The tactical flashlight beam swept over the deep corners of the tunnel, and a team ard to the teeth quickly advanced in the darkness.
A thunderous boom sounded.
The explosion-proof gate they had just passed through suddenly dropped, and the loud noise made the Knights instantly turn to look.
The two Church Soldiers who were originally leading the way in the front hurriedly turned around, crossed the Ard Knights’ team, and rushed to the code lock valve on the gate, trying to open the path behind.
However, after pressing a few buttons intending to enter the ergency code, he realized that the gate chanism had no power at all.
Another Church Soldier nervously called the rear but could not get through as communication had completely broken down for so reason.
Canis raised his gun, watching the two local warriors continuously call with the Magical Artifact hanging on their ears. He tried to contact Leon outside, but as expected, all he heard was static, with no response.
The soldiers’ instincts told the Knights that the suddenly cut-off retreat was no accident. However, he, already a Wandering Soul, and the Holy War Knights were not in the least bit tense about potentially falling into a trap.
Finally confirming communication was down, the Church Soldier, with sweat on his forehead, had to give up the futile attempt and turned to say to the leading Canis:
(In Tasa language) "Follow us to the command center, we might be able to restart the base’s power core there."
"Continue to lead the way." The Wolf Family Young Master nodded his chin. Although he didn’t understand the local language, over the past few days, he could roughly grasp so basic communication phrases.
Perhaps the Knights’ calm deanor was infectious, as this soldier regained composure in the eerie situation and led the group quickly towards the base command center.
In the darkness, they encountered no enemies and saw no other survivors within the sanctuary. They reached the command center door, and the leading soldier forcefully yanked the handle, finding it locked.
He raised his gun to destroy the latch but was tapped on the shoulder by a Wolf Armor Knight behind him.
"Let ." Canis stepped forward, regardless of whether the other understood, lifted his steel boots, and stomped powerfully on the heavy door panel.
The door sunk in response, kicked out a deep dent by the Knight’s imnse strength.
Knights raised their guns and drew their swords, and charged first into the room.
Church Soldiers followed closely and entered the command center.
Seeing the empty hall, he instructed his comrade to go to the control zone to activate the backup energy to open the tunnel gate while he went to the surveillance section, attempting to start the system to examine the sanctuary’s log videos and communication records.
The buzz of the backup energy room could be heard, the hall lights flickered on, the control terminal screen started, and the Church Soldier breathed a sigh of relief. He then opened the surveillance records and retrieved the last scene before the sanctuary went silent.
Canis and several Holy War Knights gathered around, looking at the glass-like crystal imaging device.
Only to see many groups of footage fast-rewinded, then replayed, with many people silently gathering together towards a certain area.
The soldiers of the Dawn Sect couldn’t understand the strange action of the crowd on screen, so he turned to check the base log in the database...but saw a bunch of so-called redemption-seeking nonsense.
Flipping forward to the last coherent text record docunted an event where the sanctuary had housed a rare group discovered in the surrounding areas, respirator disease adapters seeking refuge in the wild.
Canis patted the soldier’s shoulder and pointed to one of the images on the crystal device.
The Church Soldier looked up and saw in the surveillance footage the crowd gathered in the plaza here at the eting point.
It seed like everyone was moving towards the center of the underground plaza where a vague figure stood, with nurous survivors of the sanctuary bowing down in front of it until the final image also faded to black.
"Take us there," Canis firmly pointed to the area shown on the crystal image.
...
The team left the command center, and the sharp sound of tal grinding broke the silence of the underground passage.
The Knights were led by the soldier and walked quickly to the end of the tunnel.
At this mont, the flickering searchlight ahead revealed sothing, causing the Church Soldier to suddenly stop.
The light beside the gun barrel extended forward until it refracted a series of eerie silhouettes standing at the front of the tunnel.
Dozens of humanoid figures, seemingly exquisite crystal sculptures, refracting rainbow glows under the tactical lighting, as delicate as so kind of artistic masterpiece.
As they got closer, the Church Soldier’s hands holding the rifle instinctively trembled, a speechless terror spread from the heart.
Looking at the familiar bulletproof armor and equipnt outlines on the sculptures, they were not crystal statues.
These were the Dawn Squad Special Forces dispatched here earlier!
The backs of two Church Soldiers grew cold, and their legs felt encased in lead as they stagnated on the spot in fright.
But Canis and the Holy War Knights strode past the soldiers without any pause.
"Filthy tricks of witchcraft. I knew there was a Wizard playing ghost, ready shield." The Wolf Family Young Master summoned with his left hand, the Spiritualization Knight’s Kite Shield materialized; the wolf head helt engulfed his head, with his right hand raising the gun barrel like a blade on the shield’s side.
"Strictly speaking, we’re also part of filthy witchcraft tricks, Baron Gunar." The Holy War Knight beside him, raising his shield, joked.
"Ha, thanks for the reminder, Sir Sandy, your sense of humor has increased since dying." Canis grinned.
