Chapter 99: BATTLE FOR THE THRONE
[MUSIC RECOMNDATION: MIRACLES IN DECEMBER CLEAN VERSION ~ EXO]
Inside the kingdom of Morado, within the palace walls where there is a silent battle for the throne. A new rumor started rising among the servants of the palace. It was that the princess had lost her mind, and the question is how did this rumor start.
....Few days back, at the isolated quarters of the silver-haired guard...
Kitanna’s words left even Nix surprised; he turned to look at Larel, who stood there like the princess was saying sothing foreign. Then his eyes trailed to look at Kitanna, who looked very excited about sothing, her eyes shining like a child who had just discovered a nickel in her old shorts, the last ti he saw her like this was when they had visited her father’s tomb. Nix guessed that the princess might actually be onto sothing, but the face of the other person who was standing with them looked more confused.
Larel stood there, her gaze didn’t move from Kitanna. If the princess had her explaining herself, then she must have a reason for it. In the end, all she said was she has found the mouse, what mouse? Larel questioned in her mind but she didn’t voice it out. She turned around to know if there was an actual mouse around them.
"Queen Larel, return to your quarters. Let
talk with the princess alone." Nix finally broke the silence. Kitanna was not soone to make an accusation if she wasn’t very sure about it.
Larel opened her lips to say sothing then she closed it, and bowed out of the respect she had for Nix and the princess. She left the quarters and walked back into the main palace.
Nix now focused his gaze on the princess, who stood there like a lot of things were running through her mind.
"You have so explanations to give, princess; you just scared that young woman." Saying this, Nix moved to the side and allowed the princess to step inside his room.
Kitanna entered inside the room, her hands running through her hair, like if she did it constantly then sothing will appear.
Nix closed the door and went to stand beside the princess. He stopped her hands when she raised them to touch her hair again, and he used his other free hand to pet the flying strands until they looked arranged again. Then he prompted to ask,
"Were you referring to Larel as the mouse?" Nix asked; he needed an explanation for the drama episode that went on outside.
Kitanna raised her finger to her mouth; she nibbed on it for a mont before her brown eyes stared at Nix for a brief mont.
"Did you hear her? A maid ca to attend to her this morning, but the queen dowager had asked all the servants not to attend to her."
Nix humd, then he let go of her hand which he was still holding, "Should your suspect not be the maid? Why is it the queen?" He asked.
Kitanna clasped her hands together, "My first guess was the maid too. But it just didn’t add up; every maid that got close to her ended up being a suspect. Rember that night of my reinstatent Axilla was drunk and ended up in her brother’s room. Sothing doesn’t feel right." She bit her fingers in thought.
Nix was the one to rub his head this ti, "What happened this morning? Why did you lose your cool and almost choked a maid?" If he was going to understand the problem, then he needed to know from where it began.
"I saw soone’s back, in the corridor, and for so strange reasons, it looked very familiar. When I called the person to stop, they didn’t. I chased after the person there I t Bareea, the maid and Larel." Kitanna explained.
A back that looked familiar, Nix gave it a thought for so ti. "Where do you think you have seen the back before?" He asked.
"I think in the palace, but another thing tells
it’s long ago. I don’t know Nix, I think soone is ssing with my head." Kitanna raised her eyes to look at him. Her brown eyes silently pleading for him to help her.
"Have you rembered anything from the past? Maybe you have t this person before. The only two won I know are the queen dowager and her cousin..." But Lady Deonisia was not soone that can be forgotten easily; she has this peculiar face that just gets stuck in your mind. Co to think of it, she was not there when Kitanna started growing up, because when Nix had returned to the palace, the older woman had left that was why it took him ti to rember that she used to be around the forr queen.
"You said soone dragged you away to dip your head inside water in one of your dream episodes. Was it Lady Deonisia?" Nix was trying to gather the missing dots.
Kitanna bit her lower lips, "Did I say it was her?.. no no, that person was younger and ...." Kitanna raised her face in shock.
Nix nodded his head as if understanding what was running the girl’s mind, "That’s right. The person we are looking for has stayed in this palace since the ti you’ve been growing up." And Nix also gave it a thought, the shadow he had seen watching Kitanna was that of a younger person and unlike Lady Deonisia, the person was slim in stature.
"Princess, do you trust ?" Nix looked into her eyes; it was not with intensity but his blue eyes were warm. The battle for the throne was getting ssier day by day and it’ll only end with one winner.
"I trust you," Kitanna whispered. The truth was that it was only Nix she could trust as it stands.
"Give them what they want. Just like you accused Larel, go about in the palace doing the sa. Feed their ego, make the mouse feel invisible; it is only then she will make a mistake." Hopefully, it was a she; then that way it’d be faster to catch the person.
Kitanna nodded to the instructions; when she turned to leave the room, Nix held her hand softly pulling her towards him.
The hug was a brief one, "Just endure it for the mont; you will get what is yours soon." He comforted the young girl. Kitanna stifled her tears and nodded; it was these warm feelings that she felt around Nix that made her want to depend on him for everything.
Leaving the isolated quarters, Kitanna started displaying the act. She accused every maid she saw inside the palace, dragging their clothes or holding their neck. That was when the rumor started that the princess of Morado was losing her mind.
.....Now present ti, inside the royal shrine...
"Just like you said, the princess is losing her mind. What I would say during the ritual will even help our plans work better." Mubera grinned looking at the two won.
Deonisia smiled, the pride was evident on her two-layered neck because it swelled up. Her chest puff out a little; she couldn’t contain how proud she was. "I have the little thing in the palm of my hand; my mouse knows best to do her job neatly."
"I hope to et this mouse of yours soon," Mubera chipped in, and let out a laugh which prompted Almaria to join in the laugh.
"You should; you won’t believe what this mouse did to the princess years ago. That is why the idea of her makes the princess scared to her wits." Almaria’s voice sounded like a whisper, soone about to give away a huge secret.
Mubera inched closer to get every bit of the gossip, and she heard the queen dowager say, "The princess was still this young when-" Almaria’s words hung in her throat because Deonisia pushed her to stop talking.
"Let’s leave that for now, the ritual is tomorrow. We have done our part; it’s ti for you to fulfill yours. Talking about my insider should not be our main concern." Deonisia muttered, giving an eye telling her cousin to compose herself.
Mubera nodded understandingly, "Yes yes...is true. Let’s focus on our final victory tomorrow. You don’t have to worry about tomorrow; I will do what I know best how to do. Like the queen dowager said, it’s being cunning," and this caused laughter to erupt from Mubera and Almaria’s lips.
Deonisia shrugged her shoulder and smiled. Their ti in the shrine finally ended, and they stepped out of the room.
Walking past the two won, a figure entered inside the shrine to pray.
