"Tang Bingwen...like Tang Yue’s brother?" Jun Jie piped up.
Chi Lian nodded. "The one and only. He quit his job where he was working because of bullying following all the news surrounding his sister. I did not expect him to apply for a na change and cut off ties with his family. It looks like he is going to be removed from the family register too."
"Well that’s drastic." i i comnted and she fought off Tao Xiaotong’s fingers that clenched around her dress in the waist area. "Xiaotong, seriously. You need to stop acting as if I am your mommy or I am going to escape."
"But you are my second mommy." Tao Xiaotong pouted.
i i rolled her eyes. Tao Xiaotong was simply looking for an opportunity to move into the space camp on a permanent basis.
"So, mom are you hiring him?" Jun Yi asked.
Chi Lian’s shoulders rose upwards slightly, she was mixed. Tang or Ma Bingwen was not a bad doctor and he deserved every opportunity. But if he was hired, what were the odds that his family would not follow and bring drama to the work place?
Would his new work mates accept him? This was the very hospital where Tang Yue had been working after all and she was not popular around there anymore.
"You know what, I will give him a chance."
So people at the table were surprised and the opinions ca from different relatives.
"What if he is looking for an opportunity to sabotage you?"
"You got rid of Tang Yue just to replace her with Tang Bingwen. Does that make sense?"
"Mother, we should just keep a distance from those specific Tang’s. They are all bad news."
"Why is he applying to our hospital anyway? There are over eight hundred hospitals in the empire, major and minor. He can choose any of them."
Chi Lian shook her head. "Xue Lili says that he is not a bad kid and he has the potential to be one of the greatest doctors in the empire. I will et him and assess. If he is as good as she says, then I will bring him on board."
Jun Mingzhe raised his cup like a glass of wine. "My mother, ladies and gentlen, the benevolent Lady Chi, savior of all...."
Chi Lian tossed a coconut bun at his face before he could finish his toast.
"Ouch! ma...why are you hitting with bread when all I am doing is praising you?" Mingzhe had caught the bun after he let it hit his forehead and he took a bite.
Chi Lian sneered at him. "Don’t try to get clever with Mingzhe, I know exactly what you an. Do you think that I don’t hear the sarcasm in your voice?"
anwhile, the granddaughter on her lap was wrapping her hand around a coconut bun and smiling at her uncle with mischief.
"Mingzhu put down that bun right now." i i warned her daughter.
As so people turned to Mingzhu whose face had guilt written all over it, Tao Xiaotong piped in. "Yes, little sister put down the bun. Mom does not like it when we throw food at the table." She looked up at i i and smiled, batting her eyelashes. "Right mom."
"I am not your mother Xiaotong," i i let out a small groan.
She looked around the dining room for Tao Xiaotong’s actual mother. She did not see her. But that was because she was hiding between her husband and his brother. Tao foods was going to launch her daughter’s new pancake mix before the end of the month. It was a sumr break and there was no school.
The more ti her daughter spent at Pearl space camp, the safer it was for their ho kitchen and company research kitchen which Xiaotong always loved to monopolize despite it being open to all the food scientists, chemists and nutritionists they hired.
So, yes. If her daughter needed a second mommy to annoy as she accomplished her goals, then so be it.
Around the table, people giggled at i i’s plight. Sooner or later, they had a feeling that she would give in and let Tao Xiaotong have her way.
i i decided that she was finished with breakfast. She had not been to the beach since she arrived in Sea city, it was ti to go down and play in the sand.
"I am going to the beach." she shared as she stood.
Mingzhu was eager to join her and it seed the other kids wanted to go as well. Jingzhe imdiately stood up while filling a plate with pastries.
i i returned to her hotel room first, changed her outfit and grabbed so sunscreen. She also packed a small case with snacks and juice boxes and then she went down to the beach.
Of the people that had gone to play in the sand, she was the last to arrive. Jingzhe was already there and he was sleeping. The plate of pastries he had brought with him was sitting on a crab shaped table next to him, untouched.
She took her first steps in the sand with her bare feet. Her feet sank in slightly, grains creeping between her toes like old friends trying to reconnect after a long ghosting. The feeling which was old sohow seed to be new to her.
She took one step forward and then another and she broke into a jog, heading out to the sea. But, she tripped over and overly ambitious wall surrounding a sand kingdom.
"Aunt, you ruined the forbidden city!" Jang Lian declared.
i i apologized to the sand knights she had stomped on and got on her knees to repair the damage she had done. With the kids, they expanded the forbidden kingdom, drawing the attention of others that joined them like it was a task assigned by the sand emperor.
Two hours later, the sand builders cheered themselves and took pictures squatting or standing besides their creation.
"This should be a world record. It has got to be the largest sand kingdom ever built." Soone was overheard saying.
i i moved away from the sand kingdom and finally reached the shore. She raised her arms like a returning hero, ignoring the pinch of the seashells under her foot and the stink eye of a bird that had been hunting for worms in the sand.
As the sea breeze flirted with her hair that was flying freely, she heard voices calling out for her. When she turned her head in their direction, she saw her friends waving at her from the sea.
They had been swimming and on their way back to the shore. Excitedly, she jumped up and down twice, waving back at them.
And then, sothing unexpected happened. Rong ihua slipped on sothing in the water and fell on Su Feng, crashing her lips with his again!!!
