The incident Muyang was talking about and i i hated to think about was one from the tender age of six. At school, there was a ribbon dancing contest and every little girl was required to co up with a dance.
i i learned her routine from Chi Lian and the two were sure that she would win first place. Instead, she ca in third!!!
The teachers said her dance was "inventive" and this was because it was not smooth but athletic.
i i had not been too pleased when the crown was placed on Chen Zhilan’s head. She had thrown herself to the ground, scread and cried demanding that the crown and big ribbon ant for the winner be given to her.
Chen Zhilan showed more gracefulness by taking off her crown and handing it to i i.
All the parents went "awwww" and everyone applauded Zhilan while i i received the frowns and judgental glances.
That incident was a dark cloud on i i’s white history which was mostly beautiful. If she could, she would go back into the past and erase it from existence.
"I told you that third place sucks, it destroys common sense as well." She muttered.
Muyang sighed. "Third place is not as bad as you make it out to be i i. Many people that are not ranked at all would prefer to co in third. And the last place winner never feels good, no matter how dramatic their loss is. Only you would prefer last place to second or third."
"Because I am unique." she spread her arms out, smiling naughtily.
"Because I dropped you on your head a few tis when you were a baby." Muyang replied.
She pouted. "Are you calling crazy?"
"Yes." He answered. "But I love you anyway."
"I am not crazy, I am just passionate about what I like." She explained passionately.
"You are the queen of revenge." He rubbed his chin, "You take a whole year, months or weeks planning revenge. You are a genius when it cos to such sches and yet you could never color a picture within the proper lines. I would say shade the cat and you would shade the cat, give it extra body parts and color the space around it."
i i groaned. "Dad, why are you resurrecting my creative accomplishnts at the age of four or five? And what parent grades their child’s ability to shade at a university professional level? If you are going to grade Mingzhu’s howork like you used to grade mine, I am afraid that you might be in for a world of disappointnt."
In her childhood art howork, he used to look for things like conceptual depth, technical proficiency and comnt on the sides, offering advise to her and the teacher on how they could improve.
i i was not the only one that hated it, her art teacher Lin Jiajia was the sa. In fact, she quit because of it. The thought made i i wonder what her old teacher was up to now.
"Eh." Muyang shrugged. "I loved you, despite your love for drawing cats with six legs, dogs with wings and pandas that were blue instead of white and black.
I will never understand why Mrs. Lin always remarked "good, excellent" and other lies. But don’t worry, I will love Mingzhu too even if she draws dogs with shoes on the feet and colors out of the lines."
i i almost gasped but she closed her mouth. It was not a surprise that her father was already looking through Mingzhu’s howork and he had seen the pictures of the dogs with shoes on their feet.
Had he seen the frog with three feet or the duck with a tail?
Had he seen Jingzhe and Madam Feng applauding Mingzhu every ti she presented one of her drawings?
i i sighed. It was ti for her to start her training as she was behind schedule. "Dad, I should start....."
"Yoo-hoo, i i, we are here again." Zhilan’s voice cut through the air, cheerful like she was bringing good news and many gifts.
Zhilan’s figure appeared, followed by her other friends. All of them were dressed in riding clothes and boots.
Muyang kissed i i on the head and escaped quickly before he could be cornered into another debate on zodiacs and their influence.
Zhilan and Rongyan caught i i’s arms.
"Have you forgotten that I am getting engaged tonight?" ihua asked her.
Taiyuan clicked her tongue twice. "Jun ilin, you are in the wrong location. We have a whole itinerary planned for the day and it revolves around the future bride. As her best friends, we are supposed to be doing everything we can to keep her calm and happy."
"I know that but I have a competition so I was planning to et up with you all after my training." i i tried to dislodge her friends arms. "The sooner I get on the back of the horse, the sooner we will all get to a spa for facials, a massage, a pedicure and manicure. I already made the reservation. I borrowed exclusive professionals that do these things for the Empress Mother."
Zhilan let go of i i and squealed. "So we are getting the royal treatnt."
i i nodded.
ihua pulled i i head and gave her a big kiss on the cheek. "Thank you i i, I love you so much. You are better than Taiyuan who reserved an entire Tai foods eatery for and prepared a nu filled with junk food. She is trying to make fat before my wedding."
"You make it sound like I am planning to shove the food into your mouth." Taiyuan rolled her eyes. "Don’t let Miss bride lie to you, I told the chefs to prepare healthy foods. For so reason, she doesn’t believe . She asures her weight every after one hour in my company."
"Because you sll like sugar, especially your hair." ihua pinched her nose.
i i rolled her eyes. "Slling her will not make you fat i i."
ihua was determined to prove her point so she pulled Taiyuan closer and said, "Sniff her hair. It slls like sugar and calories."
Zhilan groaned.
i i took a whiff of the hair and her eyes widened. The paranoid bride was right. Their friend did sll like sugar!!
"What the heck Taiyuan! Did you take a bath in sugar water or sothing?" i i took a step back, looking around with wide worried eyes. Sweet scented things attracted bees and Taiyuan slled like a walking bee trap.
