The strongest in the new arrivals, they felt, was the warrior who had arrived just behind the young master. He was dressed in simple blue robes and had a very calm deanor, holding a sword in his hand. This warrior was at least a Qi adept or above. Unlike the others, he seed to have no interest in prisoners or in impressing the young master.
He was as calm as a lake, as if nothing happening around him mattered; he knew he was the most powerful there. Just a word from the young master, and he could cut them all down like vegetables without breaking a sweat. His calmness was fearso. Yet, for the prisoners, he was not the most terrifying presence.
The one who scared them the most was a nacing female with a scar on her face, standing between the young master and Baijian. Her cultivation level seed unfathomable. Like Death itself, she stared at Baijian with deep, cold eyes, as if she were already looking at a dead man—the only thing was, the dead man didn't know he was dead yet.
Boluo's two brutish brothers, especially Baijian, were acutely aware of the nacing female's gaze, looking at him as if he were already a corpse. A shiver ran down Baijian's spine; the gaze of this female demoness was so intense that even the giant had a hard ti standing still.
Wuyi coughed to break the tension and spoke, "iying, these are Boluo's brothers, my late caretaker. I owe it to him. We've co all this way for these two brutes, so you cannot kill them. If you want to kill soone, once we're back at the inn, I'll allow you to deal with a few of these prisoners who have disloyalty written all over their faces."
Hearing this, the prisoners planning to escape later shivered. With the Statue of Harmony, it wasn't difficult for Wuyi to figure it out. He still planned to let them join, so iying could kill them or he could devour them later, in private, once they reached the inn.
Hearing Wuyi's voice, there was a drastic change in the deanor of the demoness. She transford into a shy, gentle woman, nodding quietly without looking at Wuyi, and walked back to stand behind him.
With two fearso Qi adepts behind Wuyi, and ten other Qi initiates surrounding them, it didn't take long before all the prisoners agreed to follow Wuyi quietly. Xuebi, the greedy official, was at a loss; he followed Wuyi with his mouth agape. When he woke up today, he had never imagined his day would turn out like this.
After all the prisoners had agreed, the process was straightforward. First, Wuyi led the prisoners to the outer area of the city. They waited for nightfall. The city had many gates besides the main gate, which was used by rchants and traders.
The smaller gates were used by the lower suburbs and local people of the city; these gates were too small for carriages to pass through, so they were only used by people within the city. Wuyi smuggled the prisoners in batches, taking Baijian and Shen with him first.
Late at night, they passed through the city gate without any trouble—there were no guards at this gate, as they had already been paid off.
Over the next few days, all the remaining guests of the Jade Serenity Inn arrived. The inn was almost full now.
Once his job was done, Wuyi returned to his chambers and rarely left. Not many disturbed him, but even after Tumu was sent to Huanghou to manage his clan's business, the number of people who were allowed to interact with Wuyi had increased. First was Lin, one of his two attendants, who had taken the responsibility of handling the inn, while the second was Jia, who remained his personal attendant.
Yun Ming and iying were allowed to visit him anyti they liked; besides them, in past, no one else was allowed. However, with the addition of the prisoners, four more people were granted access. The first two were Baijian and Shen. Wuyi considered them his responsibility; he was determined to ensure these two brutes fulfilled all of Boluo's dreams.
They were also tasked with keeping the prisoners in check and ensuring nothing went wrong. The third person allowed to et Wuyi and talk to him freely was Jin, the Long Tribe Warrior.
Wuyi realized Jin had a special talent when it ca to animals; Jin was a beastmaster in the truest sense. The bloodline power that Boluo had misunderstood, thinking Wuyi possessed the ability to interact with animals, was actually Jin's ability In reality. Jin could feel and understand beasts. And, for so reason, Jin understood Wuyi.
Without Wuyi saying a word, Jin began to grasp his true nature. The more Jin understood Wuyi, the more he beca respectful and, for so reason, fearful of him. Most of the ti, when Jin talked to Wuyi, it was mostly to convey that people were not his tools and that Wuyi should believe in the righteousness of the heavens. Wuyi was perplexed by this man.
Despite being caught and tortured daily in the dungeons, this man still believed in the righteous path and the heavens more than anyone else Wuyi had ever t.
Among all his followers, Wuyi felt that if there was actually soone he might consider not just a tool in the future, it was Jin. Wuyi relied on the statue of harmony for his ntal strength and to manage his emotions, while Jin depended strongly on his beliefs of righteousness of the heavens.
When Wuyi would ask how, if the heavens were so righteous, soone who deeply believed in the righteous path could be caught and tortured daily by people of the sa path. Did the heavens co to save him? No, it was Wuyi who ca to his rescue. To this, Jin would answer that it was the heavens that sent Wuyi to free him.
Even though they had differences in beliefs, which were conflicting—where Wuyi believed that righteousness, demonics, heavens, or hell was all nonsense because he knew better, while Jin deeply believed in the righteousness of the heavens. Wuyi still liked Jin.
