Chapter 132: PRAYER FOR A SOUL

[MUSIC RECOMNDATION: I WON’T GIVE UP ~ JAI WAETFORD]

Now alone inside the dining room, the maids started cleaning up the table as breakfast had finally ended. Axilla was in charge of placing the plates according to size before sending them to the kitchen.

"Axilla, I’m so happy you’re back at the palace. Co to my room later on. We have a lot to catch up on," Larel smiled, feeling relieved that the young girl was now safe and cleared of the false allegations against her.

Axilla bowed respectfully, "Thank you very much, Qu... Lady Larel," she corrected herself, having learned about Larel’s change in title upon her return.Axilla bowed respectfully. It was going to be difficult for Axilla to use the term lady but she would adapt soon.

Larel smiled at the girl, "It’s not a problem. I hope my brother was nice to you. He can be a handful sotis, but he’s a gentleman," she remarked, not failing to praise her brother.

Panha, looking for a way to leave after feeling embarrassed, chid into the discussion, "Chief Cortez was very kind to her. He even made sure she slept in his room."

Axilla bit her lips, feeling her ears burn in shyness. She looked at the young master, who seed uninterested in the topic.

"He did?" Larel turned to her brother, "That’s new. He doesn’t like sharing his space," she completed, then her face marred in worry.

"Cortez! Hold on. Axilla, I hope he didn’t make you sleep on the cold floor," Larel questioned, looking at both her brother and the young girl.

Axilla gulped nervously, unsure how to answer. She bit her lips, why was this white witch saying things that wasn’t asked of her, when she looked at the young master’s direction he was busy checking out the flower vase like the topic did not involve him.

Axilla didn’t like the direction the conversation was heading towards. If she said he didn’t, then everyone would know they sleep on the sa bed. And if she said he did, it’ll make her saviour appear as a bad person. She was in a start of dilemma, searching her mind for what to say, while pleading with her eyes for the young master not to say anything.

Cortez finally raised his face when he saw the hazel eyes pleading with him not to talk. He smirked, "Sister, can we go to your room? I have sothing to discuss with you," diverting the discussion.

Axilla was going to exhale, but her relief hung in the air when she heard Lady Larel say, "I won’t go unless you say here and now why you made Axilla sleep on the cold floor. Are you not seeing how fragile she is? What if sothing happens to her?" Larel barked protectively.

Axilla bit her lips, she was grateful soone was looking out for her but this was not the mont and she wished Lady Larel could just stop talking.

Panha, tired of watching Axilla get all the attention, stood up from her chair, making a loud screeching sound on the floor. Everyone turned their attention to her.

"Lady Larel, I think you’re worrying too much. Axilla is fine, and she’s a strong girl. I would love to go and pray in the shrine now. Can Axilla follow

to show

the place? I don’t know anywhere here," Panha said sweetly.

Axilla was glad that soone helped, but she worried that Panha wanted to go outside with her. She felt panic surge in her bones again. However, she rembered this was not the rchant’s village; she was in her own territor; the palace, where everyone who loved her was at every pillar.

Before leaving, Axilla turned to look at Larel, "Don’t worry about . I’m very fine. I’ll co to your quarters after I escort Chief Panha." She smiled before disappearing through the door.

Panha walked in behind, while Axilla led the way through the path to the shrine. It was ti to make her first move, and her target was the high priestess.

"You must be feeling very special, hm?" Panha asked, causing Axilla to turn her face to the side, but she continued walking.

"Like the hot sauce around here... Everyone cares about you, want to see you... no wonder you behaved the way you did back then. You felt like everyone should love you, right? And I disappointed you."

Axilla didn’t respond; her heart started beating fast. She was in the palace, where she could shout for help, but it didn’t dispute the fact that she was afraid. The lashings the woman gave her long ago echoed in her mind, reminding her of who she was walking with.

"I will only say this once, Axilla, and I know you can hear . What happened back in the rchant’s village, if I hear it from anyone else, you know very well what I can do. Don’t think you’re safe because you’re in the palace. Erase it from your mind and let’s start on a new slate." Saying this, Panha held Axilla’s shoulder.

When Axilla felt the touch on her body, her whole being stiffened, like she was ducked inside a frozen lake on the morning of the first snow. She gulped softly before turning her face to et Panha’s.

"I did a good job taming you; now run along and continue with your duties. I’ll find my way." Panha grinned, enjoying the fear she put in the girl.

Axilla nodded her head gently and turned, leaving only the woman along the passage.

Panha walked casually, looking at the palace. She continued until she stopped in front of the shrine. Then she stepped inside, only to see that the one nad Bareea was carrying her son and praying earnestly inside the shrine.

Panha went to sit beside the woman as she joined in praying, looking around to see if the high priestess would appear.

Bareea opened her eyes and saw the guest she had bumped into earlier, "I didn’t know you pray to our heavenly king too."

Panha opened her eyes when she heard the woman speak, "I do believe in supernatural creatures. So I pray anyti I get the chance."

Bareea nodded her head, lifting her child up; she stood up to leave the shrine.

"Are you leaving because of ? I was thinking we could catch up. After I heard your story during breakfast, I believe we both have sothing in common." Panha spoke, making a sad face like she pitied the woman.

"We do? How so?" Bareea asked, taking back her position to sit next to Panha.

Before Panha could talk, she heard soone speak from behind.

"Bareea, you’re here to pray again?" Mubera stepped out of her inner room, wearing her long white garnt.

Bareea stood up to bow deeply, "High Priestess Mubera, I thought you won’t give

an audience today, as I have beco a pest in the shrine."

At the ntion of the na, Panha rubbed her tongue on her lips. ’The woman of the mont has arrived,’ she said in her mind.

Mubera noticed the stranger sitting beside Bareea. It was not a face she was familiar with, but she gave the person a smile.

"Bareea, you’re never a pest. You ca with a friend?" She asked, looking at the very pale-looking woman.

Panha stood up as it was a cue for her to speak, "I ca to offer a prayer for the soul that would be leaving this realm soon."
