The question was not a surprise to Chi Lian. What surprised her was that i i had taken too long to figure out the truth. With so of the technology she had received from the system, the serums and the system being nad C4, her daughter should have figured out the facts a long ti ago.
"You are a snail." She told her.
i i frowned.
Chi Lian rolled her eyes when she saw the perplexity in her daughter’s eyes. She grabbed i i’s hand suddenly and they both vanished from the room. They re-appeared in a farm.
i i was even more confused. "What....Where are we?" She asked, looking around.
They were standing before a vast farm with very tall corn and fruits orchards. There was a villa, storehouse and equipnt outside.
Sothing that looked like ladybug was flying above, watering the fields.
Chi Lian poked her daughter on the head. "The system gave you a farm and you have not stepped foot in it even once. If it was a real system, you would not have made a very good host."
i i blinked. "A real system. Wait, does this an I don’t have a real system."
Chi Lian laughed. "I am the system host and you are a woman with a chip in her brain that connects you to my system."
i i thought back on all the weird things she had encountered since getting the system. Like her things in the space which went missing every once in a while.
Other tis, she left them in one place and found them elsewhere. Her assumption had always been that C4 took them.
"You took the explosives!" She gasped.
Chi Lian nodded. "For a good cause."
"And my egg!" i i gasped again.
Chi Lian folded her arms on her chest. "My egg, you an. I don’t know why you received a mission to retrieve it. Ever since C4 got the idea to attain independence, he has been creating trouble for and T4."
i i snorted. "You are lucky I have no interest in the egg anyway. And I propose that we get rid of those two eggs before they beco a problem like flying cars. They are useful but the sky is not the sa with them anymore. Another example is the smart gadget. In small quantities, useful but in many.....a nuisance.
We don’t know what is those bejeweled shells. A Zhe thinks that it could be prisons for so alien creatures. Maybe they got lost while being transported elsewhere and landed on earth."
Chi Lian sighed. "I have heard his thoughts. My stand is that if they are dangerous, then that is all the more reason for to find them all and destroy them."
"You are the one that put the chip in my head." i i said while lowering her body to sit on the ground.
Chi Lian did not dare to deny it. "I did. When I saw you laying in that bed in the hospital...." She broke off and drew in a slow breath as she sat down beside her daughter, "I was scared. My first thought was to go and kill Mo Liang but the spotlight on him was great and your father did not want to make a choice I might regret. He was worried that even after you opened your eyes, you would still be in love with Mo Liang. If I killed him, you would never forgive ."
i i could see things from her fathers point of view. The old blind her would have blad her mother and hated her. Her love brain had really given her parents a hard ti. All the apologies she had made did not feel enough.
"I did not want you to go back so I thought of a plan." Chi Lian handed i i a smoothie. Another appeared in her hands and she continued, "I made a selfish decision. I knew that Feng Jingzhe loved you so I told him to seduce you."
"You...." i i started.
Chi Lian put her right hand on i i’s thigh. "Don’t be excited. Do not doubt his love for you just because I asked him to seduce you. I knew he loved you and I took advantage of it. I have always known that he loved you and out of our family, he is the one person in the world that would die for you."
All the voices of doubt and irrational anger in i i quietened suddenly.
"He has loved you since he was thirteen." i i said in a voice that was filled with wonder. "Over one decade of loving you without wavering. Never have his eyes strayed. Even after you married, he did not move on. And when you had a daughter, his love extended to her so naturally. Anybody that does not know your history would think that he is her father."
A smile of content brewed on i i’s lips. Her mother was right, Jingzhe’s love for her was imnse and unquestionable. No matter how they started, that could not be questioned.
His motives were not dirty like Mo Liang’s. His intentions were pure.
"But I knew that you would not easily accept him." Chi Lian took her hand back and sipped her smoothie. Without savoring the sweetness, she continued her confession. "Not only had your looks faded but your confidence been destroyed. To top it off, he was your brother-in-law and you had a child. How could you accept his love quickly?"
"So the answer was a system." i i said blandly.
Chi Lian nodded. "Yes, a system. I used the chip to trick you into thinking that you had a system. The system forced you to interact with Jingzhe. The more you interacted with him, the more you ca to like him. And once Mingzhu truly accepted him, it was ga over." Her finger played with the straw in the smoothie cup slowly. "After hearing everything I did, do you resent for making such a decision?"
i i leaned towards her mother and gave her a hug. "Resent you! I love you and I am thankful for the decision you made. Sixteen year old would hate you for intervening in my life but twenty nine year old is grateful.
You gave a system....chip that helped start a new business. You gave my looks and confidence back. You sent back into the world of horse racing and helped reclaim my glory. You took revenge for in all the ways you could."
A lone tear spilled from her right eye. "Mom, you helped and Mingzhu find love and build a new life. You freed ....." She sniffled a little, trying to hold back her emotions.
She thought about how she had been drowning before the system gave her courage to co up for air.
"You freed ..." She burst into sobs.
