The assassin disappeared in front of Liam’s eyes, and Liam was not able to keep up.
But just because his eyes could not keep up did not an he was unable to react to what the assassin wanted to do.
Liam felt a presence heading toward his shoulder, and he instinctively dodged the attack, gaining so distance between himself and his attacker.
But even as he did that, Liam realized one thing—the hand never reached for him. It had been trying to grab sothing that was on his shoulder.
’Fuck! Is that assassin after Asger and not ? This makes things complicated. Is this a case of trafficking? In this dungeon? Did that fucker Victor know about this? Was this so kind of twisted revenge sche from him?’
Liam questioned as he got ready for combat. He felt prepared to fight but annoyed at the sa ti.
"Did that human try and grab ? Let at him! I will bite him so hard that he won’t be able to live properly after that. I will—"
Asger’s monologue was interrupted by Liam’s sudden movent as he dodged another attack. Liam’s body moved left as he automatically got out of the way of what was happening.
His opponent gritted his teeth as they noticed Liam dodging every attack they made. But that did not an that Liam was in the clear just yet.
Instead, the opponent finally decided to go all out against Liam and took out their dagger.
"Tsk, you made do it. If you hadn’t realized that I was here, I could have grabbed that familiar of yours and been done with it. Now, be a good boy and stay still."
The man spoke with as much confidence and conviction as possible. He was not letting Liam out of his sight for even a second.
Just having that man in front of him made Liam tense up. Having soone aim for Asger was not on his list of things to deal with at the mont.
"You want Asger? Are you sure you want him? I don’t think you can handle him and his temper."
Liam questioned, but the trafficker did not seem to have heard him. And if he did, he pretended as if he had not. That left Liam in an awkward position, and he straightened his back before sighing in annoyance.
"Fine, you win! I will give you Asger. Make sure you keep a tight grip on him."
Liam grabbed his familiar before letting Asger down.
Asger did not complain about it. The small grin on the half-dragon’s face spelled doom for anyone who wanted to get close to him, but the person in front of him did not notice.
Either that, or he refused to care and take it into consideration. The man quietly approached Asger before leaning forward to touch him. And that was his first mistake.
The trafficker thought that he could control Asger with his magic, just as he had done to other beasts until now. But that was his first and last mistake.
Asger did not like to be touched, so he opened his mouth and threw out a fireball toward the man in front of him.
He let out a low growl of disappointnt as he watched the last traces of the man he had burned disappear into ash. His tail flicked in irritation, his small wings twitching slightly.
"Tch, what a letdown. I thought he would at least put up a fight," he muttered.
Liam let out a tired sigh and rubbed his temple. He had expected the fight to be more difficult, but Asger’s fire had ended it before it even truly began. While he was grateful for the swift victory, it also left him uneasy.
"You need to be careful, Asger. We can’t afford to draw unnecessary attention. If this guy had allies, they’re definitely going to notice he’s missing"
Liam said.
Asger snorted, his sharp eyes flashing.
"Not my problem. I’m only repaying what I’m owed. These people should have known better than to try and take ."
Liam didn’t argue. He knew that Asger had little tolerance for those who tried to control him. Still, the fact that soone had specifically targeted Asger made Liam suspicious. Was this a random trafficking attempt, or was there sothing bigger going on?
He turned his attention back to the dungeon, scanning for any imdiate threats.
The area had fallen into silence, the weaker monsters having fled after sensing the dangerous magic from their fight. The stillness was unsettling.
They couldn’t stay here long.
anwhile, deeper within the dungeon, an uneasy tension was growing.
A small group of people, dressed in dark hunting gear, stood in a semi-circle, their expressions grim. One of them, a woman with sharp eyes and a long scar running down her cheek, studied the magical traces left behind by their missing comrade.
She narrowed her eyes.
"Sothing’s wrong. He should have been back by now."
A younger man beside her shifted nervously.
"Maybe he just ran into trouble? We are in a dungeon, after all."
The woman shook her head.
"No. He was one of our best. If he got caught off guard, that ans sothing—or soone—stronger took him out."
Her words sent a ripple of unease through the group. Their missing mber wasn’t just an average hunter—he was an experienced tracker, one who had successfully captured high-value targets in the past. His disappearance without any sign of struggle was alarming.
"Then what do we do?"
Another man asked, gripping his weapon tightly.
The woman’s expression darkened.
"We find out what happened. And once we do, we avenge our fallen comrade. No one is allowed to go against us! I won’t allow it to happen. We are the best hunting group around these parts and it is ti we live up to our na."
With that, the group split up, their senses sharpened as they searched the area. If their comrade had been defeated, they needed to find the culprit.
