Mingzhe and Jingzhe remained outside the glass house, looking inside. Jingzhe had tried to go inside but Mingzhe stopped him to avoid startling Lele. Much as the snake would never knowingly hurt his sister, mistakes could happen.
Jingzhe listened to all of Mingzhe’s explanations and yet his heart remained unsettled. "Her mouth is moving, she could be begging for help."
"The hostage is negotiating with Lele to allow her go to work." Mingzhe told him. "She is promising to return later. But Lele and I both know that she is lying. I am afraid that the kidnapper will not be convinced easily."
Jingzhe rolled his eyes. "Will you stop referring to them as the hostage and the kidnapper? It does not paint a rosy picture you know."
"And yet it is the reality." Chi Lian shared as she dropped down next to them.
More family mbers had co and none of them had a worried look on their faces. They were smiling and so of them were taking pictures.
Jun Yi was recording the whole thing, planning to upload a few clips on her social dia pages which promoted the loving side of animals.
Jingzhe really didn’t understand why they were confidently standing by. Nothing about the situation looked simple or funny to him. "Should we call animal rescue, imperial soldiers, police, swat...."
"What are you panicking about?" Great grandpa Jun asked him. "Look, my wife is going inside as well and I am unbothered. We have been living with Lele for decades now. She ca here as a little girl. The only people that she has ever bitten, suffocated or eaten were bad guys that trespassed on our property."
Jingzhe blinked. He wondered if the old man was hearing himself. What did he an by the snake had eaten people? If it had eaten people, then people should not have been allowed to be around it.
Grandpa Jun folded the newspaper he had in his hands and looked into the glass house. He saw his wife and his mother going near the bed.
"The ransom negotiators have arrived." Chi Lian shared.
Madam Feng laughed.
Jingzhe ran to the nearest isolated area and started vomiting.
"I did not think he had such a weak stomach." Muyang said.
"Its because Lele is ugly." Ringo said. ’
There was a sound of a smack and then Ringo cried out in pain.
Inside the glass house, grandma Jun was already negotiating with Lele. "Baby, kidnapping humans is a cri. If you want to cuddle, why don’t we go and find your husband?"
Lele flicked her tongue and narrowed her eyes.
Grandma Jun nodded. "So, you don’t want to see Bobo right now."
Jun Yi joined the won and said, "It is this because he ca ho slling like another female snake? He was thrown out a week ago. Haven’t you all noticed that he has not co out from the lake in a week. And when he does, he just lays on the beach with their children. She threw out everyone."
Great grandma Jun’s eyes widened with realization.
i i anwhile raised her hand and patted the side of Lele’s face. "Good girl, why didn’t you tell earlier that you were heartbroken? Do you know that I have a jerk ex-husband too? He cheated on with a woman that is like a snake...."
Lele hissed.
i i settled down, leaning against the snake. "My bad, I apologize. That bitch is nothing like you. Anyway, they cheated on and gave birth to a child." She looked at Lele and explained, "That is an egg."
She looked into the eyes of the snake and swore that she saw contempt in there.
"She did not kick out her child however." Great grandma Jun said loudly and intentionally. She wanted Lele to hear her clearly. "Just because the husband cheats does not an the children that ca from the eggs you had with him are not yours."
Lele hissed and narrowed her eyes.
Great grandma Jun groaned. "If you don’t make a decision within a week, we are sending your husband and kids off to live on the island. Either forgive him, move on and get back to your job of daily patrols or start babysitting so of the pets we have around here. You can’t be eating for free. There is no such thing as a freeloading Jun."
Lele did not reply.
"Great now she is ignoring ." Great grandma Jun mumbled.
Jun Yi laughed.
An hour passed and i i remained a prisoner. So people went off to work and others brought chairs and refreshnts to watch.
Mingzhu fell asleep while Jingzhe filled his mouth with sour candies to stop himself from vomiting again.
Lele started dropping off food for i i. All the roasted at and rats she had hidden.
i i rolled her eyes. "I don’t want treats Lele, I want freedom. I want to go to work."
She also had treats of her own. Beef and chicken flavored biscuits that she acquired from the system mall. She tossed one in the air.
Lele raised her head and caught it.
i i was impressed. She decided to keep feeding Lele until she was so full that she fell asleep. But an hour and six bags of treats later, Lele was still awake and active while i i was realizing that she was going to be late for the opening of fairyland.
"Why don’t we make a deal Lele. Since you want to spend ti with and your heart is broken, why don’t you move in with ...." She stopped. "Wait, you are too big. I am afraid that I cannot keep you in my house."
A shadow sped above them, scooped down and retrieved i i like a ninja. Lele hissed once and closed her eyes. In only a few seconds, the snake was asleep like it had been drugged.
"Ti to end the reunion." Chi Lian announced. She turned i i around and shoved her to the exist. "Don’t worry, I will find a way of delivering a small sized Lele to your house. She will be so small that you can wrap her around your arm and walk around with her."
i i tried to brake with the back of her feet. "Mom, that will not be necessary."
Chi Lian threw i i over her shoulder and broke into a run, heading towards the parking ground where her daughter’s car was. "You extended the invitation, it cannot be taken back. Lele will move in with you after you return from Australia. She is depressed i i, maybe you can cheer her up."
