"May your journey be blessed, do visit again"
I walked out of Braun's general store, wearing the ring of alteration that I had purchased. This ring had the magical power to alter one's appearance based on the power of the gem. Yes, it has a preset inside it. My one happens to have light blue hair and amber eyes.
I even bought so clothes that complent my looks, I can't just go around in a hooded cloak that would seem more suspicious and I ought to be questioned like that. So, being an everyday random adventurer would be much better, showing my face and all.
I doubt the guards would be able to recognize since I did shed so of my weight off, leaving the saggy skin aside.
For the clothes, I went for a brown tunic along with a grey trouser giving a more commoner feel. Now, I just have to get a good and thin blade that does not exactly represent a rapier and so armor, I can't just wear the steel-plated boots and armguards.
So for now I will just get a normal set of iron armor—not very strong or weak and quick on the feet. It was good for my fighting style which was based on agility and lightning magic. I even bought a storage bracelet for storing the old clothes and equipnt.
All was well but it cost quite a bit, 90 gold coins for all of these in total. For the currency in the world of Elmar, gold coins are of the highest value right behind a mana coin which are normally used for special events.
Keeping gold coins aside, there are two more types of coins—Silver and Bronze. With the value of 1 gold, you can get 100 silver coins and with 1 silver coin, you can 100 bronze coins. This is the money system in the Human continent.
The empire with the other three kingdoms had their own engravings on the coin, making it so a coin marked with a crown of the emperor could only be used in Germainia but not in Ironvale or Eldoria.
For now, I have a remaining balance of 110 gold coins which should get the remaining equipnt and the train ticket. I moved along the streets, the morning quietness was now gone as the streets flooded with people.
Few won haggled to get lower prices while rchants remained persistent. Children ran around in groups playing with each other. It was a sight not too distant as during festivals like Christmas, the streets in my world would be filled with people to the brim.
'But no matter how beautiful one place truly is, there will always be vermin'
"Soone please help! My child! That man took him!" A shout from a lady gained my attention as I gazed in their direction. A man in ragged clothes was carrying a child on his shoulder running away.
[Aren't you going to help?] Dante asked as I simply did nothing.
'No, I might get caught if I use my lightning magic in daylight in the crowd'
[You do know what will happen to that child, right?]
'He will get his organs traded or he will be sold as a slave' I stated the blunt and dark reality of this otherwise cheerful city.
No matter where you go in this world, there will be corruption and evil. It is a force that maintains balance. If there is light, there will be shadows. It is a given rule of the world that no one can change not even the mightiest of heroes. It is just the nature of life.
[I think you should save him] Dante muttered.
'But why?'
[I don't maybe you can save that boy from the suffering you had to endure]
I fell silent. I couldn't care less about what will happen to others. It is sothing I cannot afford—it is sothing far out of my own reach. On Earth, I survived by playing gas and working part-ti. I was living like a bug, whose only objective was to survive.
But what strives that will within ?
I don't know. And I might never know but, it does not matter as long as I survive. My goal is my life, not others—no one in the two worlds treated properly, except for a few and I will honor only them, not the others.
"Sob...Hic...My son" Her crying sound lingered in my ears.
I moved forward, giving the woman a last look. Her face was tear-streaked as she lay still, her knees buried in the ground, her everyday dress now stained with dirt. People around her just stared at the weeping woman instead of extending her a helping hand. But I was the sa—just like them.
This world is not for heroes but for Cowards, like . Only they survive until the end.
...
...
I stopped in front of a building with stone brick patterns which had an anvil as its sign—It was the blacksmith of the town.
"Adler's Smith, huh?" I spoke out the na written in bold letters and reached for the steel handle of the door. It opened with a jingle noise alerting the shopkeeper if any custor had entered the shop.
"Welco! Oh," A smiling woman in her late 20s sat at the counter, "Aren't you young to be visiting blacksmiths~?"
"No, I think I am of the proper age" I replied with a slight smile.
"Just ssing around with ya," She said her smile broadened, "So, what service does the great man need?"
"I want a thin blade that is not a rapier—an estoc would be preferable and," I paused looking at one of the armor shown on display. I pointed toward it and asked, "How much for that?"
"You've got good eyes boy, that's made out of the finest iron. Very good for beginner Mazekins" She said as she headed towards the bring it down from the fra that held it.
The armor that I pointed at only contained a breastplate, armguards, boots, and shoulder pads. It was good and did not look too heavy. It was good enough for to blend in as a beginner mazekin.
"So how much is it?" I asked again.
"60 silver," She said eyeing the armor, "But you know what since you are quite young I will give you a discount—How about 50 silver?"
"Fine by and also please arrange the estoc" I reminded her.
"Will do, young man don't worry" She said handing the armor and pointing towards a room, "Go inside there and put it on. Tell if it does fit, okay?"
"Yes," I muttered as I slowly headed for the small cabinet-like room she pointed at. It was like a trial room at a shopping mall.
I pushed aside the curtains covering the entrance and headed inside, there was a mirror perfectly replicating my figure and face. I started putting the armguards first, then the boots, and then the breastplate and the shoulder pads.
"Perfect," I mumbled.
[Yes, you look quite good now] Dante remarked.
'Thanks'
I headed out of the trial room where outside the woman was waiting for with a blade that was sheathed in its brown scabbard.
"Oh, you look quite handso now," She smiled tapping on my shoulders, "Even I might shoot my shot with you"
'Normal shopkeeper flattery, don't worry miss I am gonna buy anyway'
[Pffft-]
'Shut up'
"The sword?" I asked.
"Oh, here you go" saying that she gave the blade that she was holding.
I held it by its sheath, asuring the weight. Which was good—not too heavy and bulky. I held the hilt where its, straight-lined guard shone brightly and pulled it out from the scabbard. It was a thin blade like a rapier with straight guards.
"Perfect" I muttered looking at the blade, "How much for this?"
"Eh—give 80 silver coins," She said stroking her chin.
"Here you go," Giving her two gold I headed for the door, "Keep the change"
"H-huh, Umm T-thank you for visiting" Her shocked voice echoed behind as I left the shop.
[Flexing money are we now~?] Dante teased.
'Yeah, Yeah, whatever'
Now, It was finally ti to go to the train station for my departure. My stay at Donnerwall was brief but good, I got everything I wanted. As I turned a corner—
"M-Mom...Hic...Hic"
"How much can you give for this brat?"
Curse .
