Chapter 128: Orbs blazing with ire
Lauren walked past Jasper to see what was happening in the hall. She froze when she saw so people attacking the guests, their eyes were all black, had long nails, and had dark veins popping all over their faces.
"Guess how many human hearts will stop beating today?" Jasper’s question echoed in her mind. Rich humans attended the tea party, those from the wealthiest families, and she realized that the people running wild were humans whose hearts got corrupted.
The royal guards who ca with Lauren surrounded her.
She had lost count of how many deranged humans were attacking the people in the hall. Blood splattered on white tables and beige curtains. The capable ones tried to fight them and the rest were hurrying to leave.
She turned to the balcony where she ca from, realizing that Jasper must be working with the mastermind of this. But she didn’t see the man, and as of the mont, her priority was to get rid of the deranged humans before things would go out of hand.
"Let us escort you out, Your Majesty. This place is dangerous."
"No, help in killing the deranged humans," Lauren ordered and she saw the hesitation in the royal guards. All of them were Alec’s n and they must have been instructed to prioritize her safety at tis like this.
"But His Majesty might-"
Lauren pulled the pistol from the royal guard’s waist and fired at the deranged human who was about to jump at his back.
"See? I can protect myself pretty well. You two can stay with , the rest will fight the deranged humans," she instructed.
The mansion had turned bloody and chaotic, and so deranged humans were attacking them so the royal guards had no choice but to fight. However, the silver bullets could not penetrate the deranged humans’ hearts anymore as if they had beco more durable. So, in fighting them one must wield their strength and use so spells.
Lauren wasn’t as strong as vampires, so she had to rely on spells. But manipulating objects around and throwing them at the deranged humans consud too much energy and was of no use because she noticed their bodies had beco almost as durable as granite. They didn’t even flinch every ti they were hit as if they could not feel pain.
What she did, she used a spell on her pistol to make her bullets penetrate a deranged human’s heart. However, hitting their hearts with one bullet did not seem easy. She had good marksmanship but with how the deranged humans moved almost as fast as light, she could not follow their every move.
"Damn," she muttered a curse when she missed again.
Her pistol was thrown away and her stomach hit a table when a deranged human attacked her from behind while she was aiming for the one in her front.
Before the deranged man could lay his finger on her, she moved her hand in the air and the chair nearby flew to the deranged man, causing him to fall back. But he was quickly back on his feet like nothing happened, and she could not find her pistol.
A royal guard was about to co to her aid but he was blocked by another deranged human. She was about to use another spell, but the striking pain in her chest stopped her. She clutched her chest as the deranged man stared at her darkly.
But before he could attack, a man’s back covered her sight as she heard a slashing sound from the saber he used to cut the deranged man’s head and pierce his heart.
The man in black cape turned to her. His sea-green and red eyes t her blue ones.
"Pardon
for being late, Your Majesty," Darius said, his long saber dripping with blood.
When he saw her clutching her chest and could barely support herself, he put his saber at the scabbard on his back and carried her in his arms without a word. He ca with his n and he knew they were enough to finish all the deranged humans. So he didn’t join them and prioritized taking Lauren out of the mansion.
Lauren pressed her eyes and clutched her chest tightly, feeling the searing pain vibrate throughout her body.
Just in ti they stepped out of the mansion, Alec who ca out from the dark part of the front yard where he teleported blocked Darius’ way. His dark eyes fell on Lauren who looked in pain.
"What happened to her?" He asked coldly, his sharp glare directed at the unfamiliar man holding his wife.
Lauren opened her eyes when she heard Alec’s voice.
"Give her to -"
"No," she cut him off in a weak voice.
"I’ll go with Darius."
Alec’s lips parted a bit, shock crossed his eyes for a mont before his gray orbs blazed with ire.
Darius was about to continue walking to the carriage but Alec blocked his way again. Darius’ cold look never faltered at Alec’s furious glare.
"I am Her Majesty’s henchman, King Alec. She does not wish to go with you, and I don’t follow anyone else’s orders. I only answer to her," said Darius who wasn’t the least bit intimidated in front of the most powerful man in the kingdom.
"She is my wife," Alec growled and was on the verge of taking Lauren forcefully.
"Let us go, please..." Lauren muttered in between her labored breathing. If there was one person she could trust the most and knew what to do with her condition, it was not Alec but Darius.
Alec’s unforgiving eyes looked at Lauren in disbelief. Worry was etched on his face despite how livid he was. He could not sll blood from her so he knew she wasn’t injured anywhere, but he knew sothing was wrong.
"I-I said let us go!" Lauren yelled when Alec was about to take a step closer.
Carriages arrived behind Alec and his soldiers stood by him in a defensive stance. Lauren’s cavalryn who were done killing the deranged humans inside the mansion went out and stood by Darius’ side. They did not waver in the face of the King and seed to be ready to wield violence if they had to.
"Tell
what is wrong with her. Why is she in pain!" Alec’s voice thundered. The veins on his neck protruded and his dark red eyes were proof that he was at his limits.
