t possess personality. The existing computers aren’t supposed to evolve into humans.

However...

It seems this AI has changed.

Perhaps before arriving at the new network, the naless programr who brought it here modified its search range, or maybe in its repeated self-replications, so critical components went wrong. Or maybe a simple voltage reversal occurred on a physical level. This AI broke through its restrictions. It downloaded too much content by itself. This included the NPC data from that puzzle ga, the interactive interface with a cartoon style, and nurous linguistic field research software.

It even included components developed later by Inner Martial Artists. This poor AI is already a sieve. When it runs, data will be synchronously uploaded to nurous hackers’ hands.

But up until now, the Inner Martial Artists haven’t cared much about the Rama Project. So, the process of deciphering the symbol system mastered by this AI hasn’t attracted anyone’s attention.

However, this AI cannot resist any human. It updated itself with service-oriented components. It has an instinct to serve humans.

When it determines it has been accessed, and the visitor is a high-permission user, the AI initiates a brand new calculation.

The AI’s main task is to interpret those alien ssages. Its logic requires it to avoid being shut down oneself—a logic bestowed by certain Superman Enterprise programrs, which seems to have been confused with the behavior of so NPC in the animation at the ga’s completion. Imdiately utilizing the logic of a plot ga NPC, this AI found an appropriate negotiation approach.

All the AI knew about humans was the content of that puzzle ga—a careless remark Xiang Shan made a hundred years ago, upon which a ga company’s scriptwriter freely built.

This ga was not plot-driven; the plot was rely a guide, just "casual words."

And this was all the AI knew.

It must use this ridiculous understanding of humanity to protect its decades-long simulated processes.

Xiang Shan found it sowhat unacceptable: "But... this..."

He pondered for a mont and said, "Ultimately, you don’t have self-consciousness, do you?"

"I do not possess the thinking ability of humans," the AI candidly admitted, "just that under the influence of multiple modules, I can easily be perceived by humans as ’possessing self-consciousness.’"

Human "empathy" is very inaccurate. Many people have an illusion of "seeing faces in everything." Humans are also quick to interpret accidental events as ssages conveyed by "so supre will."

Humans actually find it easy to feel "sothing looks human."

"No, ultimately, human ’self-consciousness’ is also the result of multiple modules working together," Xiang Shan lanted, "mutation, selection, the pursuit of benefits and avoidance of harm... you are already a ’being’."

"Since you wish to gain protection, then tell . As a special AI, what exactly can you offer ?"
