Chapter 1364: Chapter 259, Trafficking in Humanity_2

They were deeply disappointed with Daniel’s performance and did not imdiately step forward to declare their support. By the ti they realized sothing was wrong, the army was already rife with rumors and gossip.

The Orcs are pragmatic—in their eyes, a commander who cannot win battles is nothing at all.

“Marshal, rumors are flying incessantly within the army recently. So have even spread claims that the Imperial Court intends to use the war as a cover for racial extermination!”

Count Pulvy’s words caused the expressions of the gathered generals to turn grave.

Anyone with a functioning mind knows that, under the current circumstances, unless the Orc Empire’s leadership has completely lost their sanity, they would never engage in self-destructive practices like ‘racial extermination.’

Though they usually hold their noses high and completely disregard the vassal races, the reality is that without these races, the Orc Empire would truly struggle to maintain control.

Without enough cannon fodder, forget invading the Alpha Kingdom—they’d be lucky not to be countered and overturned instead.

With the population of the Four Great Royal Courts and the Seven Great Royal Clans being so limited, it’s impossible to govern the vast grasslands. Once confronted by a human invasion, their empire could face destruction at any ti.

However, the Orcs have never been a species bound by common sense. Those who rely evolved physically but failed to evolve ntally are all easily manipulated.

If soone were to deliberately guide them and amplify their deep-seated hatred for the Imperial Court, convincing them that ‘racial extermination’ is plausible would not be difficult.

“Damn cult, jumping out again to cause trouble!

Pass down the order—have all units conduct strict investigations of the Cult organization. Any cult mbers found spreading such rumors are to be severely punished without rcy!”

Daniel said gravely.

“Rumors and gossip” can destroy people. If the lower-class Orcs truly believe this nonsense, the war ahead would beco impossible to fight.

Bringing everyone here forcibly already left them disgruntled. A little more provocation, and so might outright revolt.

Daniel understood Hudson all too well—if the enemy were to detect problems within their army, they would undoubtedly strike when they were down.

There are plenty of ways to lure the enemy into a decisive battle; resorting to the most foolish thods is unnecessary.

The Orc Empire is fraught with internal conflict—even staged performances could end up becoming genuine crises.

Blaming the Cult is just a necessary move. Judging by the current battlefield situation, the Imperial Court might not be conducting racial extermination, but it is undeniably leveraging the war to weaken the military capabilities of all kinds.

As an Executor, Daniel, the commander, had long beco odious in the eyes of the lower-class Orcs.

“Marshal, direct suppression may not be viable.

Recent tis have seen heavy losses across all races—those below are already voicing their discontent.

If overly extre asures are employed, it might cause fierce backlash, potentially even leading to revolt.

During our ti on the frontlines, we apprehended two spies who were passing information to the Human Race.

Upon interrogation, we discovered that their tribe had lost over sixty percent of their capable young adults—unable to bear such loss, they chose to…”

Before Count Pulvy could finish, Daniel cut him off abruptly: “Shut up!

Pulvy, rember this: certain words must never be spoken carelessly.

The current imperial strategy was jointly determined by the Four Great Emperors and the Seven Great Kings—there’s no way it can be wrong.

As for those who delivered ssages to the enemy, they’ve turned traitor. Their words hold no credibility; they were surely bribed by the enemy!”

Environnt shapes people most profoundly. A general may not need to understand politics, but a commander absolutely must learn it.

Unknowingly, Daniel had beco the very person he once despised most.

Such changes allowed him to secure his position as Commander-in-chief and overco all competitors to beco the heir to the Wolf Court.

The consequences, however, were glaring—investing too much in politics inevitably compromised his military efficacy.

The prevalent rumors in the camp now were precisely a result of prioritizing political affairs.

Even though he was fully aware that unjust treatnt of all races would hinder the army’s ability to unite as one, Daniel still chose to follow the Empire’s orders.

The reasoning was simple—wars inevitably cost lives. If the Royal Family and noble clans wish to avoid their own deaths, the cannon fodder races below are the only ones who can pay that price.

With the brief interlude concluded, Daniel stared at the map on the wall in silence for a long ti before speaking slowly:

“Pass down the order—ahead of the siege, all participating units are to receive three days of extra rations, with unlimited wine and at!

Command the tribes to prepare camp followers to serve as post-battle comfort for the soldiers!”

From the initial promise of “annihilating and capturing Canglan City, capturing Caesar IV alive, destroying the Alpha Kingdom, with every soldier being granted noble titles…”

To the later pledge of “bringing Hudson back alive, ensuring your family’s nobility for generations…”

To the more recent promise of “breaking through enemy lines, entering the city without sheathing swords, and allowing soldiers to keep half of the spoils…”

Daniel’s rewards grew smaller and smaller, though they at least beca attainable.

Unfortunately, these rewards were poisoned—the cost of consuming them was life.

As the Human Alliance conference date drew closer, warti economics brought renewed vitality to Canglan City.

Any system inherently cos with loopholes.

The representatives of various countries, already aware of Alpha Kingdom’s implentation of material regulation, were quick to prepare ahead of ti.

Cartloads of supplies, under the guise of diplomatic gifts, traversed countless checkpoints and successfully reached the Capital.

A small portion of these supplies was retained by their senders for personal use, while the majority was discreetly funneled into the black market for trade.
