Chapter 1378: Chapter 264: Unexpected Collapse_3
Even under the constraints of warti economic policies limiting consumption, the capital was still brimming with laughter and joy. This joy quickly spread to the Near East frontlines.
Even within the Orc Great Camp, one could sense this joy. However, instead of sharing in it, the orcs were consud by endless fury.
Amid the chaos, Daniel coldly asked, “Which wave of attacks was this from the enemy?”
Putting on a convincing act, to deceive the orcs, Hudson had been sending out sabotage teams one after another recently, only for them to be conveniently ambushed and defeated by the enemy’s pre-positioned garrison forces.
Having experienced this multiple tis, Daniel had grown used to it. However, this ti was different—the raiding team had charged directly at the Commander’s Tent, nearly sending him, their Marshal, to et the Beast God.
“Marshal, this was the ninth wave of enemy attacks!”
The guard replied, his body trembling.
In the recent skirmish, the Captain of the Guard had died on the spot, and Daniel, as the Commander, had narrowly escaped disfigurent.
A dramatic and nerve-wracking scene like this certainly required soone to answer for it. Since the best scapegoat, the Captain of the Guard, was already dead, further accountability would naturally fall on these surviving subordinates.
“The ninth wave already, and each one grander than the last. Looks like Hudson is truly desperate now!
Send out orders for all units to prepare for war and be on guard against the enemy suddenly leaving their stronghold to engage in a decisive battle!
Also, send soone to hasten the construction progress. Keep applying pressure on the enemy.”
Daniel said with a cold sneer.
To finally gain the upper hand after so many confrontations was no easy feat.
Daniel had endured for years to reach this day. At so point, Hudson had beco an obstacle deep within his heart.
Unless he overca it, the wound within his soul would never heal.
…
At the Snow Moon River Dam Construction Site, the leaders of various species responsible for the project were all staring blankly at the orders in their hands.
The construction progress was already extrely rushed, and now it needed to accelerate even further—this was simply a death sentence!
However, there were so species who worked faster. Not only did they complete their tasks on ti, they even made progress ahead of schedule, leaving the royal soldiers overseeing them very pleased.
Since there were those who could complete the tasks, it ant the issue wasn’t with the task itself being unreasonable but with the workers being too lazy.
When verbal prodding proved ineffective, the overseers resorted to whips. Poor Golden Pigg Glaem, for not moving quickly enough, received a lash directly.
Frightened, he imdiately commanded the young and able-bodied of his tribe to hurry with their work, terrified the overseers would be in a bad mood and whip him again.
But this was only on the surface. As soone who had inherited ancient wisdom, Glaem was no ordinary individual.
Humiliated to such an extent, he had already labeled these overseers as dead in his heart.
If not for fearing the Imperial Court behind them, Glaem would have already sent these people off to et the Beast God.
“What are you all standing around for? Hurry up and speed up the work!”
“Idiots, stop wasting ti here! This dam is going to be torn down later anyway, so why bother making it so sturdy?”
Glaem berated them angrily.
Useless teammates were indeed the worst—no matter how much effort you put in, they couldn’t be helped. They just mindlessly followed orders without thinking at all.
With mandatory orders from above to catch up on their assigned section’s progress, Glaem, now full of resentnt, began to sacrifice the already limited engineering quality.
Similar scenes were unfolding continuously at the construction site. Seeing their sluggish neighbors finish their tasks early, every faction, under the weight of their burdens, began to follow suit.
However, the rushed construction pace, while temporarily satisfying the overseers, led to ever-increasing daily workloads. Correspondingly, the quality of the dam continued to plumt.
When water levels were low, this posed little danger. But with last night’s torrential rains upstream, the reservoir’s water volu had surged dramatically, and the dam was now on the brink of collapse.
“Quick, notify the Sacrifice Clan to imdiately reinforce the dam!”
The Lionman General hurriedly urged.
But it was already too late. The river waters battered relentlessly against the dam. Built from re mud, the dam couldn’t withstand such an assault, and weakly compacted areas began forming holes rapidly.
One, two, three, four… Soon the barricading dam beca riddled with holes, and days of pent-up river water burst forth, as if devouring the entire world.
“The dam has collapsed!”
Hearing the cry of alarm, Glaem, sensing imdiate danger, turned and ran without hesitation.
Soon, the cascading collapse swept across the entire dam, and the floodwaters engulfed the orcs working tirelessly on site.
Freed from the constraints of the dam, the downstream river channels could no longer contain the overwhelming floodwaters. The water spilled over into the embanknts on both sides of the river, turning the surroundings into a vast marshland as far as the eye could see.
At Sartex Fortress, Hudson, still imrsed in the joy of victory, suddenly sensed sothing off during his inspection of the city defenses.
“Belsden, what is that sound?”
Before the young bear could investigate, a massive flood appeared on the horizon, rushing toward them and startling Hudson.
Had it not been for the orc army outside the city still showing no sign of retreat, he would’ve thought his plan had backfired.
Soon, the floodwaters swept through the orc camps outside the city. Countless orc soldiers scrambled to flee but were still unable to escape the fate of being engulfed by the waters.
There was no ti to revel in their misfortune, as the floodwaters surged toward the fortress. The leaks were too nurous to plug, and soon streams of water began to flow through the streets, with the water level rapidly rising.
