Capítulo 897: Chapter 303: So TV Series
“Flightplan” was scheduled for mid-month, when the sumr holiday season had basically ended, and those still drawing crowds were films that had been showing for a while. Under these circumstances, launching a new drama film would surely yield decent results. Moreover, Naomi and Elle both had highlights, though it’s a pity that Naomi just beca pregnant and is only just feeling like a mother, otherwise she wouldn’t be half a notch below the original Judi Foster.
But it doesn’t matter, you can’t force these things, and without a comparison, no one would think she acted poorly. As for Elle Fanning, rather average among child actresses, slightly below her sister Dakota, although the lack of space to shine is one reason, what happens in the future is left for the future.
And “Lucky Number Slevin” was set for the end of the month. As Gao Yuanyuan’s debut Hollywood film, it doesn’t have much appeal; her character is even weaker than that robot from “Battlestar Galactica.” In fact, in the eyes of most Arican audiences, she’s rely a pretty face to advance the plot, with most attention still on the veteran actors.
However, in mainland China, it’s a different scenario. This new millennium’s first mainland actress entering Hollywood with her debut film, just the headline could catch enough Chinese eyeballs. With Jen Yu from “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” played by Lin Chi-Ling, and with Edison Chen’s scandal not yet exposed, the enthusiasm for Hollywood among Chinese people and the desire to have an international superstar are increasingly fervent.
So, even if the film couldn’t be released simultaneously in mainland China, even if the promotional tactics were quite basic, as long as it was shown, there wouldn’t be no box office revenue. Anyway, there’s no content… allegedly offensive to Chinese or anything like that.
“Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban” only featured Liu Yufei for barely over ten minutes, yet its box office was significantly higher than the previous installnt. “Lucky Number Slevin” is another story. The original version’s lackluster performance was mainly due to distribution issues, but with this version’s late September release and so promotional effort, it would undoubtedly perform better and, combined with the mainland portion, grossing over a hundred million worldwide might be possible.
Moreover, Adrian had another arrangent for her, with another sci-fi movie being prepped with an investnt similar to “Lucky Number Slevin.” This was another film buried due to distribution problems, and while Gao Yuanyuan wasn’t the main star, she played a crucial role, making it perfect for paving her way forward, and afterwards…
Gao Yuanyuan was therefore very happy, and so was Li Zi, as they tead up for a big battle with Adrian. Without Shuanglin’s involvent, they took advantage of the abundant opportunities, alternatingly taking turns to exhaust Adrian. Although they couldn’t ultimately overpower Adrian and ended up limp as wet noodles, it left a lasting impression on him.
The reason Li Zi was equally happy and involved was because September was also the ti for new show premieres, and the drama series “Grey’s Anatomy” that Adrian promised had been officially aired on CBS.
The female lead was Jennifer Love Hewitt, once Sarah’s little sidekick. Although she no longer was, and although she was punished because she offended Sarah and ended up as her sidekick, Sarah had long since forgiven her and would even take care of her to so extent. Thus, when Love ca to Sarah first, seeking to compete for the role, Sarah imdiately agreed.
Originally, Adrian had planned to cast Catherine Heigl as the lead, but with Sarah’s recomndation in advance, followed by Love’s personal services, and Heigl hadn’t been in touch for a while and there were other good roles in the series, the decision was made. Naturally, the Asian role would be played by Li Zi, who, in her almost one year in the United States, had perford well in various aspects, from English practice to acting training, and to understanding the nuances of being an intern doctor, she worked incredibly hard and precisely, like a carp leaping before the dragon gate upon glimpsing a hint of success.
Then, she succeeded when “Grey’s Anatomy,” strategically sold to CBS, beca an instant hit, bringing attention to the interns played by the main cast, allowing Li Zi to step into the Arican public eye. Her fa among Aricans may not surpass her fa among Hong Kong people, but the two are incomparable, and it’s a good start, so she was very happy.
Adrian was also quite satisfied. In fact, the few Asian won around him, including Liu Sisi who hadn’t yet joined him, all pleased him very much. Shuanglin is a given, having stayed in Arican society and by his side for several years, getting nurous opportunities. Lin Chi-Ling, who doesn’t need to resort to cutesy or sensual tactics to stand out, has passable acting skills. Lin Xilei has made a notable na for herself in the agent circles through her hard work.
And then there’s Liu Yufei and Gao Yuanyuan; the forr is gentle and perfect for grooming, especially with Liu Li’s support, and since both mother and daughter are entirely dependent on him, they are naturally obedient, doing their best to et Adrian’s demands. Like Li Zi, Gao Yuanyuan realized that her opportunity was lying right before her, and within the year that Adrian provided, she made a great effort, lest anyone really think that failing to et the standards would have still gotten her into “Battlestar Galactica.”
Adrian likes won, but not mindless fools driven solely by lust, which is why he accepted Gao Yuanyuan. He prefers won willing to work hard and eager to showcase themselves. Just as working n are attractive, so are dedicated won. Compared to those who laze around, only knowing to dress up and spend money, these types seem a bit too superficial, which is why he sotis prefers won with charisma.
Liu Sisi was the sa, having spent three months in the United States she could communicate effortlessly in speech, and had even reached the standards required for acting. Therefore, “High School Musical” officially started filming at the end of September. Though her interaction with other actors was diocre, her performance in dancing was exceptional, widely praised by the choreographers, mastering any dance routine usually after just one or two attempts.
Thus, if there’s a commonality among the won who stayed around Adrian, it’s the most evident effort to enhance and shine themselves, except for Kayden Kross.
Kayden is the product of his bizarre tastes. After indirectly and directly altering so won’s futures, Adrian was vaguely considering picking one from the sea, and he happened to et Kayden, who was discerning at the ti and quite remarkably looking, so he took her under his wing and placed her on the shelf.
Unexpectedly, Kayden was not interested in the career Adrian arranged for her; she preferred leisure. In this current… the situation where Adrian was her patron, if no one cracked the whip, she would always find opportunities to slack off. Adrian wasn’t too pleased, knowing that even Keeley Hazell, who also enjoyed leisure, was actively striving— in the new movie under production, she had to impersonate a man to join the football team, necessitating the binding of her proud chest with fabric strips, which isn’t an easy task.
Of course, Kayden isn’t foolish; she’s good at reading the room and understands Adrian’s thoughts. She knows that pleasing him in bed isn’t enough. In fact, if Kayden seriously committed herself, she would do quite well, so although Adrian occasionally thinks he might have been better off letting her venture into the sea initially, he ultimately held back.
However, his patience is indeed limited. If Kayden continues to dawdle for a long ti, it’s not impossible for her to be taken down, perhaps she should realize this point.
Enough about that; let’s return to the television series. September remains a ti for new show premieres, and AC dia, naturally, did not just prepare “Grey’s Anatomy,” but also had the long-planned “Gossip Girl” airing on the newly founded, albeit weakest, fifth major TV network, WD.
From a strategic viewpoint, Warner and Disney forming a joint TV network was a brilliant move. With Adrian’s involvent, although they each had cable TV developnt, they were far behind in over-the-air television, especially the WB network, significantly weaker than in another tiline. But together, they could complent each other’s strengths and weaknesses, and both companies had a substantial stake in the family market of all ages, especially Disney. Their achievent in pushing Disney to this point is indeed comndable.
Moreover, Warner also has business in cable and broadband and HBO television. Although AC dia acquired AT&T Broadband before Comcast to beco the largest cable TV operator in the United States, Comcast remains the largest broadband operator in the United States. While Warner ranks second in both areas, it has a significant advantage combined, making the wireless broadband operation currently a three-pronged balance.
This stable strategy that can also offer mutual benefits, combined with HBO still being an outstanding brand, ans Adrian’s “snatching” of several excellent series for TNT indeed dealt a heavy blow to HBO. Although “Pacific Assault” has started pre-production, they inherently have more experience in television production, thus rolling out many outstanding series that even Adrian doesn’t rember, almost standing toe-to-toe with TNT.
Under such circumstances, uniting with Disney would surely have a 1 1>2 effect, and Eisner might also find a way to secure his position through this strategy.
Unfortunately, as good as the idea was, reality is always another matter. WD indeed beca the fifth TV network, and Warner and Disney finally had a public platform for promotion, but regrettably, WD’s signal barely covered the entire United States. At best, so areas no longer required paid viewing compared to the previous WB. Therefore, even though the new TV network was sowhat helpful to Warner and Disney, Eisner still officially announced his resignation in early September, holding on three months longer than in another tiline.
Therefore, Adrian sold “Gossip Girl” to WD. The new network posed little threat to the old one, and because the foundation of Warner and Disney’s cooperation from the beginning leaned towards youth-oriented programming, “Gossip Girl” was still quite suitable for them.
It was said a long ti ago that the ratings for this TV series were not high. The fact that it could be produced for so many seasons was mainly due to its unique marketing strategy, which garnered significant attention. Using various fashion and upper-class intrigue as selling points, it attracted many young viewers’ attention and quickly turned several main characters into popular idols.
Adrian’s plan was to tie Warner and Disney to his ship step-by-step, therefore, when benefits needed to be shared, he wouldn’t be stingy. “Gossip Girl” aired smoothly on WD, and as a new TV network, it was sure to have abundant promotions with support from AC dia, so it undoubtedly beca an instant hit.
Blake continued to play Serena, while Leighton remained Blair. When the novel was initially handed to them, Leighton and Blake had a dispute over who would play Serena. The two young won already had a rather tense relationship, and since Serena seed like the primary female lead, both wanted to win the role, even though Adrian stated that Blair and Serena were equally important.
Since they were so adamant, Adrian simply set the battleground in the bedroom: whoever could satisfy him more would get the role. After several fierce competitions, Blake won the role of Serena, despite Leighton offering herself to Adrian early on. It should not be forgotten that Blake had once surrendered her virginity in front of many people, lowering her limits much more than Leighton, so Blake dared to engage in so genuine public romance with Adrian in the crowded, occasionally dimly lit dance floor buzzing with restless energy. At the sa ti, Leighton always fell short, eventually resigning herself to play Blair.
However, this only intensified the competition between the two, so whenever they were in Adrian’s presence, their sole thought was to surpass the other. Not to ntion, as soon as “Gossip Girl” aired, they both showed up in front of Adrian wearing their high school uniforms from the show, passionately engaging with him in their roles as Serena and Blair, performing with remarkable dedication.
“This is exactly what I want to see,” Adrian was very pleased with their performance. The condition he set for the bedroom duel was precisely for this mont, and he might now start considering an adult version of “Gossip Girl.”
Of course, if he could manage the other three, it would be even better. Besides S and B, “Gossip Girl” also had a female lead role, Jenny, and two other significant female roles, Vanessa and Georgina, represented as J, V, and G. Adrian specifically chose these three roles as well.
Since the aim was to align with the original, J was cast as a 14-year-old girl, well… Jamie Lynn Spears, the famous little sister of Little Sweet Britney. Although Britney subtly recomnded her sister to Adrian previously in bed and received an ambiguous answer with no follow-up, the Spears couple, who were driving this matter from behind the scenes, didn’t let it go. Not only did they continue urging Britney to look after her sister, but they also persistently hinted at Adrian during so gatherings.
“Jamie isn’t much worse than her sister. You should give it a try,” Spears even made such blatantly suggestive remarks, just a step away from directly stating, “Na your price.”
Adrian never gave a clear answer, but he didn’t want to leave them hanging too painfully, so he allowed Jamie to receive so training in performing. After which, she auditioned and eventually got the role, serving as a sort of test for the Spears family. As for Britney’s reaction, there’s no need to worry, the little pet wouldn’t have any objections.
As for the roles of V and G, Adrian chose two girls around the sa age as Leighton and Blake. J was played by Teresa Palr from Australia. Due to Adrian’s influence, Universal Pictures roped in Hollywood’s Australian clique, so when actors from there ca over, they typically chose to work with Universal, hoping to beco the next Cate Blanchett or Russell Crowe. Teresa was one of them.
She participated in the audition for “Gossip Girl,” and since Adrian kept track of the casting proceedings, she managed to get the role of V even after being eliminated in the second round.
As for the role of G, it was given to the very young Amber Heard, yes, the one who would be famously bisexual a few years later. When Adrian saw her na, he was slightly surprised, but without hesitation, he handed her the role of G.
Amber was currently just doing bit parts in so TV shows. Although she had a role in the movie “Friday Night Lights,” she was still largely unknown, worse than Teresa, as she was eliminated in the first round. Had Adrian not been on site at the ti, she might have ended up in another crew.
Leaving certain things aside, from what he rembered, Amber had a sowhat reckless style, enjoying guns and Ford Mustangs, almost like a tough girl, maybe more suited to the role of J. But unfortunately, it had already been given to Jamie. Yet, a female role with a villainous flair should also suit her, though upon first glimpsing her from afar on set, she didn’t stand out much.
In any case, let’s see how it develops. If her performance is outstanding, Adrian wouldn’t mind having the writers expand G’s role.
To be honest, if not busy dealing with Leighton and Blake, he wouldn’t have let them off so easily, especially with Amber being reportedly quite bold. But there’s no rush; “Gossip Girl” is already airing and getting a fair response. He has plenty of ti to play the long ga, sotis savoring things slowly can be enjoyable, especially when Leighton and Blake can lend a hand.
However, before that, Adrian has another bold woman to try. The dramas aired in September aren’t just limited to these. In addition to series suitable for public broadcast, there are others with rather intense or bold thes airing on various cable channels, such as “Weeds,” co-produced by Universal Pictures and CBS’s Showti, yet broadcast on ABC’s cable channels.
