Chapter 990: Chapter 977: I, Broad-Minded
“Sure!”
Upon hearing about the clan’s assessnt task, Muria did not hesitate much before nodding in agreent. It was just about hunting monsters, which he was best at.
“Young Master Jelos, I must remind you that if you use any firearms or wear star armor during the battle to clear out the Different Species stronghold, then this assessnt will be considered a failure. The martial arts resources the clan is providing to you will only be maintained at their current level.”
“Okay, I understand.” Muria nodded. He knew that his family wanted to truly see his potential in martial arts.
Lately, he had often spent his free ti in the capital, Dorvalier, acting as the Night Hunter, killing Different Species hiding among humans. Though he was careful to hide his figure, he hadn’t been overly diligent, which ant he left quite a few traces.
He believed that with the information network of the Douglas family, they should have been able to gather intel on his activities during this period – this was why he now received this clan assessnt task.
Originally quite average and undistinguished in the clan, Muria started attracting the clan’s attention through his cultivation of martial arts. He had already proven his martial arts talent; now, he only had to showcase his combat strength as a Martial Artist. Then his identity and status within the clan would rise further, gaining access to more resources.
“I’ll send you the location for this assessnt task later. Please make sure to receive it!”
“Okay!”
After closing the communicator, Muria soon received an address. Glancing at it, his gaze flickered, because the location for the task was precisely in his own city,
“Owl Bar!” Muria read out the location of his mission, his eyes reflecting a pensive look.
This recent pasti of hunting Different Species had already given him a feeling that sothing was amiss. By all accounts, there should not have been any Different Species in his city, as it was the capital of a federal province.
With the number of Star Armor Masters that the governnt had, they could easily wipe out all the Different Species in the entire city. But the governnt hadn’t done so; instead, they had established a covert departnt with relatively low overall combat prowess.
“Training troops?” Muria mumbled to himself, the only reason he could think of for the presence of Different Species in the city. Their sole raison d’être was to serve as whetstones for potential Star Armor Masters like himself.
This ti, receiving an assessnt task from the Douglas family made him realize how strong the federal governnt’s control over their territory was. Those Different Species who thought they were well-hidden in the human city were actually completely monitored by the federal governnt.
The length of ti they could survive in the city depended on when they were chosen as whetstones. In other words, the weaker the Different Species living among humans, the better. It was preferable they did not band together; although death was inevitable, they could live longer.
“Sky born species!” Muria’s thoughts began to extend. The federal governnt allowed Mutated Species to hide within the city, preying on ordinary humans, with the purpose of tempering Star Armor Masters with certain combat experience.
Such a bloody thod indicated that the federation needed experienced warriors who would dare to fight when critical monts arrived – against so threat.
“Mom, soone has asked
out to play; I’ll be back late, so you should sleep early.” Having received the location of his task, Muria set out imdiately, ready to sweep the mission spot and complete the assessnt task.
“Okay, be careful on your way,” Susanna said as she watched her son prepare to head out again. Although she knew what her son was up to every night, she had no intention of stopping him. As a mber of the Douglas clan, he was bound to step onto more dangerous battlefields. So why not start getting used to it now.
…
The dim atmosphere, the constantly flashing colorful lights, the deafening heavy tal music, the strong and choking scents of various perfus, mixed with the acrid sll of alcohol and all sorts of other strange odors… This was everything Muria was encountering right now.
Observing the n and won twisting their bodies wildly on the dance floor to the rhythm of music, his gaze was unwaveringly indifferent. He had no opinion on those people.
Everyone had their own way to relieve stress and unwind. His way was fishing, while this crowd preferred clubbing and hoping for so wonderful encounters by chance.
“Clear all the Different Species out of this bar!” Muria recalled his mission brief. Although it wasn’t explicitly stated not to harm ordinary humans, Muria felt he should still be careful and consider it an implicit requirent.
“Let’s see where the monsters hiding in the bar are,” Muria closed his eyes, beginning to sense all the life forces around him.
This was one of the essential abilities of a Martial Artist as well. Martial Artists could extraordinarily detect Different Species camouflaging themselves among humans because they could feel the life force every living being emanates.
The blood aura emitted by Different Species, as opposed to ordinary humans, is completely different. Even if they look the sa, Martial Artists can easily find them out, basically serving as human radars.
“Found one!” Muria opened his eyes and quickly locked his gaze onto a waitress carrying a tray, weaving through the crowd.
“Let’s start with you!” Muria, having decided on his target, walked over to the waitress and wrapped his arm around her waist with a shy smile on his face, “Miss, will you co and have so fun with ?”
“Hehe, little brother, I still have work to do now and have no ti to play with you,” the waitress wrapped in Muria’s arms said with a flirtatious smile, not minding Muria’s behavior at all.
“What work? I’ve got you covered for tonight, you don’t need to work, just keep
company,” Muria said, pulling out a wad of cash and stuffing it into the waitress’s chest.
“Hehe, what a generous young master you are. Since that’s the case, I’m all yours tonight! Whatever you want
to do, I’ll do it,” said the waitress, her smile even brighter upon seeing the cash Muria thrust upon her. Completely unaware that her identity had been exposed, she went along with it. After all, being Different Species hiding in the world of humans, they need to follow human rules; they also need to make a living.
“That’s best.” Muria, having paved his way with money and achieved the expected result, let go and walked toward a corner of the bar with the different species woman.
“Straight to the restroom, are you in such a hurry?” Seeing where Muria was pulling her, the waitress was slightly surprised, and then her smile beca even more seductive.
“This way!” The different species woman, thinking she understood Muria’s intentions, took the initiative to pull him into a stall. She had taken Muria for a rich young master who had co looking for a good ti.
“What’s next? I’ll do whatever you say,” the scantily clad ssenger said with a teasing smile, looking at Muria.
“Don’t move!” Muria kept a smile on his face and pressed his hand onto the waitress’s head.
“Hehe!” The waitress didn’t dodge, allowing Muria’s palm to rest on the top of her head. Then, a dark red liquid slowly trickled from her orifices, and her body collapsed to the ground, limp as if all her bones had been sucked out.
Looking at the different species he had killed with a slap at his feet, Muria showed no sign of being moved. He could feel the mixed blood aura on her, tainted with hints of a fishy odor; she had consud humans, and not just a few.
“It shouldn’t be discovered for a short while!” Muria turned and left, leaving the corpse of the different species in the restroom. However, as soon as he left the restroom, he keenly noticed several subtle gazes on him.
Following the gazes, Muria saw a few young n looking at him with smirks on their faces, chatting amongst themselves. Muria’s ears twitched, and he imdiately separated their conversation from the surrounding noise.
“How long did that kid spend in there? Not even three minutes? That was way too fast!”
“It takes
longer to pee!”
“What a waste, such a pretty girl. A real loss, a sha!”
…Hearing this conversation, the corner of Muria’s mouth twitched, and then he walked toward the group of young n. Monts later, three young n lay unconscious in a booth.
“It’s not that I’m petty and retaliating against you; it’s that you’ve noticed , and to maintain the secrecy of my mission I had to inconvenience you a bit,” Muria said to the group of young n in a coma with bruised necks, whispering softly to himself before continuing on with his mission.
Muria prided himself on being open-minded; naturally, he wouldn’t have attacked them over their comnts, it was all to avoid complications with the mission, and certainly not because they suggested he was inadequate in any way. Really, he wasn’t that kind of person.
“The number of Ghouls is quite sothing!” Muria continued to sense the aura distinct from normal humans around him. He soon found his target—a couple passionately kissing.
“Hey!” Muria tapped on the man’s shoulder.
“What do you want, kid?” The dimly lit environnt revealed faint red lights in the man’s eyes as he turned his head, his face full of irritation.
Thump!
Muria grabbed the man’s hair and smashed his head against the wall with a dull thud, and the woman next to him, seeing this, imdiately broke free from the man’s embrace and ran away.
